Very best wishes and Happy landings Cobby.

Thanks all, I'll still be on here finding out what's going on in the Motherland :D

No departure date as yet. I've applied to apply for the Green Card & according to the website that application will be reviewed early/mid May. Then I have to apply with a load of other information, then the medical, then the interview at the US embassy. Will be at least a couple of months, then I have a month's notice at work, so July at the earliest.

Just completed another Parkrun 5k, results won't be in until this evening but although I came in 38th (was 29th last week but I don't worry about that too much as we don't start off all alongside each other) it appears I may have improved on my 24.03 PB by around 20 seconds - it's a shame my phone's GPS app isn't accurate enough to be sure however the guy who came in a couple of metres ahead of me said his stopwatch read 23.28 for him so I'm keeping my fingers crossed...:)

---------- Post added at 13:17 ---------- Previous post was at 13:08 ----------

edit: times just came in, smashed my PB by 30 seconds and did it in 23.32! Landed :hyper:

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

Cheers guys - no guarantee I'll be in it though. The way it works is the registrations opened at midnight and they close once 125,000 people apply.

Then around October time all those applying get a magazine through the post telling them whether they are successful or not. Those who are get information, updates etc but the rest get a list of charities that are allocated places so you can apply to them to get sponsorship for the places and its usually the ones who raise the most get their places.

If you can't raise enough or for whatever reason don't wish to go down that route then officially-affiliated running clubs get a batch of entries, relating to how many registered members it has (my club has around 120 people so it's estimated we'll be offered about 10 places) and normally the fairest way for these clubs to do it is get the names of all the interested members, draw them out of the hat and award the places like that.

It costs £30 to apply for the London Marathon (paid today) and those that are unsuccessful get the option of having their fee donated to one of the VLM's nominated charities in exchange for a limited edition London Marathon shower-proof running jackets.

If I somehow manage to get a place I don't care what time I make it in - I reckon I'd be looking at around the 5 to 6 hour mark - the fact is I'll have done it, even if I come crawling in last...

With a 23 minute 5k time you'd be looking at 4 hours or so. :)

I've applied to try and erase the bad memories from my 2011 effort. If I'm lucky enough to get in this time I'll know not to do a marathon a few weeks before as a training run and totally knackering my knees.

I always wanted to take my daughter to Disney and like my dad said about me many years ago, if ever I could afford it then I would. So when he passed, his legacy meant I could afford to take her and we're going next month. I arranged everything myself. The tickets, accommodation, flights, itinerary, her days off school - all sorted. And she was understandably very excited about it. Then about a month ago the somewhere subtle matter of my not having a passport cropped up, which could have dumped on everything as it would be my first adult one which can take longer. Cue scenes of my rushing about, panicking without letting too many people (especially my daughter!) knowing. Had the interview on friday and the guy there said everything was ok and was satisfied I was who I claimed to be but it wasn't his decision. I was quietly confident but the traditional Russ Curse dictates that last-minute hitches are mandatory. However I just had a knock on the door from a courier delivery guy and.....it arrived. Happy Russ!

Trying to get information from Eurostar's Indian "thank you please" callcentre was impossible. Basically I wanted to get on the train at Swansea and get off at Disney as simply and easily as possible however they gave me so many 'options' that it was impossible to work out which was going to work best for us and they could/would not give me a price until 84 days before departure date. I wanted all this booked back in february so that wasn't any help. So I looked online at some cheap flights and found a great deal which was only £25 per person more and about 3 hours' less travel so we went for that. Parking at Cardiff airport will be about £20 so it worked out better that way.

We just came back from there about 3 weeks ago - the kids love it.... but be prepared to be ripped off.

Not sure where you are staying - but we stayed in one of the hotels in the village (Sequoia lodge) - my advice would be to not eat in the hotels - there were expensive and lousy food - and go to the places in the village that aren't Disney - Planet Hollywood for example - it's just as expensive, but the food quality is better.

If you haven't done it - you should try and book dinner with the Disney Characters - it's in 'Cafe Mickey' - again, it's expensive, and the food is awful - but my kids loved it.

Cheers for that - we've saved a packet by staying with friends who live about 10 minutes from the resort. They'll be doing 'proper' meals for us (breakfast, dinner etc) so I'll be looking for something for the day time.

How's that new car going BTW? It's one of the new super efficient petrol engines isn't it? I'd be interested to know what you think of it as for low mileage drives like myself, modern diesels probably aren't the best option anymore.

No.

Long day, went for a meal which involved a bottle of Shiraz, which necessitated relocating to local hostelry for further strategic/tactical discussion requiring five pints of Smithwicks Ale and two large 12 year old Bushmills.

Time for bed, early start tomorrow/today...:D

I always end buying something there: This time some tubular 30W lamps for the kitchen at £1.39 a pop. Beers in the "Chain locker" on the harbour front. Nice day all round.:)

Falmouth, long time since we went there, but we love it. You must be very hardy Heero wearing shorts. as today was quite cold and blustery. You can't beat a good pasty, but as for Trago Mills I find it a bit claustrophobic unless they have changed the layout, which I doubt. Glad you all enjoyed yourselves. :)

When I was a kid my father always said if ever he could afford it he would take me to DisneyWorld so when I was 14 he and my mother won the football pools and we went 6 months later.

I always said the same thing about my daughter and thanks to his legacy I'm taking her today for a few days.

Thanks Dad :)

Ah Russ, I didn't realise the history behind this trip. I am 100% sure your Dad will be with you both. Have a brilliant time and try not to embarrass your daughter up by screaming like a girlie on any of the big rides. :D

Oh and pictures will be appreciated. :)
