Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer

There are other wireless networks in the area and I recently changed channels to escape interference - this worked fine and I was consistently getting 3.9Mb in the 'old' 4Mb days. Yes I do have cordless phones (just changed these as well) so I will check. I am not far from the router, the room above, but obviously not in line of sight but no change there. There is another PC on the network but it was not connected when I did the speed tests. I have rechecked my settings and the router is set to G only. However, when looking at the NICs they offer me only 2 choices for Adhoc Wireless mode - B only or B/G mix. Both cards are Linksys PCI and one is only a few months old, they are set to B/G mix. Is there a possibility that the implied presence of a B device could slug the speed even if no such device is actually on the network? Thanks again. |
Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer
The new STM is not Fully UK wide yet. it took 45mins to download 800MB but when IT did.
https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2008/06/21.png Ive lost my 4Mb line and are stuck on 1Mb/s for 5 hours now, Sorry broadbandbug you are wrong again. its still the old STM for me and that means the day time STM will not be in effect. altering the Download manager back to the old settings. Some areas are not on this new STM. This is going to add to the confusion even more now. this might explain why I haven't got that downloading letter yet as im not in the New STM areas. |

Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer
ANDOVER appears to have been upgraded, I've checked and I have the new modem configs.
Speed test results using various testers seem to be very poor and pretty random ranging from 2.5Mb/s to 6Mb/s, although a sample 60MB multi-thread download from VM newsgroups resulted in approx 1.1-1.2MB/s so proves the old NTL 120 can still hack it!!! Hope the download settles down, I've been used to usually getting rock-solid 480KB/s, when on 4Mb, from good sources, although Newsgroups download have not been reliable since I had to change from NTL to VM newsgroup servers a couple of months ago. Wed, 25 Jun 2008 14:17:18 UTC Test 1: 1024K took 1643 ms = 623.3 KB/sec, approx 5136 Kbps, 5.02 Mbps Test 2: 1024K took 1702 ms = 601.6 KB/sec, approx 4957 Kbps, 4.84 Mbps Test 3: 1024K took 1703 ms = 601.3 KB/sec, approx 4955 Kbps, 4.84 Mbps Test 4: 2048K took 4045 ms = 506.3 KB/sec, approx 4172 Kbps, 4.07 Mbps Overall Average Speed = approx 4805 Kbps, 4.69 Mbps To repeat this test from the source server click here. Above is a pretty typical speedtest result I am getting today , Speedtest.net was worse, but this was measured immediately after a 300MB dowload from newsgroups that ran at 1.0-1.2MB/s |
