I often look through the top few divisions of the non league clubs to see just how many I can remember playing in the top four divisions, it's a frightening number. :(

Yes its quite sad seeing some of the old football league clubs struggling now as some names that come to hand are Southport , Workington , Darlington , Chester , Halifax , etc , etc.

At least they are still in existence even with if they are'phoenix' clubs -the true supporters will follow them forever at whatever level.
There are others that have disappeared forever. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cate...ubs_in_England

Meanwhile: Contracts have been signed and submitted to the Premier League between Ashley and Dubai-based billionaire Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan, to buy Newcastle United for £350M.

This is breaking as of 40 minutes ago. Bold claim though.

Edit: Newcastle issue no comment statement. Sky Sports are going into meltdown at the thought they've been out scooped. I'm just sat thinking are we really doing this again? It's worth noting from my own perspective, Ashley and Co have been negotiating promises with Benitez and those have progressed well and a deal was set to be reached in the coming week. So why bother with that if a deal to sell the club was that close? Said before someone was in the data room but a deal this quick seems too far fetched. This is the same guy that failed in a £2bn takeover of Liverpool so he's sniffing around the Premier League regardless.

Sheikh Khaled's reps claim deal is concluded.

News outlets now running story that Sheikh Khaled has insisted he's purchased Newcastle United for a price of £350M. I'm gobsmacked.

Sadly there is a fair amount of clubs on that list Jim that sadly reached their demise.:(

Newcastle confirm talks with Sheikh Khaled. Another Staveley and Kenyon spanner to deflect from the fact they've probably lost Benitez?

Shame they couldn't include the smaller club the other side of Tyne as part of the deal ! 0.1 of the millions would probably save them.

You could buy the whole of Newcastle for £350m, not just the footy club ( and have Sunderland as a bonus) ! :D
Wonder if the Sheikh knows of some oil reserve under St James? ;)

Couldn’t find any mention on that list of Haggate Lads, Dannimac Rovers, Duke of York or any of the other clubs I once played for that no longer exist.

Dubai media are now reporting that Sheikh Khaled has completed the takeover of Newcastle United. This is crazy.

JIM.:D

Maybe they just don't pick you any longer ? ;)

See Blyth are another club that have recently disappeared from the same area. Maybe Newcastle supporters should get round some more grounds, save a packet and have a more entertaining day...
South Shields is a guaranteed good day :)
