They have been the only channel to bother with the cricket and then boom BT show up and out of nowhere they have the next Ashes series.
That must have kicked someone's arse in Sky and then that is why they have got straight onto securing the next few series without hesitation.

The production of Sky is good I just think the commentators could do with a shuffle. I like Athers and Bumble and Ricky Ponting was good but all the others are just 'comfortable'.
If I could sync TMS with the pictures I think that would be preferred option. TMS just has more life in them but I guess that is because they have to get that across more due to the lack of pictures.
Shows that it is an art form.

Possibly a little off topic, and I am not entirely sure how many people will be interested.

However, given the number of negative comments about commentators generally being poor these days, I thought I would highlight the one and only Barry Davies is going to be commentating on Absolute Radio's PL games for the next few weeks. Can't wait to hear him commentate again.

The whole thing would have collapsed if the BBC hadn't stepped in. Think the marketing of it as BBC works in favour and Sir Henry is more than honoured every year.

Couple of deals on the market at the moment in terms of free SKY Sports day passes on NOW TV.

The first deal is with Pringles (Tesco only). You need to buy 2 tubes promoting the SKY Sports NOW TV pass deal. This link will tell you the rest:

https://www.bigmatch.pringles.com/uk/Home

Tesco are doing 2 promo tubes for £3.00 at the moment:

http://www.tesco.com/groceries/produ.../?id=290037438

So if you like Pringles, and want a free SKY Sports NOW TV pass you know what to do :)

The second deal is with Gillette. Buy any Gillette Fusion ProGlide Razor or Blades packs featuring the ‘FREE NOW TV SKY SPORTS DAY PASS’ and claim your free pass. Here's more details:

http://gillettenowtv.com/

This one's not as appealing as the Pringles deal. These razors / blades cost about £10.00. I suppose if your going to be spending that already on a new razor you'd be as well buying the Gillette to get your day pass.

tassiekev 07-10-2015 09:42

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

Get my razors from Aldi - free tube of bleed stopper with every one, scarring is optional. See, this way I'm too scary to leave the house and can afford to pay full price for my Sky Sports - Bonus.

Sky's line rental goes up to £17.40 a month from December 1st up 6% from £16.40

Sky Talk packages: Those who got a Sky Talk phone package pre-7 July 2015 will be moved to one of Sky's new call packages which come ON TOP OF line rental. These cost from £0/mth-£12/mth but Sky admits it will move some from a free package to a paid-for package, although it won't give further info to us, so it's vital you check your Sky literature. See Sky's full package prices.

Sky Talk (1571) voicemail: Will rise to £1.25/month from £1/month – a 25% increase.

Non-inclusive calls costs: The connection fee will rise to 16.9p/call from 15.9p/call. Calls to UK landlines, calls to UK mobiles and the access charge to call service numbers will also change to 11.5p/min from 9.5p/min, 12.7p/min and 9.5p/min respectively – an up to 21% increase.

Quite agree, ch4 has an excellent history (IMO) with sport:

1) they gave horse racing coverage increased when BBC dropped event after event
2) they created the original uk following of NFL with their coverage
3) they took over cricket when BBC dropped it
4) coverage of many Paralympics which other broadcasters would shy away from it
5) innovative sports such as red bull air race

I'm sure there is more

Give them a chance I would say and be grateful some live ones remain on FTA

Premier Sports (both SD and HD) have an extended FTV period, starting 06:00 on Wednesday going into the New Year on Sky. Does anybody know if this is being replicated on VM?

Extreme Sports will close at 06:00 on New Years Eve.

Nothing stays the same forever, pengedragon. I don't really understand your comment that it doesn't fit. Channel 4 has shown sport events such as horse racing over the years. Why would it not show F1?

No issue with it, just feels a bit odd is all

Meanwhile, ITV has secured UK horse-racing in place of Channel 4 from 2017.

Did not see that coming, I would of thought F1 was to add to their sport portfolio not replace

Lets hope they don't ruin it with third rate presenters.

ITV is understood to have won rights to cover fixtures including the Cheltenham Festival, Grand National, the Derby and Royal Ascot, from January 2017.

Channel 4, which has broadcast racing for more than 30 years, will show 90 days of racing in 2016, concluding with the Challow Hurdle meeting at Newbury on 31 December.

Yes rumours had been around for 6 months of this possible outcome.

Another surprise on the rights front - Dave will be showing comeback fight of former world boxing champion David Haye.

If one wants boxing then it should be put on the proper sports channels and not on channels whose remit has nothing to do with sport.

I think UKTV are prepared to trying their hand at anything. They seem to have a real focus on live events at the moment.

http://corporate.uktv.co.uk/news/art...omeback-fight/

"We are quickly establishing UKTV as a network able to handle attention-grabbing live events, from the Python's last ever performance - Monty Python Live (Mostly) for Gold through Really's Halloween spectacular Most Haunted Live to Dave's ratings success, the Red Bull Soapbox Race. Our ambition continues to grow in terms of the variety and quality of our programming and appointment to view TV remains at the top of our wish list."

"We are increasingly stretching our offering to Dave viewers, bringing them programmes which tap into the news agenda, such as last year's election special The Pub Landlord vs Nigel Farage. I'm thrilled to be giving our viewers a ringside seat to this hotly-anticipated boxing match and, with Dave's own spin on the event, helping to show the sport in a brand new light."

Do you mean the Plebs who do not pay to a watch sport on a Premium sports channel, should be denied access on a free channel? The Prols really are getting above themselves these days, aren't they?! ;):D

Putting it on Dave gives more people access, surely not a bad thing?

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

Sorry but certain channels like Dave and several others like Yesterday quite clearly have a certain audience and have always had that but when you start putting boxing on one channel and garden programmes on the other then in my opinion they have quite clearly have not any idea of how to run a channel to its stated remit as they have simply lost the plot in my humble opinion.

But Dave is geared towards a 'Blokes' or 'Lads' channel. Surely boxing fits right into that niche?

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

Not in my opinion as if that was the case then why has it not shown any sport in its 9 years as its remit was for a certain type of programme/series and Dave like Yesterday and several others channels is veering far too far from the remit of what the channel should be showing in my opinion.

Boxing is a sport, but I would think is predominantly a sport watched mainly by men. And I could possibly see that it is watched by some people who aren't interested in any other sport. Another example of a sport watched by people who quite possibly don't watch any other sport would be motor racing.

I think you're being completely absurd, but I'll play along. Which Sports channel would you like it to be shown on?
