Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)

i just got off the phone with ntl after trying to get my ambit 100 modem upgraded.

They said that they know my modem cant handle the speed and everyone who has it will be getting a call from ntl this month about sending an engineer out and replacing the modem.

Hope it was not a foboff.

Re: NTL 10MB, Leicester

[quote=Chrysalis]Something is fudged for sure, I am reading posts of people getting full 10mbit all day long, personally my speeds are completely to pot during the evening but not to everywhere. During peak time I get below speed everywhere. After peak time I can get 10mbit to some locations. However this morning at 1am my ubr was very saturated I had 100+ms latency to it and there was nothing on the ntl status page about it, but to me seems balancing work is still going on. I wish they would upgrade rather then keep shuffling heavy users about because if it is like this now with just the top tier upgraded what will it be like when everyone is upgraded.

The thing is the speed is quoted at up to 10mb, speed test site are also only a rough indication of speeds too. One more thing altough people will have the ability to get 10mb, there are multiple factors that will effect us reaching those speeds

You know granted the bulk of customers will only use their connection at peak time and with only a small proportion upgraded, Peak time speeds in my area are no better then the old 3mbit, so in that regard it is more of a promotional thing then anything else, the real advantages are in the early morning and the increased cap, I am just worried when all of the customer base is upgraded it is going to be saturated 24 hours.

Looks to me looking through the posts as speeds are also going to be affected by which firm originally owned & cabled each franchise area in the begining. We seem to be better off than most areas here where Nynex were the original owners. Just done a speed test now at adsl guide site which is very busy & still hit 802kb/s + ( hit over 1200kb/s before midday)

Looks like not having 10mb doesn't really matter here, speeds are awful to both my servers and most of the net, sub 1 mb

Great job NTL :(

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)

got a flyer through the post today saying as a premium customer I can soon get 10mb oh and a reduction to £34.99 a month.

However it goes on to say:-

"10Mb service subject to modem capabilty and assumes components work at optimal speed and capacity"

Just got upgrade today and so far my speeds have been worse than they were on 3mb using SB4100.

Got my 1st bill since 10Mb upgrade today and the bill lists.

10Mb BROADBAND (75GB) £37.99

Looks like thats about as official as you can get for a 75Gb cap.

WHo wants to be the 1st to go over it and see what happens?

Has anyone been upgraded for free to 10Mb from the 1Mb or 2Mb tiers?

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)

Ive had the upgrade nearly a month now on the trial and was getting great speeds of like 1200kb/s....but now I think that everybody else has been upgraded and I am getting around 400kb/s max :(. I think I might just drop to the lowest speed now since I am getting 6Mbit - 7 Mbit less than what I am paying for....On average its going like 300k (The speeds used to be better on 3Mbit)

For all those who have actually been patient enough like me not having to ring NTL to nag them to add me on to the trial speed, I would advice you to do a reboot of your modem. At the moment I am getting around 9.5mb.

None of this having to waste NTL customers time and NTLs time because of inpatient people ;).

Thanks NTL

Unless you go to the web page and change your package, I dont think you will have 10mbit anytime soon. The price atm for 10mbit (was 3mbit) is still £37.99 - once all the 3Mbit (old & new) are done then I am sure they will move onto the 2mbit customers and its 8mbit I think not 10mbit (for the old 2mbit customers). Expected date So I read is like End of 2006 - so you might be waiting a while :)
