Do you still need to enable the beta version from the settings menu at the top right, maybe?

Have you successfully watched iPlayer UHD before?

edit: This might help.

The UHD versions appear to have been removed - only the HD versions remain.

That statement couldn't be any further from the truth!

I don't know how many TVs I've had since my first LCD in 2005 but my LG C8 OLED has the best sound I've heard on a TV (except that Sony OLED with speakers in the stand) I use a decent 5.1 setup with a 500W Monolith plus providing the bass but i'm still amazed on occasion with the sound this TV can produce, it's capable of kicking out a decent simulated 5.1 effect as well as a nice bit of bass, i don't think any flat panel I've owned has produced an acceptable level of bass.

More UHD programmes coming to Virgin Media's UHD channel. It looks like the schedules will also be beefed up with some Smithsonian programming.

Aren't most of those Dramas already on Netflix?

The Get Down and House Of Cards are, not sure about the others.

The funny thing about many "Netflix" dramas is they often eventually end up on other broadcast channels because they are made by outside production companies (e.g. Orange Is The New Black on Sony Crime Channel). I used to wait until their DVD release and rent them. Amazon shows never seem to come to DVD to my knowledge, I'm not including those that are just Amazon exclusives in the UK, just those they commission themselves.

Very true, I think Bloodline is on Netflix as well.

Surprised the beeb haven't had a few FA Cup matches on a 4K UHD trial so far

They seem to have stalled on UHD since the world cup

That's because I think they got most of the live trial results they needed for now from the World Cup and Wimbledon

So I guess at the moment they're working out how to implement the improvements identified before they do any more live 4k trials.

Well they are taking their time then!

Rubbish service really, bin off the licence fee - or split it between the companies that provide the service!

Or are they waiting to see if UHD really does take off before throwing more money at it?
I think the majority of people aren't that bothered

You may be correct, is it the next 3D fad?

Are these 'improvements' pushed by TV set manufacturers to sell more expensive tv's?

More expensive TV's mean more profit for the manufacturers as it won't be long before something else new and jazzy comes along for which they will charge a premium price for..

A large number of people do not have the money and/or the room and/or the inclination for TVs of 55 inches or even larger, without which I am told UHD makes no noticeable difference
