Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
Seems Virgin Media have give in updating the post code checker and the date of update in my Virgin media. A few people including myself are stuck with the your speed increase is now ready sign in to my Virgin media and when you do it just says will be ready by the end of August 2016. Funny thing is the original date used to be November/December 2015 I believe. How do they get things so wrong.

What makes this interesting isoif the 100Mb is throttled to say 70Mb then BT Infinity2 is potentially faster and potentially cheaper. Time for serious think. |
Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
What is going on with the upgrade?
First I was told it was June 2017, then it changed to December 2016, then back to Febuary 2017, then it changed to July 2016, then End of August 2016 but its now september 2016 and still no upgrade but it still says end of august 2016 |

Now the postcode checker says the upgrade is now ready but my Virgin media states by the end of September 2016. I think Virgin Media have actually gave up unless you bug them to sort these things. |
Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
I am on a Virgin Ambit 256 modem and using my own Belkin F5D9230-4 v5111 router, firmware 5.02.08, with 20Mbps down and 1Mbps up in the speedtest to my desktop PC which is a cabled connection (Ethernet), Ambit 256 says that the "Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 21483000".
Anyone know when I will receive 70 Mbps ? When I log into my Virgin account I get "Hold on tight. Your speed boost is on the way… Your speed upgrade will be ready to take your connection from up to 20Mbps to up to 70Mbps. It's all thanks to DOCSIS® - the magic in our cables. Look out for it between January 2017 and January 2017". The Find out more button to the right of this takes me to a PDF which is mentioning about call charges! Well Virgin had better get a move on to upgrade me since it is now Jan 24th 2017... Will I be likely to receive a SuperHub 2 (or 1 or 3) ? Or will they just leave me with my ancient Ambit 256 (that isn't even wireless LOL) ? My Area Code is 01, I am in St.Helens NW England. Regards, Alistair G. |

Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
I am really annoyed with myself. I have just wasted 15 minutes typing out a massive long post telling your to ring customer services because I thought that you had an ambit250 and I explained the limitations of it.
I'll keep it short and sweet now. The ambit256 is a 4 channel modem and can handle 70mbits no problem; I had mine on 120mbits for ages before I upgraded to 200mbits and needed a shub. Whilst it is more than capable of handling the speed, I am not sure it will actually work. A config file has to be written for it and as this particular model is very old and the 70mbits tier is fairly new, I am not sure they would have written a config file for it. Tbh I would ring customer services tomorrow and pretend you are confused and concerned that it isn't going to work. They'll defo post a new shub out to you and the chances are that they'll also upgrade you over the phone and the speed increase will take effect when you activate and register the shub. You have done well keeping the ambit256 for this long, it is a cracking mode. I haven't got time to look up your router now so I don't know how old it is. I would definitely check the wan to lan throughput and make sure it can handle the speed increase. Another word of warning. Once you get the shub, hook it up, register it and let the latest firmware come down, the very first thing your need to do is go into the gui and put it in modem mode so you can continue to use your current router as you are now. As a further bit of info for you, the maximum downstream rate has nothing to do with what the modem can physically handle, it is the speed VM provision you for which in your case is 20mbits. When you get a shub and the speed increase you will see it change to something like 77000000 for 70mbits even though the shub is good for 400mbits. Quote:

Your thinking of the vmng300. So double annoyance You need to call up to get a new hub sent out and then you can ask for the speed boost |
Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
Is it still possible to get on the 152mb config as a new customer?
IE is there a chance CS would put me on that profile? Or does it not exist anymore other than auto upgrades... |

I still don't understand how they haven't finished the speed upgrades yet.
