Just been checking out Google Maps and Bing Maps as I sometimes do when having a break. Not sure if it's been mentioned here before but I found some staggering images of Davis Monahan Air Force Base in Arizona which seems to be a giant aircraft storage depot and graveyard. Thousands of mothballed and cannibalised planes to see for anyone who's interested in that sort of thing.

Probably the most famous storage depot.
It was used in the recent Channel 4 adverts before programs starts and also featured in Con Air. Amazing looking at it on Google earth though

There's quite a few around the world, though not as large as Arizona (which has more than one) the Russian ones are especially interesting.

It hit the third wire which is better than a lot of manned planes do :D

787 forced to return to Ringway
Quote:

A Boeing 787 Dreamliner jet has been forced to return to Manchester Airport following "a technical issue".

The Thomson Airways plane was travelling from Manchester to Sanford, Florida but circled over North Wales for 30 minutes before returning.

The holiday company said the incident was not connected to a fire on a parked Ethiopian Airlines Dreamliner at Heathrow Airport earlier.

Thomson Airways described the return as "precautionary".

A spokeswoman for the company said: "Passengers have disembarked and our dedicated team of engineers are now inspecting the aircraft.

"Our customers will be moved to an alternative aircraft to ensure they get away on their holiday as soon as possible".

She added: "The safety of our customers and crew is of paramount importance and we would like to apologise for the delay caused."

I wonder if there are any brown pants after this.

Does look very low though.

Ill-informed comment on the end of the article, I thought...

Fighters are reknowned for putting reheat on when they are landing....
