The second part is on BBC2 tonight so he's extended the padding further to avoid the same thing happening.

Yes that should stop it from missing those last few minutes but one question is how many minutes have you extended the padding as some channels can run 10 minutes late.

It's asking your permission to wipe a buffer for a planned recording. If you were not watching tv, then it would do that automatically.

I use zero padding, but for BBC shows, I often check my planned recordings and if there is a tuner free, I add 15 minutes on to the end.

I don't record much from BBC, so it's not an issue for me to do this.

You can also extend the recording, even when the recording has already started.

did it over-run? It should have added 4 mins padding automatically.

Thanks DF, the question that leads on from that is why, there was an overlap between two recording but at the time of the message only one tuner was recording?

Its just checking that you arent watching two channels:). Not as stupid as you might think as I have scrolled back on a channel that was being buffered.

Had an interesting one the other day. Recorded Cutting Edge off Channel 4 HD. The program recorded and showed the correct program details and channel in My Shows, however when I played it back it was an hour of Bio and not 4HD at all!!

I tried an experiment with VM app setting a tv programme record and I can confirm it adds no padding to the scheduled record show! In relation to the show three men in a boat as I had recorded it showed the programme started 2 1/2 minutes late and that's why you missed the end of the recording!

Had the same issue with blades of glory this week. Missed last few minutes.
Set recording via either the virgin app or the tvguide app. Not sure which one I used.

I don't think you can set extra padding with these apps:( I suppose this TiVo upcoming app will probably marginalise the above two!

You can remote record from the full website, the mobile website or the app if supported by your phones OS

Currently 15 apps on my Tivo

Too old DF to get excited mate ;) but looking forward to getting it now i have ordered it to see what it does.:)

I have a samsung V+, as my old S/A V+ bit the dust on the tuner front a few months ago,its not noisey and is going in the bedroom, with the TiVo on the main set.

TiVo does sound good just think i will take a while to get used to it by the sound of it,and seeing as its still quite new hopefully the best is yet to come.

If I had to be critical of TIVO that's one thing I hae the SD screens granted most are just settings menus but the sooner their all HD the better , good news on an official Android app.

Have to agree there , as someone who has used both I prefer the Premiere colours over the garish red of the VM TIVO.

Unfortunately the 'new' HD EPG the US TiVo has just got is the one the VM TiVo has had all along

So at the moment no new new HD screens

Maybe red could be the default colour, but the user could define what they want? Wouldn't take much 'development' surely ? The VM logo could stay in red if it really has to.

Right wasn't aware of that , the HD menus on VM TIVO are generally excellent and the graphics pop off the screen , my parents don't really do tech :D however they have picked it up pretty well on the whole. If the link below is to be believed it would appear the VM TIVO EPG and advanced features as forced a certain satellite company to have a rethink to STB software.

No I don't think it will. If its like the iPad app then we will need to wait for VM to modify the app and officially release it to the UK marketplace.

Although it's possible that the hack to get the US version of the iOS app working could also work for the Android app - if you can hold of it

Found it here: http://www.filecrop.com/51232645/index.html *** EDIT NOT THE OFFICIAL APP!!***

Have uploaded it to my PWP: http://www.dorsetshire.pwp.blueyonde...mote_1.521.apk *** EDIT NOT THE OFFICIAL APP!!***

Now installed to my phone. It didn't find the TIVO when searching but I manually put in my IP and the remote worked. Tried to do a search and my TIVO no longer responding to either the app or main remote so very much a case of test at your own risk. I'll report back later once I've rebooted, first impressions are that it isn't as good as TIVO Commander...

Well the remote part works, just don't try sending a search command while you're watching a recording!! Very little else seems to work, I'll be sticking to TIVO Commander at least until the official VM version comes out. I'll leave it on my PWP in case anyone wants to have a play with it.

You can put anything you like, I just put "Downstairs" and it worked fine. You can add multiple entries, so it looks like the name is just something for you so you can differentiate between multiple TIVOs.

Thanks for the app :) Installed on my Zoom tablet, I've only played with it for a few minutes but compared to the iPhone app its pretty poor :(

Hasn't picked up the channel list
Selecting ToDo for upcoming recordings, it seems to be manually selecting the options that you would from the menu to get to the reccording screen, unlike the iPhone app that goes directly

:(

They're all companies that gather your information and make a point of 'sharing' things. I still don't get why a glorified TV remote needs it.

You'll need the python script running (or equivalent if on windows) before it'll work.. FSVO 'work' as it's not really suited to the UK Tivos yet, as you can tell from the channel idents..

Feel free to give it a try, have not managed to test it on anything other than my laptop, so let me know how you get on.

Basically a picture of a Vm Tivo remote which you can click on the buttons to send to Tivo.

You can also type on the keyboard to send text to search boxes such as when searching all tv. Typing numbers sends the Number to the TiVo.

Software here http://www.andypwheeler.pwp.blueyond...emoteV0.01.zip

Let me know how you get on. Plenty of improvements can be made after reading up on what can be sent.

You will need to have your TiVo connected to your home network, and have Network Remote Control enabled on your Tivo.

Hi,

I have just release v0.04.
It can be found here:

www.andypwheeler.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/tivoremote

-v0.04

Fixed slow response when clicking buttons on virtual remote.
Automatically connects to last TiVo it was connected to.

- v0.03

Add shortcut keys
Add Tooltips
Save Last IP Address
Add VM Online TV Guide
Add TiVo Icons

- v0.02

Add Channel List

- v0.01

Initial Version

Thanks

Nice one Andy, much quicker now. Could not always rely on it before, but might just use it regularly now as my laptop is always near where I sit. Particularly handy for searches and if remote battery starts to run low.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

I have just release V0.05.

Main feature this adds is Reminders Functionality:

- Added reminders. Can now set up the application to change to a specified channel at a specified time and date (PC must running the application at time of reminder to change your TiVo).

- Made changes to the TvGuide link to try and address the blank screen bug.

Setting Reminders

You can now set the application to change the channel on your TiVo box at a specific time and date using the reminders
options.

This can be found under FILE>REMINDERS

Simple enter the date, time and select the channel and add this to the reminders with the Add button. You can
enter a comment for each reminder too, however this is optional.

Provided that the application is running on your PC at the time of the reminder, it will then change the channel
just like the V+ box did.

Latest version can be found on my website www.andypwheeler.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/tivoremote

Would appreciate if you could feed back whether the Tv Guide is now working correctly.

Thanks,
Andy

You have to question VM when Mr. Wheeler can program reminders for free yet they can't provide them at all.

It's not that they can't provide them at all, it's that they can't provide them yet.

Brilliant, the reminders function is great, it returns the missing functionality from the old V+ boxes that I miss until VM can add it natively

The new YouTube interface looks like a step in the right direction. Or they could just base it on the Xbox version which is a lot more remote control friendly apart from the way texts input via the on screen keyboard.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

My TiVo is now running and i would like to give my general thoughts on the box as i have one now.

Initially i thought the picture not to be as good as my V+ but it seems to have got a bit sharper,i think perhaps TiVo has as been suggested on another thread needs time to "bed in",certainly on outside broadcasts the TiVo picture appears dark until the subjects are in clear view certainly viewing the cricket and a tad wooly.

Like the you tube app works very well and you tube is something i use a lot.

The remote record is also a great feature i set a recording from a PC and it did the job, expess series links works well also no missed recordings so far! or ends cut off,i do as i thought i would miss the reminder feature on the box hope virgin will add this feature soon, also miss having the clock on the front but thats a minor point.

Overall i am quite impressed with the TiVo box and what it can do although the engineer who set it up gave me a demo of the thumbs up on "my family" a comedy that i find a very unfunny sitcom, and i forgot to delete it and found i got programmes recording that were similar until i deleted the thumbs up.LOL.:D

I hope sky sports red button arrives on TiVo soon, but i did keep my old samsung V+ in the bedroom so can watch red button content there, but would like it to launch on TiVo before the cricket season.:)

I wonder how much that would change if Tivo had reminders? Reminders are a :nono: for me, but I know some  people want them ;)

Not sure but i subscribe for the sport in part and the reason i sub to sky sports is to see it live! Not recorded and yes reminders would be very useful to me.

Those that say no no to reminders fine i have no problem with that, they simply would not have to use them.;)

maybe if/when VM integrate them there could be an option in the settings where the user says if they want reminders on or off

Surely you just don't set any reminders, no need to have an option?

Yes that sounds reasonable or just do not use them.

But an option would give people who do not like the idea a choice of switching on wonder how many nay sayers would actually use them though i reckon a few might.;)

That would be a waste of coding and testing time when it's much easier to not use them if you don't want them. If they work like they do on the V+ Box then it'd just be another option on the recording dialog so I'm sure you could manage to ignore its presence.
