They used to be everywhere 24/7 if you know what I mean.
I lived in Willesden when I was young/teen. A police car, a noddy bike, a panda car, a foot patrol - all regularly seen in the residential streets.

But did that stop any crime?

In fairness as the population increases the number of police has not proportionally gone up, this would apply especially in the bigger cities..

Some northern cities like Liverpool have declined significantly in population size. It's on its way back up though.

On that, we are in total agreement.

But will she be held to account?

The police stopped being a “crime prevention” or “deterrence” a long, long time ago.

They are, in the main, just another NGO, accountable to themselves only.

No longer public servants, or to serve the public.

Perhaps because being caught has little consequence now.

Not in a million years. I have never liked or trusted Jess Phillips. I acknowledge the need for equality, no problems there but her eagerness for push-back against who she considers “privileged” is extremely destructive towards ordinary decent people who have the misfortune of falling in to the categories she enjoys pushing back against.

Why would he be relieved?

I don't think so, they're quite capable of doing that themselves. But he may have found a way to return people to France, helping deter human traffickers and migrants.
Quote:

The British and French governments are in talks about a migrant returns agreement that would involve one person being deported from the UK in exchange for France sending another individual the other way, amid hopes the arrangement could be expanded into a broader European initiative.

British and French officials are in early discussions about a pilot scheme under which a small number of irregular migrants who come across the English Channel to the UK would be sent back to France.

British officials said the UK would look to accept from France a limited number of migrants who have a right to be in Britain, notably those with a legitimate case for family reunification.

France is willing to test such a scheme, despite its long-standing preference for an EU-wide arrangement, because it believes a returns agreement would deter human traffickers and migrants.

It’s a shame that France provides life jackets for these illegal immigrants to Britain. What the hell are we paying the French for?

Yeah far better they die, something else for you to cry about, once they're safely ashore the French ask for the life jackets back, presumably so they can give them to more immigrants
