yeah robinwalker needs to increase the files above 128k for accuracy, the larger the file the more accurate it is and I have found incosistencies on his speedtest sometimes.

Hi my area (Parkstone, Poole, Dorset - BH14 area) has been done as far as i can work out, am getting 754k or so results (about 90k/s) from Robin Walker's speed test.

Looks right if you are on the 750K package Zeph. :)

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades

I was on the 750k speed last night (downloading at around 85ksec). However, tonight I'm only downloading at 70ksec again. I've ran a speed check on my connection and getting the following:

Thu, 5 Aug 2004 21:43:36 UTC
1st 128K took 1842 ms = 71157 Bytes/sec = approx 592 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 1823 ms = 71899 Bytes/sec = approx 598 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 1823 ms = 71899 Bytes/sec = approx 598 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 1822 ms = 71939 Bytes/sec = approx 599 kbits/sec

Looks like I'm back on 600k!! Any idea why this could have happened?

You may have been upgraded "accidentally", & then lost it. Happened to someone in this thread: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/sh...ad.php?t=15826

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades

I am curious if this is a accident or wether they may simply be testing the servers provided ( or some other networking componet) and those who happen to be in shutdown or just reboot are getting updated and when they reboot again are losing it because the test has run out.

Just a thought.

Rochdale is still running sweet at 1.5mb

;)

i think i got my 750kbs tonite/this morning.
seems alot faster now :)
yet theres been a slight decrease in upload it use to hit 11kbs now it just about hitting 10, but the download speed have gone from 72kbs to 88kbs which i am very happy with.

mite go faster if i shut things like GSA and msn down

I was upgraded on the 28th of July (I posted a thread about it) and it has been very smooth.

Downloads are at a constant 86kb/sec :D

I'm in the Manchester area.

Might be because of the higher download speed, your system is using more upstream to manage the downstream (e.g. it needs to send ACK packets, etc.) Usually when downloading at 64kB/sec this takes around 4kB/sec upstream, so I'd guess at ~90kB/sec it'll need around ~6kB/sec to keep the downloads running...

p.s. MSN hardly uses any bandwidth, hardly ever more than a single 20kB downstream burst during sign-in. I dunno what GSA is though...

Re: [Merged] BB Speed Upgrades

One thing that I have noticed since the speed increases came in is that when doing speed tests on Robin Walkers site the resulting four figures are very close together and virtually on the supposed speed figure. Before the upgrade the four figures would be up and down like yoyo's and more often than not a fair bit below the supposed figure.
