I cannot stand Trump but he's absolutely right to refer to it as the "Chinese virus".

Well there's not a "the corona virus", as there's been more than one. If he'd referred to "Covid-19", would anybody have known what he was talking about? Nobody fusses over referring to "Spanish Flu".

Nobody fusses over the Spanish flu because there’s little point renaming something 100 years later. Trump is actively calling this something that it isn’t to dog whistle it his supporters, and while there is more than one coronavirus unless you are in a specific scientific community there’s a 100% chance you mean the one killing tens of thousands of people right now.

Most definitely as l do despair that many are just not getting the message or have just wilfully chosen to ignore it.

Not a care for those like my Sister in Law & her daughter who are Chinese, but have not set foot in China for a decade or more.

Words matter.

Coronavirus covers things like the common cold, yet Corona Beer sales dropped drastically.

Just because China has managed to control this, we shouldn't assume we will, totally different cultures. They respect authority, we don't.

Boris needs to ditch his libertarian principles and start insisting rather than asking. Lockdown time should have been a week ago, particularly in London.

At least the argument could go "I asked nicely before, but you all ignored it, so this what is going to happen". Would the British police enforce it the same way as those in France, or armed soldiers in Italy?

The British police lack the manpower. Italy and Spain have almost double the police numbers and lower populations.

We will have the army on the streets.

Not so much lack of manpower, as lack of willingness to take the necessary action.

Didn’t look like they had the manpower in the London 2011 riots - they simply had to stand back and permit civil disobedience and crime for a number of days.
