For me, when I rang up to completely cancel TV and just keep phone and BB a couple of years ago, it was cheaper for 6 months to keep one of the two Tivos that I had with TV M (pretty much Freeview channels) and then for the same price after that.

I guess they saw an advantage of giving me Tivo with TV M at no extra cost. Probably to keep their TV subscriber stats up and hoping I would be tempted to upgrade the TV package at some time in the future.

With all these price rises it's no wonder people are turning to illegal ways of getting their TV channels! Many of my work colleagues think I'm mad for paying what I do for my TV. Don't get me I'm not advocating people go for these illegal ways, just saying it's not surprising.

I recorded the cricket Wednesday on MIX SD and it took up 9% of my 1TB Tivo. I would have expected a lot less than that but it was definitely the SD version. Lucky I am clearing down my recordings as previously I would have lost a lot. No idea why it used so much but I do know of some bugs with other programs using up far more space than they should do.

If Amazon go for Premiership rights in the UK, that will knock Sky off its perch! Football might become cheaper, too, despite the price tag for those rights going up.

I'm sorry but I'd have to massively disagree whilst I have no issues with BT Sports general coverage , picture quality etc I'm afraid some of its pundits are woeful.

I'd like to have BT Sport on my box in 4K as Sky Sports 4K has now spoilt me.

I'm speaking purely in my personal opinion others will disagree , in my opinion Sky's premier league coverage is far more polished and proffesionly presented it's got even better with the arrival of Gary Neville again.

Steve Mcmanaman , Paul Scholes , Michael Owen , Robbie Savage and Owen Hargreaves are a few I've watched since launch that in my opinion are particularly poor.

Yes Gary Neville l think most of us knew would be back once he found out the management game is not a bed of roses he maybe thought it was.

Of BT Sport l like Glenn Hoddle , James Richardson who l think should be used far more and one or two others and of Sky Sports Jamie Redknapp , Gary Neville and Guillem Balague and a couple of others as well.

Andy Gray is still a football presenter but not in the UK. He works for beIN Sport as does Richard Keys so you can see him in countries served by beIN including Australia. http://getbein.beinsports.com/au/discover/

I seem to remember Andy Gray being on BT sport once, last season I think? Not sure why just the once though unless as you say he's contracted elsewhere. I liked Ron Atkinson too and I believe he should be given another chance.

I actually think both Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves are pretty decent, both not afraid to speak out.

Fairly indifferent to Mcmanaman

Agree re Owen and Savage.

Sky are a fair way ahead BT (and anyone) on their PL coverage but the gap is closing. While BT are learning and getting better, Sky seem a bit stale and lacking new ideas (good ideas that is, case in point: Friday night football). The CL Goals program is excellent and their CL coverage is at least on a par if not better than Sky's CL coverage thanks to Rio and Lineker proving to be a good double act..... IMHO.

Also I think with a few more tweeks (and less Savage) Score is proving to be a pretty decent production.

He would do great on BT sport. I like how sky sports is currently. Carragher and Neville are excellent. Henry leaves a lot to be desired but if hes paired up with someone good then it works.

Bt sport have awful pundits. You know its bad when Ian Wright is actually decent. Michael Owen is terrible. Its good BT are sort of pushing him out by pairing him with another colour commentator. McManaman is bad too. He goes from Setanta to ESPN to BT sport. He must have something on these people to keep getting a job.

Hire gray and have him on commentary and BT would really improve things. Cant they hire MOTD pundits too? Shearer is very much improved. Shove him on champions league nights with lineker.

I think BT tested the viewers and press reaction with Andy Gray but I think he's quite happy at beIN Sport alongside Keys. Big Ron's 77 so I can't see BT signing him up even if his past gaffes are long forgotten.

They do have the rights to stream the games however clearly not exclusive rights , the key games for Sky are the earlier Sunday games I can't see them being to bothered about a game that's aired in the early hours.

Looks like there's going to be another boxing channel launching in the UK. The info in the link isn't 100% crystal clear and I've not been able to find much more info on it.

http://www.ringnews24.com/2016/09/27.../#.V-xE5dQrLs0

"Asif Vali has revealed great news for boxing fans after announcing his upcoming October 1st show at the Lancashire County Cricket Club in Manchester will be televised live on new free-to-air channel ‘It’s A-Bout Boxing’.

"Organised by Vali, in conjunction with promoter Dennis Hobson, the ‘Zak Vali Annual Evening of Professional Boxing’ is set to feature exciting Northwest talent including Bolton prospect Osman Aslam; Matthew Mainwaring and Adam Hague, who are both trained by Matthew Hatton, as well as heavyweight Con Sheehan who is guided by Tyson Fury’s trainer, Peter Fury.

Now, with just days away from the first bell, the show has been picked up by former promoter Marcus Anderson Hitchen’s new boxing PR channel ‘It’s A-Bout Boxing’.

“Asif’s show will be going out on our channel which can be viewed on Sky Channel 468 and Freeview Channel 90,” explained Anderson Hitchen. “So far we’ve done a show with Carl Greaves and have some lined up with MGM Promotions, but this will be our first event going out as a live recording and I’m really excited. The channel is really picking up and from mid-October we’re aiming to broadcast a pre-recorded and a live show every Friday and Saturday."

No mention of Virgin Media as of yet. Is the channel Frontrunner on Virgin? That appears to be the channel this new one is replacing. I can't get my head around the term "boxing PR channel". As clear as mud.

Pretty pointless selling line rentals as standard now I know older people still need them but for the vast majority we just use mobiles, social media or emails now can't remember when I last used the land line had it out for a year now and it was idle for a while before it was removed

Frontrunner did launch yesterday on Freeview HD Channel 91.

You will got Frontrunner if you can pick up BBC One HD on Freeview Channel 101.

Quite rightly so too because doesn't the speed depend on how close you are to the cabinet?

BT did sign an new deal for Bundesliga in June 2016.**

They also have Serie A rights until end of season 2017/2018.*

DFB-Pokal is also shown on BT Sport***.

***Sky own the rights to them in Germany with ARD.
**Sky own the rights to them in Germany with Eurosport.
*Sky own the rights on Sky Italy (They also own Serie B rights.).

Sky use the Sky Sports Brand in the UK and Ireland, Germany and Italy.

Yes but I`d be more impressed if they put this channel on Freeview like BT do,although I admit BT`s freeview channel is hardly ever showing any actual action.

They already have a channel on Freeview they could put a set Sport on if they wished it's called Pick TV. I very much doubt you'll ever see Sky Sports Mix on Freeview why would Sky want to enhance Freeview even further.

Yes I know what your`e saying and Sky being the greedy, money grasping animal they are wont ever put sky sports mix on freeview. They change the name of sky 3 to Pick so as not to help make freeview look more attractive, even though every Tom,Dick and Harry know it`s` a sky channel!

Because commercially it makes no sense whatsoever. All pay tv companies will push subscription increases as far as they can to maximise profits , in my opinion Sky are now finding this problematic just look at the amount of people they are having to offer half price premiums to just to temp them.

This is why in my opinion we'll see a shakeup in the make up of tv bundles , put simply in my opinion the Premier league rights are impacting on Sky whether they say so or not.

Even VM are now offering excellent deals to existing customers , I certainly got a great deal, I am now paying less than I did five years ago for the same package.

They could also use this as a showcase channel to encourage Freeview audiences to subscribe to Sky.

It's used to enhance the pay TV packages on both Sky and Virgin Media , I'm not sure putting Sport on Freeview every day would be beneficial in the way you suggest.

Why in a few months haven't Sky already shown enough big games? It's yet more proof people are getting fed up with the ever increasing costs of Pay TV.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

I have Sky Sports for the Championship and the cricket.
If you were 2 take your average mid table Championship game and the same for the Premier League for a neutral the Championship would be more exciting.
The Premier League has become pretty boring with the Championship having more goals and just end to end action.

I used to watch any Premier League game I could but take last night as an example Liverpool v Man Utd (2 powerhouses of the league of you believe the hype) completely dull 0-0.
Forest v Cardiff on Friday night tune in and I guarantee more entertaining.
