Rumour: New channel testing on Virgin Media.

Is Virgin Media testing Notts TV, Sky1 +1, MTV Classic or Clubland TV?

It would have been amusing to watch Notts TV for about 20 minutes...

Media Boy, A very good question for you. Notts Tv, STV Glasgow and all the other tv channels that are coming to VM. Will these be available for London viewers, and if not why not.

My wife is Scottish and would love to watch some Scottish news.

It's likely, as with the BBC & ITV english local regions, these will be line fed to the local headends, & not on VM's core network.

Not sure if this is available to VM from July

MUTV goes HD

Manchester United's new beginning will coincide with a new era for MUTV this summer as it becomes the first club channel in the UK to broadcast in HD.

This exciting upgrade, effective from July, means fans will be able to watch the Reds' live pre-season games in stunning high definition for the very first time, as new manager Louis van Gaal takes the team to the United States on Tour 2014, presented by Aon.

Doesn't VM broadcast to specific areas such as BBC ONE West Midlands which has Midlands Today?

Aye yeah proabably i just always thought VM lump regional versions at the back of the epg so everyone gets the different versions. i suppose theyve been told not to do it with regional tv tho

Yes, they have to restrict local TV as the rights are not UK-wide. London Live for example shows a host of TV reruns from mainstream networks that it could not show nationally (eg The Fast Show, Black Books, Coupling, Misfits, London's Burning).

Andrew, I can't help but get a feeling of deja vu here. It reminds me of the bright new world of local FM radio unleashed in the 80s. Lots of bold, new ventures that pretty soon found they couldn't make it pay and so were either hoovered up by the big media players or gave the authorities an ultimatum that either they were allowed to merge with a neighbouring channel or they would close. The Authorities reluctantly agreed, and then they were hoovered up by the big media players anyway.

And in those days there was a lot of interest in those channels because there was limited choice, that isn't the case these days. I fear they are the wet dream of politicians who wish to re-engage us with politics and see local issues as the way to do so. However I also fear that repeats of 'The Fast Show' or similar will swamp the viewing figures for 'Dog Mess Hunters' (I'm being satirical, but trying to make a serious point) leading to 'Dog Mess Hunters' being cancelled.

Great news for content owners though. When G.O.L.D. has repeated something to death and back, there's always local TV, they'll show it. :D

Probably a lot more than when Champions League games have been on for the last 18 Years... champions league football can only be broadcast live in the UK currently by Sky and ITV. When the champions league is on don't bet against UTD plating highly lucrative friendlies in places such as Dubai and Qatar against AC Milan and other High profile absentees, these will be on MUTV HD.

Actually Local TV distribution is done centrally. The video on this page explains how and why: http://comux.co.uk/about-us/

The channels are fed by landline from Comux to VM, and then carried on the VM core network. The local headends pick up only the channels they need in their region.

With the odd exception, VM abandoned all local channel insertion when NGTV was implemented.
