Great book, about a young rape and killing, the girl who gets killed sort of looks down from wherever and the book is written fron her perspective about how all the alive family deal with it, and the final justice coming to the killer.

Wierd topic, but so well written, it is actually a compulsive read!

Peter Jackson has made a movie adaptation of that... due out later this year.

I'm on a roll atm read Richard Montanari's 2 books The Rosary Girls and Play Dead. He does like his puzzles. In the middle of reading Michael Connelly's new book The Scarecrow about his other main character Jack McEvoy a newspaper reporter. Read The Brass Target a few months back that brought together 2 of his other characters Mickey Haller first introduced inThe Lincoln Lawyer and Harry Bosch an LAPD homicide detective.

It may be pulp fiction but I like it how they haven't picked up the Harry Bosch books for tv seems strange. Too 1970's probably

So what are you reading at the moment? And what's good/ bad/ worth recommending/ worth avoiding about it?

For me it's currently "The Truth" by Terry Pratchett.

A story from the Discworld, Pratchett takes another of his hilarious satirical side-swipes at the lunacies of this world (helped, no doubt, by his experiences of working as a journalist before he started writing fiction).

As usual his plots and characterisations are spot on, the writing is excellent, humorous without being forced, touching without being sentimental and his observations are sharp and witty without being laboured.

If you've ever read Discworld and enjoyed it, you'll love this one, if you haven't, it's a good place to start because you don't really need to have read the earlier stories to understand the background.

Definitely recommended!

If so I've read it twice, and seen the film.

I'm half way through "The Day after Roswell - Col. Philip J. Corso. (Ret.)"

Sorry, it was a mistype - it's Free Fall, not Freefall; it's one of Robert Crais' Elvis Cole series.

"The Fuller Memorandum", by Charles Stross. It's the third book in his excellent "Laundry" series.

Just ordered that from Amazon (using the CF click-thru, obviously)

Agreed, I hope Stephenie Meyer decides to continue with 'Midnight Sun' which is a retelling of Twilight from Edward's perspective.

I read the first 12 chapters which she released on her website after someone had leaked a version, and hope she decides to continue and finish the book.

Stuff (not the word on the book title) My Dad Says - Justin Halpern

And the rest of my holiday reading has arrived from Amazon (don't forget to use the CF click-thru), so I have put them in the spare bedroom with the other books I am taking away, so I am not tempted....

The Fuller Memorandum - Charles Stross
What The Dog Saw - Malcolm Gladwell
Plague Year - Jeff Carlson
Super Freakenomics - Steven D Levitt & Stephen J Dubner
The Mammoth Book of Apocalyptic SF - edited by Mike Ashley
Ice, Iron and Gold - S M Stirling
Veteran - Gavin Smith
Enduring Love - Ian McEwan

To go with
The Mammoth Book Of Alternate Histories - edited by Ian Watson & Ian Whates
Free Fall / Indigo Slam - Robert Crais (two books in one omnibus edition)
The Gone-Away World - Nick Harkaway
On The Oceans Of Eternity - S M Stirling

Those and a couple of magazines (Focus, Economist, New Scientist, et al) should keep me entertained/amused whilst I am away.:D

"Blood Oath - The President's Vampire" by Christopher Farnsworth.

Re: What are you reading?

Armed Police: The Police use of firearms since 1945

Maybe not the most riveting of reads but should be mandatory before anyone is allowed to comment on any Police firearms operations on websites. :D

Re: What are you reading?

Lustrum - Robert Harris

Sequel to Imperium

Never thought Roman politics could be so gripping!

Pompeii by the same author is less politics, more mystery/thriller...
