Indeed ... as it is also common practice to call the process of solving computing problems 'debugging' ... even though it has been many years since computers had the sort of enormous valves that used to get clogged up with insects to the point where they would overheat and go pop, requiring both a new valve and a sweep with a brush to remove the bugs from the works.

:D ;)

<more aside>

Whilst the origin of the term 'debugging' is contested, it almost certainly pre-dates thermionic valves and has far wider historical usage that just in the computer hardware or software industries.

I would have thought that it had a naval context with debugging food before consumption??

Anyway getting back on topic... Shall we have a contest to see how many boxes we can see sat on top of wheelie bins when finally the old encryptionis turned off :)

My guess would be that the switch-off hasn't happened yet, but word has got round that it's coming, and people are trying to offload their dodgy boxes while they can still show them as working.

I think that the buyers deserve what they get and I have not one jot of sympathy for them whatsoever.https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2012/04/8.gif

Please, if we are to reform these ne'er-do-wells we must start by encouraging them to dispose of their defunct equipment in an appropriate way at a recycling centre.

Reduce, reuse, recycle!

Just arrived was really quick swapping it out like 2 mins, I take it the upto 30 mins part is maybe for really old boxes only.

It it just to stop you calling in within that time so as to give the card time to initiate, or by time you got through it could be all up and running.;)

We would not find as it would be a nice easy quick call but you could have been sitting there with a phone to your ear for no real reason.;)

Not all of Manchester has had the cards yet, including my area, unless you have a fault and a tech comes round

Once the whole area has been done they will switch over and he will get a pretty "Please call this number if you want to continue viewing" notice right in the middle of his screen preventing any viewing which cannot be removed.

Somebody will.

I can remember a quite a few years back when there was only Sky, a guy were my mum and dad worked built his own sky box and dish, and he got a better picture that people who had a genuine sky box.

He built the dish out of a metal dusbin lid and fixed that to his wall, at that time our council was very anal about satellite dishes on houses, and didn't like them going up, so told him to remove his "dish", but he responded it's a dustbin lid, not a dish and they never came back to get him to remove it.
