Thanks for clearing that up, I am not sure were I would be if it were not for you..........geographically speaking that is.

Rather a good idea, a stadium sponsored by an Arab airline built by a club with largely Jewish directors and a Muslim vice-captain*, in one of the most ethnically mixed areas of the country. Very Benetton.

Thank God for that. I'm one of the stupid ones who actually paid to watch the team at Wembley last night. TBH it was like watching a pub team against a prem team.

The Croats were pure class, they knew where to pass it, what to do with the ball, played as a team, fluid passing and they had some idea of how to use the ball and attack. Their manager also must have had a problem with his seat or something because he kept getting up and shouting a lot.

We were poor all night, no idea at what to do with the ball, just long ball hit and hope, Crouch can't hold up the ball to save his life, no one else supported our lone striker, SWP can't cross and his attacking isn't that great either.

Not seen the match on TV yet but I was 90 yards away, above the Croatian fans, and I didn't think it was a pen.

I've wasted £150 on tickets watching England, plus travel and food money.

Wrong tactics last night as we did in so many games throughout the group.

Glad he's gone but he should have resigned, although then he might have lost out on £2.5m if he did that. Even if it had stayed 2-2 he should have resigned as he just wasn't good enough

As expected, England drop down to 12th place in the seedings for the World Cup draw on Sunday......

Quote:

This means they are not in the top nine European countries in the draw when it is made in Durban on Sunday. They are now in the group of second seeds and could possibly face Italy, France or Germany in a potentially hazardous qualifying group.
Thanks Mr McClaren

Robin van Persie (born August 6, 1983 in Rotterdam, Netherlands) is a Dutch football (soccer)|footballer currently employed by English FA Premier League team Arsenal F.C. He is married to Bouchra van Persie. He is also a Islam|Muslim convert, the result (it is believed) of a childhood friendship with his school's Moroccan janitor.

I knew his wife was, but not him, although it's probably safe to assume he isn't exactly anti-Muslim, their son is called Shaqueel. A quick examination of the youth and reserves would probably find a couple more, given that the usual catchment are for Arsenal youth is Norf London and, er, West Africa. One of the oddities is that there are no Greeks or Turks around, given that they're quite good at football and the area's full of them. Maybe the Greeks are down at Upton Park, having heard that the Hammers fans enjoy blowing bubbles.

Wenger has a penchant for religious players - Kanu for instance. Presumably they're less likely to get drunk, drive someone else's Merc up a lamp-post while already disqualified, then give a false name. How is Pennant getting on? Still complaining about English players not getting a chance at Arsenal?

Scotland get horsed in the play off.

I recall the 606 comments after the 6-0 thumping. A burly Scotsman asked if those big Orange men had stopped doing nasty things, and if it was safe to come from under the sofa. It may well have been TBR :D

I don't think it's a tough group really. Norway may be difficult to break down, but they are unlikely to score themselves.
It's down to Scotland and Holland imo, and I don't think Scotland will win.

I see you forget the other leg of that tie when we beat you. ;)

Actually, after our recent displays i think we'll have you. The only trouble is that i dont actually think your lot will be our biggest problem, that will come in the form of Macedonia and Norway.

We would be expected to beat them we dont perform well against the smaller nations for some reason. (Georgia for example)

TBR, I know the dutch havent been playing proper footie for a while (sack the manager game is needed) but I think as soon as there is a decent manager again (bring back Louis van Gaal or Guus Hiddink) there will be fire again, say a team with Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben on the flanks together with say Ryan Babel and Dirk Kuyt in the attack.

I'm not saying everyone would be disrespectful, but you sometimes get a few idiots that spoil it and it makes everyone look bad, which is a great shame. Just watching the Liverpool match on Sultana:) what is that KEY thing all about, I can understand pass completion % but KEY 3 or KEY 4

It mean passes that lead to a key move live a shot on goal or an attacking move

Just heard on the local news, 3 Man U supporters have been stabbed (though not seriously) ahead of tonights game with Roma. So it looks like a tense night, yet again, in Rome. :disturbd:

Re: Football : Season 2007/2008

Just heard on Sky Sports that since Grant took over at Chelsea they've only lost one game, and that was his first one in charge.

So will their supporters now finally admit their success was down to Roman's billions and not Mourinho's abilities?

Could also be down to the fact its the same set of players who are playing with the attitudes instilled in them by Jose?

Why?

Russ 14-12-2007 23:04

Re: Football : Season 2007/2008

Grant is a strong enough character to want things done his way, as opposed to his predecessor's ways. Without Mourinho's influence it's unlikely the team will stick to any major methods brought in by him, especially as time goes on.

So what you're saying is that whatever Mourinho taught the chelsea players, it wont have stuck in them and anything they learnt under him will wear off because he's not there?

Russ 14-12-2007 23:31

Re: Football : Season 2007/2008

No, I'm saying the new manager will have his own ideas and methods which will be grafted in to the team. I can't see any manager of Grant's calibre chosing to stick to someone else's tactics.

Saaf_laandon_mo 14-12-2007 23:36

Re: Football : Season 2007/2008

The manner in which Chelsea have been playing hasn't changed since Mourinho was in charge. I can't see Grant doing anything different, and as for calibre, I didn't think he's had much success previously. Maybe he has inherited a good team and just continuing what Mourinho started?

Couldn't that be a valid argument?

Russ 14-12-2007 23:44

Re: Football : Season 2007/2008

It could be valid if it was complete. He didn't just inherit a good team, he inherited a good team which bought at very high cost in a short space of time.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, as long as it's acknowledge that their success owes more to the Russian's billions than a team manager.

Who have they played of any note since the United game?

Yep because they won a lot of trophies under Ranieri didn't they and IIRC thats when the biggest outlay happened, fact is if it were all down to cash Roman would manage them himself and not bother with a manager

A 16 game unbeaten run is impressive regardless.

That's a bit of a contradiction really (read it again) - all teams need a manager anyway.

Is it? Unless you are nit picking, I'd say anyone with an iota of sense could grasp the point I was making. Besides it wouldn't be the first time a chairman has thought he could do a better job, anyone remember Ron Noades flirtations with management at Palace and Brentford?

Russ 15-12-2007 10:14

Re: Football : Season 2007/2008

Comparing the abilities of players from Brentford and Palace to those of Chelsea really isn't going to your argument much good. The egos and expectations of £20m+ rated players dictate that a quality manager is essential.

There isn't an argument, Ranieri won nothing, Jose did, despite spending similar amounts, money can only help a manager, you can't buy trophies or success, otherwise Newcastle wouldn't have been potless for so long and Arsenal wouldn't have won things, considering they make a profit every year all but in the transfer market

The clear argument which you seem unable to grasp is the team Roman bought with Ranieri in charge were still bedding in.

Except they weren't, as the core of his team were already there, Terry, Lampard, Cuddachini, Gudjohnson, Desailly and Gallas etc in fact imo the only players who brought anything to the team were Joe Cole, Duff and Makelele, I am sure they don't want reminding of Crespo, Veron and Mutu etc

Russ 16-12-2007 12:16

Re: Football : Season 2007/2008

The core of the team might have been there, but they hadn't yet gelled in to the success that they became! Is it really that hard for you to see?
