Not for much longer ;)

We have to be sure everyone has swapped their catds before we switch off the old encryption.

Do you know if Virgin have switch off the old encryption in Scotland yet?

I suspect not, now. VM have shut down most analogue areas (AFAIK).

Nope, most chipped or CS boxes are/were digital. The original Nagra encryption is a digital encryption :p:

Pedant mode on

There has not been a chip installed in a cable box to allow the user to watch encrypted channels for years I believe. I think in fairness most if not all chipped boxes were analogue

Pedant mode off

It is however common practice to call modified boxes "chipped" although they are not :)

Yep and as this thread is about "chipped boxes" and the changes Nagra 3 (a digital encryption method) then it's correct to assume that it's not to do with the old analogue boxes..

The thing is that if you say Modified box to most of the public you;ll get a blank look where as a chipped box will get some response ;)

<aside>

Indeed ... as it is also common practice to call the process of solving computing problems 'debugging' ... even though it has been many years since computers had the sort of enormous valves that used to get clogged up with insects to the point where they would overheat and go pop, requiring both a new valve and a sweep with a brush to remove the bugs from the works.

:D ;)
