Sky 3D is being wound down ready for eventual closure.

Didn't know that Sky owned At The Races

They own 40% of it.

That's a shame. If they had opened it up to more viewers (via VM) it might have stood a chance.

I guess they won't be broadcasting the football in 3D anymore then too?

3D is a niche product and always will be.

With most newer TVs being 3D ready, they could have opened it up to a lot more viewers.

VM have improved their HD lineup massively there's not really too many must have ones left now , people seem to be solely concentrating on linear TV channels when in fact its On Demand/Catchup they need to look at in my opinion , this was something they always promoted to customers however of late the competition seem to offer more catch up content.

Netflix or Amazon would be great bundled in with a VM TV package, that would be amazing if VM could pull that off.

But unlike linear TV channels, Netflix do not always get the most recent tv series straight away or the most recent movies, which unfortunately is one down side to it. What Netflix does have though, is a lot of HD content at no extra cost and is great value for money.

That is the vibe i'm getting from the guys on here, Vince.
Rich is pretty much spot on and he thinks it will happen.

It's a shame because 2years ago, Sky thought 3D was booming

The part time service will continue to offer the limited 3D football coverage for the time being.

I too am surprised that no attempt to increase the viability of Sky 3D was made by putting it on VM too, especially as VM, to my knowledge, are the only company to have recently made any form of commitment to 3D (albeit via VOD).

I can only assume that it's sky being their usual spiteful selves ie it didn't work for us, so we won't help it work for you.

Full HD 3D Blu-ray is brilliant if the films have been made for 3D, unfortunately most people will never experience it because they buy cheaper passive 3D TVs which aren't capable of the higher resolution per eye.

The problem really is with the glasses. Holographic 3D I think would work, but we are some way off that yet.

The situation is dynamic, CJ. As Netflix and Amazon make more and more original series like Orange is the New Black and House of Cards, things will start to look very different. We are mistaken to think that things will remain as they are. These are actually exciting times.

Here is some new from Netflix in regards to some up and coming content.

“In the coming weeks, we will premiere the all new 4th and final season of The Killing and a new adult animated comedy BoJack Horseman. Also in August, we will release Mission Blue from the Oscar winning director of The Cove, Fisher Stevens.
“Reflecting the increasingly global nature of the Netflix service, we now have original series in production around the world, involving some of the best storytellers working in television and film today. Marco Polo, a historical adventure from Executive Producer Harvey Weinstein, is shooting in Kazakhstan and Malaysia. In New York there is Marvel’s Daredevil, the first of our original series from Marvel Television, as well as the already eagerly anticipated third season of Orange is the New Black; while in Baltimore, production is underway on the third season of House of Cards. In the Florida Keys, the creators of Damages (Glenn Kessler, Daniel Zelman, and Todd Kessler) are shooting a dark family thriller with an ensemble cast led by Kyle Chandler, Sissy Spacek, Sam Shepard, Linda Cardellini, Ben Mendelsohn, and Norbert Leo Butz.
“Sense8, a mind-bending series from the Wachowskis (The Matrix trilogy, Cloud Atlas) and J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5), began production in San Francisco last month, is now in Chicago, and will shoot in many international locations this year. In August, production begins in Los Angeles on Grace and Frankie, a comedy led by Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston; and in Colombia, Brazilian director José Padilha (Elite Squad, Robocop) will begin filming Narcos with an all-star international cast led by Wagner Moura.
“During the quarter, we announced our first ever talk show, hosted by Chelsea Handler, the popular comedian and best-selling author.”

Netflix just keep on growing and branching out. 50 million subscribers world wide. I wonder if they will ever consider sport?

In a way mate they already show sport as Netflix USA shows UFC and WWE programming, i wouldn't be surprised to see other sporting programmes coming to them soon.

Regarding all those black and white TV licences, I'm curious to know what feed they are getting?
I would assume they all have analogue tuners and probably not a scart socket in sight
