Re: Freeview changes

The Local channels will likely still be DVB-T rather than DVB-T2, as the latter would likely be a much more expensive change to implement, but they have all changed to MPEG4 as part of the October Freeview changes.

I’ve got a TV that doesn’t get the HD channels or any SD channels on BBCB but does get MPEG4 SD channels on DVB-T multiplexes, i.e. the D3&4 multiplex.

Is this a secondary TV in a bedroom or kitchen? If it's a main one you'd get a TV with a DVB-T2 tuner or a DVB-T2 STB.

It’s currently unused, it’s a 24” model that was HD capable in other countries at release, just not when sold in UK as there were (and still are no) HD DVB-T transmitted channels here.

I only mentioned it to highlight that some people will have old equipment (before small screen DVB-T2 TV got cheap enough) that can get these newly converted MPEG4 channels but cannot receive the HD channels, or those on their DVB-T2 multiplex.

Part of a small subset of TVs in UK that have unusual reception capabilities.

Thanks for that MB. Assumed due to a poster on another forum they had all moved from MPEG2 to 4.

Re: Freeview changes

Aren't all these four channels carried on the Local TV multiplex (L-COM)? The problem, as I see it, is that these low-margin channels will be hit if compression is changed from MPEG-2 to MPEG-4 when an old TV cannot decode MPEG-4. Another possibility is that the broadcasters are paying a fixed amount, so have no incentive to move to MPEG-4. However I don't think MPEG-2 will survive after 2030.

Freeview may die by then as you cant no longer get Freeview TV Set.

In my local carrys when buying a new Livingroom TV and PC you can only get Freely TV Set.

What?

Are you saying they no longer build a TV that can receive a freeview signal through an aerial?

Most Freely TVs still have a tuner (DVB-T2) I do also have to point out that some of the biggest TV brands are not licenced for Freely either and therefore do not have it . LG is a prime example

Check out this one for example / Clearly states its Tuners under connectivity. I think Mr Boy you do not know you TV hardware hahaah

of all things tech TVs has to be the devices least effected by inflation. The very fact there is little R&D required now you can get a half decent 65 inch TV less than 500 quid

Oh I'm not worried, I don't even watch the damn thing anyway. It just seemed such an odd statement for Media Boy to come out with.
