Indeed but whilst I didn't agree with cable-TV theft, at least it didn't physically degrade a paying customer's service. Cloned modem users go down in the same category as BNP supporters for me; they were either ignorant or selfish and otherwise abhorrent.

What shocked me was how blasé ntl:, Telewest and VM were about it for ages really. Nagra2 was cracked early on in the last decade, it took until the end of that decade for VM to actually rectify the issue.

To be fair I'm guessing part of the issue were the multiple billing and provisioning systems used by all the ex-companies

Trying to manage a whole subscriber swap of of cards would have been a nightmare!

Well ntl and Telewest were completely separate until 2006ish, and they remained operationally separate until 2007. I'm sure independently them they could have done it before merging - Sky have changed cards a handful of times without too many problems.

But then ntl still had 3 different billing systems at the time of the merger (not sure how many different provisioning systems were in place) and Telewest had only just finished moving theirs across to one system

Ah true, gawd forgot about that - and how ex-C&W had different STBs etc.

I have to disgree. Why, oh, why did Virgin Media EVER have a TV M which is FREE and allow these thieves to prosper and also fail to physically disconnect people who had left?

It was only free (I prefer the term included) when they took a phone line and broadband...

I think you will find that it is still illegal to view that in this country and any court case will be in favour of it staying illegal.
