Errm, that wasn't my point. This site is excellent and IS the number one cable resource in the UK.

My point was about one or two of the sanctimonious comments in this thread.

This is to do with securing the DTV network and will have no impact on broadband speeds or the pricing structure.

As stated by Ben B all the channels will be unwatchable due a screen that cannot be removed until a subscription and legit box are in place.;)

Erm, the site *is* legit. It *is* sanctioned by Virgin Media (we would not be able to refer customer problems to them if it were not), it's just not owned by them.

It's owned by (I believe) Paul and Frank, and is run by Paul, Frank, Mick and the rest of the moderating/admin team.

It's also arguable that without this site (and particularly it's predecessor Nthellworld.com), community.virginmedia.com would not exist.

Which isn't true as it has been running for many years
AFAIK, NTHell was the original name of Cable Forum before it was changed.

Edit:
If you take a butchers over at http://www.nthellworld.co.uk/home.php you will see that is the same as Cable Forum apart from the colour scheme until you click on the topic.

yea as we know nthell sold out...this forum rose from the ashes of a site that put ntl and hell together..now its different..whats changed??is the tech support any different??

Virginmedia only lease the name and Richard Branson does not own the company and has no real input into the company unlike Rupert Mudoch with SKY.

I'm rather sick of boasters telling me they've got free (stolen IMO) TV. When is Belfast getting new cards so the freeloaders get kicked off the network?

I agree with you. Personally I have no strong feelings about the people who pirate their services although I have never done it myself. Any platform that doesn't secure it's services is going to get free-loaders taking advantage. It's the people who try and justify it that annoy me or get angry because VM is at last doing something about it.

As for them lowering prices or upping speeds well taking all the free-loaders off the system should certainly allow them more leeway to do that. The people paying little or nothing for their services certainly does not help the company to improve and expand.

The services were encrypted in a way that anyone trying to get passed the encryption had to alter or buy non-standard equipment. So in the eyes of the law VM did all they needed to do. So why blame VM for other peoples actions??

The blame essentially rests with the people who stole their services Kymmy. I'm just saying that any service provider that doesn't keep it's services secure will pick up some freeloaders. I'm not having a pop at VM though Kymmy, I don't know why they didn't bring in a new encryption system earlier but it was probably down to prioritising available funds.

KT15 (part of Surrey) got the messages last night for new cards being sent out. This rollout is sure taking it's time.
