Going by this guy's experiences you may be better off with Plusnet.

Virgin Media are not a budget supplier. If what you care about is paying as little as possible and avoiding any price increases they're probably not the optimal choice.

Yeah, if it was cheaper to run a DOCSIS network than a copper telephone line network, we'd have a lot more of it.

Stands to reason that prices will be a bit higher. I actually think Virgin is pretty competitive overall for what they're offering.

I was on 152Mb and typically got 110Mb/120Mb. Now I'm upgraded to 200Mb and typically get 150Mb/160Mb.

Any advice on what I would likely get if I downgraded to 100Mb...

Best

:)

The difference in speed will depend on a number of factors.

The speed you get by plugging your computer directly into your modem by ethernet cable will be faster than the speed received wirelessly from a router.

I had problems with my speeds and despite having an I5 laptop and an I7 laptop being given the same speed at the modem the I5 laptop was significantly slower than the I7.

Unfortunately, having your speed upgraded also means having your hardware upgraded, especially the processor and the network/wireless unit if you want to benefit from the increase. Hope that helps.

My upgrade from 152 to 200 says it's ready on the postcode checker and when you sign in it says will be ready by the end of August 2016. It's September now.

Yes but as far as I'm aware the upgrades aren't automatic, you have to request it.

Will just have to wait then or phone them up, but remember it wont put you into a new contract.

You should be renegotiating your contract due to the price increase anyway

No as I think it's wrong myself. I pay the asking price and if it's to much then I don't get it. Far to many 'offers' and ridiculous prices these days. Every other person pays something different to what they should be paying, there just seems no pricing structure these days because everyone is on an offer. I will be phoning up though to reduce my bill as the new VIP package is cheaper than the VIP package I'm on now and comes with two TiVo's. Just waiting for the announcement of the new TiVo to see if I want it when I change to the new VIP.
