Yes.
My footy club hasn't seen me as a season ticket fan since the Sky took over TV rights. And then we were relocted to the Ricoh Arena with promises of wonderful things. Been a tormented and forlorn fan for longer than I can remember. 'Business' always lurked in the background. As it would. The rot has been creepng in for a long time. My passion for my club waned when Sky took over the sensationalistic coverage. I can tollerate an awful lot, but not this rubbish. I won't give my beloved Sky Blues the time of day any more. CCFC couldn't even let their fans, and travelling fans, know where they were playing today's game until not many hours ago. Happy Easter all. Shame on those who let this happen and forget that it's fans that keep/kept the Sky Blue game going with their passion, voices, feet and wallets. (Off rant now - ish :) ) |

Re: Football Season 2012/2013
Whilst I agree the sacking of Martin O'Neill has come at a poor time, it was inevitable he was going to be sacked, vastly overrated manager who was given 3 transfer windows and a load of cash. In the end he spent poorly and failed to do his job adequately. Any manager willing to play Titus Bramble in Premier League football should not be managing a top flight club.

Re: Football Season 2012/2013
The new Sunderland manager has to first survive the drop and secondly spend wisely assuming they can spend this summer. O'Neill and Bruce have made poor signings for high fee's.
Sunderland need a much better scouting system and as much as it pains me in what's supposed to be an English league... they need foreign investment, if you're going to spend £14m on a Scottish striker then it's simple, there's 3-4 better players you could sign abroad for that total, I don't just mean one for £14m I mean all four.. It can be done too, there's no ''Who would go to Sunderland'' in it. Look at the French International's in our team. We're just as close to the drop and signed Debuchy and Sissoko in January. Whilst you could say we're pushing on a European front yes, that's not going to matter if we fail to keep our top flight status. If I was appointed Sunderland manager I'd do the following. 1) Release Titus Bramble and any other crap like Cattermole etc. 2) Sack every scout on the payroll. 3) Re-build the scouting system from the ground up. 4) Sign youth from Foreign leagues as well as spend any money I had in transfer windows in properly scouted leagues abroad. Onto Newcastle. It's just getting better on a financial front, Newcastle will be in their best financial position ever come the summer due to commercial deals and a number of things. A recent commercial deal has been completed but is being kept under wraps (I have no idea why) but said deal is quoted to being the biggest deal in the club's history but not quite as big as the top four. Black Cats appoint Head Coach
Published: 31 March, 2013 by Sunderland AFC Paolo Di Canio signs deal on Wearside. Sunderland AFC have today announced the appointment of Paolo Di Canio as Head Coach. The 44 year-old has agreed a two and a half year deal on Wearside and will take charge of the Black Cats from tomorrow (Monday). Di Canio entered football management in 2011, taking charge of Swindon Town. During his tenure he guided the Robins to promotion and a Wembley final. As a player he made more than 500 appearances, scoring over 100 goals. Beginning his career in his native Italy, he played for top sides Lazio, Juventus, Napoli and AC Milan before making a move to Celtic. This was followed by stints in the Premier League with Sheffield Wednesday, West Ham and Charlton. During his time in English football he scored in excess of 60 goals. Chairman Ellis Short said: “Paolo is hugely enthused by the challenge that lies ahead of him. He is passionate, driven and raring to get started. “The sole focus of everyone for the next seven games will be to ensure we gain enough points to maintain our top-flight status. “I think that the chances of that are greatly increased with Paolo joining us. “Our fans have shown tremendous patience and understanding this season. They have continued to back the team in huge numbers, both home and away, and that is something that continues to inspire all of us in our drive to give them the successful club they deserve. “That remains our primary aim.” http://www.safc.com/news/club-news/2...oach-confirmed Good luck Paolo hope we can points we need to stay up |

Re: Football Season 2012/2013
Bloody hell Arthur, you would be moaning if he stayed at the club because he was condoning the political views of Di Canio, who is a self confessed fascist. Good on him for not wishing to condone the political views of such a man.
Wonder how much a first class ticket one way costs to America, and how long it would take us to have a whip round to buy one for Arthur to go with Miliband to America. I've got £30 to start us off..... |

Paolo Di Canio: “I’m not a Fascist” (but Italy would be in a ‘better situation’ under Mussolini)
Is Paolo Di Canio still a Fascist? Right now, he is not saying because he only wants to talk about football, but there is a rambling interview in a 2002 book West Ham: Irons in the Soul by Pete May (available as an e-book) in which he can be said to have answered the question: “I never said I was a fan of Mussolini but for the media it is more easy to make the polemic. I said that after Mussolini no one political man was a patriot or a nationalist because nationalism is not equal to being a Nazi. English people are very proud of their nationalism too; my nationalism means you are proud because you are Italian… “In Italy if the right or left win the election they don’t think in three or four years time we will give the people a better society… They don’t think tomorrow we are going to work for the people, they think tomorrow we start the publicity for the next election. They have no vision. With Mussolini I’m sure we would have had a better situation, but not in a wrong way, not with a union with the Nazis because I am not a Fascist. Then was a different time, nobody wants war, now we want peace…” “Black or white or yellow people, gay people, men or women, they can come to my house and be my friend because I am not xenophobic.” http://blogs.independent.co.uk/2013/...der-mussolini/ |

Lets get this one thing straight, why the hell does politics have to come into football with what De Canio has said in the past.
Its like David Cameron would welcome Celtic and Rangers in the EPL, but this is being blocked by the bigotry between by the football authorities. What is happening here is that Sunderland have chosen a bloke as his passion for football is top of his agenda. Sunderland must have thought about this before deciding on De canio, but it takes people with small minds to get involved in this damn thing, which is causing problems. Its like asking Arsene Wenger to become Tottenham boss, due to his stint at Arsenal this would bring uproar in North London. Its about saving a great football club from relegation, not about what he has said in the past. ---------- Post added at 14:30 ---------- Previous post was at 14:30 ---------- Lets get this one thing straight, why the hell does politics have to come into football with what De Canio has said in the past. Statement from Paolo Di Canio
Published: 03 April, 2013 by Sunderland AFC Head coach speaks. PAOLO DI CANIO, Wednesday 03 April, 2013 “I have clearly stated that I do not wish to speak about matters other than football, however, I have been deeply hurt by the attacks on the football club. “This is a historic, proud and ethical club and to read and hear some of the vicious and personal accusations is painful. I am an honest man, my values and principles come from my family and my upbringing. "I feel that I should not have to continually justify myself to people who do not understand this, however I will say one thing only - I am not the man that some people like to portray. “I am not political, I do not affiliate myself to any organisation, I am not a racist and I do not support the ideology of fascism. I respect everyone. “I am a football man and this and my family are my focus. Now I will speak only of football.” http://www.safc.com/news/club-news/2...paolo-di-canio well said Paolo hopefully people will let him do his job now |

Re: Football Season 2012/2013
People want to see society via the prism of football. Remember the racism scandals last year? They're relatively tame in the grand scheme of things, meriting punishment but not the outrage that papers had at the time. Even the Government said they would have to step in if football didn't get it's house in order! The Government would do better to examine in society as a whole rather than pretending it was a problem that begins and ends with Football. A traditionally working class sport, sometimes poorly educated players and players from abroad? Not a surprise that occasionally one of them would say something unacceptable.
Same here. People look to football to 'set an example' when it's clearly not suited to the task. It's populated with a lot of morons and most of them are in the stands. |
