phoned ntl on 0800 052 2000.

Held in queue for less than a minute.

Asked if they could send the 3Mb signal to upgrade my 1.5Mb service. They said "hold please"

Then came back 20 seconds later and said "Done!"

My modem rebooted itself as I was still on the phone, and i'm now on 3Mb :D

Very happy here :) Just upgraded from 300k to 1mb.

I guess they won't hammer down on the caps if I don't abuse it, because I genuinely do only game and download now and again, it's mostly surfing.

Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)

Well the update was supposed to have been sent to me at around 2ish this afto and still nothing. So I ring up tech support and get through to the indian call centre.

The bloke doesnt have a clue whats he talking about. Apparantly its because I need to delete the cookies and history. That will get my up to my requested 2mb speed. :erm: And he was adament on that too.

Oh and by the way, he also wondered why I wanted to be upgraded to 2mb when on his records I'm using a 55mb connection. No joke.

I asked to be transferred and he wouldnt saying there was no1 else available to take my call.

Fair enough, I still havent been upgraded but theres still plenty of time. I would at least like the decency to talk to someone who knows what I am and they are on about. I have never got so irate talking to CS. It was a joke.

Ok lads new question and glad most are on the new speed.

I was on 300K and I have a cable modem Iââ‚ ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢m happy with 1Mb just now but will I have problems with this modem if I jump to 2mb?

Will that nice upgrade thing on NTl check my modem again?

sav112,

If you have a stand alone modem (not a STB) then you'll have no problems with any of the currently available speeds. If you have an STB you need to call and ask for a samsung.

I wasn't being rude, I was simply saying that CS is there at any time we need them, for anything we need them for. If we want to see about the upgrades, let us do it without people bitching about it. Being impatient is a crime now?

Is it right to believe that given the info here: http://www.home.ntl.com/page/broadbandusage that the only tier with a hard cap is the 1MB service, and that the 2/3MB tier's will continue with a guideline?

Hi Phil,

Not every area will get the upgrades today. Try again tomorrow maybe? :)

Still nothing here despite me ringing CS six times and each time getting a different idiot with a different answer. With responses ranging from getting the phone hung up on me by a mad bat to 'you'll be upgraded next month' and the classic 'you'll be upgraded today', not forgetting my all time fave of 'I've sent it through, you'll get it in an hour'(twice). https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2005/10/6.gif
I've seen at least four other people on here from Belfast get their upgrade so why didn't mine upgrade? https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2005/09/21.gif

EDIT: I forgot about the Welsh guy who told me I'd need to wait for a special offer in my area to get upgraded....:disturbd:

Now, people in general. NTL will probably be upgrading everyone soon. I shouldn't think they will roll out the upgrade to everyone nationally as that could generate an incredible amount of calls as STBS and Cable Modems fail (according to various NTL employees I have talked to, some boxes do fail while being upgraded).

I know it's frustrating, but I do think (for me anyway) the result is worth the wait.

THB Phil, the internal announcement we had in ntl said the upgrades could take a couple of months all in all. I think (for sacm users at least) it's more likely to be a couple of days. You can ring CS if you like, but I doubt it'd get you very much further. If you can be patient for a day or so, I'm sure your upgrade will be along in no time :)

Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)

Question for anyone that may know: -

I'm in Leeds, and not sure if we've been upgraded yet (not too bothered since I go on holiday in 2 days anyway).

But, due to an NTL c0ck up when they disconnected me, I was reconnected as a "new customer" with a discount, so I'm getting 750k service at 19.99 for 12 months.

I'm assuming that the "automatic" upgrade whenever it happens will not affect my discount, but if I click the magic 2Mb button, will my bill increase to 24.99?

I find it amazing that normally all the moaners are saying they have to wait an eternity for someone at NTL to answer the phone but today nearly everyone is saying that it is answered immediately. Very strange this turnaround in response times, particularly as there are so many calling once, twice or more times to try to get a different answer to what they have already been given. Could a lot of call waiting times have been slightly exaggerated in the past? :)

I can't believe how many times the same questions are being asked today, sometimes several times within a page of posts. I think that NTL should cut back on all these free upgrades as the prospect of getting them appears to be removing brain cells from a lot of customers. :D

Personally I would expect it to stay at the price you have been given the service at for the period stated but you will get a clearer answer from CS. Can't lose anything by asking them to clarify what you will pay if you have been given a discount for 12 months on your contract.

Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)

I am delighted with my upgrade to 3mb, on a SACM in Manchester.

I am even more delighted to see the largely positive responses in this thread.

I am further delighted still to observe that this one of the best things the company has done for a long time, and better still they have got it by and large spot on.

We've even got people saying they got through to customer services quickly and got dealt with professionally.

Is this a parallel universe I've entered?

Be interesting to see what Neil thinks of it all! :D

It may be that NTL actually put some thought in and realised they would require extra people on the phones today, plus the upgrades don't take long to do if the people are in an area that is ready to have the speed increase put through.

Well it is a long thread and we have a lot of new members that are still learning to read the whole thread before jumping in ;) Not that a few old hands aren't doing it too lol :p:

Called NTL 30 minutes ago to enquire about the changes. Phone was answered within 5 seconds of exiting the menu. I wonder if NTL have put extra staff on today expecting a large volume of calls ? Excellent service anyway. The lovely Scottish lass told me my connection would be automatically upgraded at some point and I didn't have to do anything.

Think I'll use the manual process on the web though.

this is my first post so hi!

im on the 300k service and i reckon i do over 3gb and under 10gb a month dl / ul. Im thinkin of doing the upgrade to 1mb as the cap wont be in force till later in the year but worried when it does come in, it will screw me up. Maybe by then the price will go down etc... What do you guys think

BTW this thread took me all day to read through while at work ;)

Phoned NTL CS, they have changed me from 750k to 1Mb (max that Pace STB can take), til Thursday. Then I ring after new Samsung STB is installed and they'll switch me to the 2Mb service :)

Speed changed, do I need to reset STB ?

You can pay a little more each month for extra bandwidth if you keep going over, this is the thing I'm going to do when they send me a letter or ring me up.
