Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3

Hi just renewed with virgin for another year and was given a free extra TiVo box. I remember reading there were issues with football first red button a while back? Is it fully functional now?

My parents have just returned from a trip to the US , whilst there they saw trailers for a TV show coming this fall called 'Nashville' which they liked the look of. Whilst at their house I set a wishlist up for them so as if the show was picked up in the UK it would auto record , can someone confirm I've done this right and if it should pick it up.

I set title keyword as Nashville , in the Actor section I put Connie Britton who stars in it then set it to auto record however I set episodes to New only is this all correct ?

Yes, that should work fine; though I would start with it set to "new and repeats" just in case they get the OAD from the US airings and not the UK ones. You can always change it after you have checked the first ep :)

Thanks Carl , next time I'm up at their house I'll alter it for them , wishlist is a useful feature for instances like this. :tu: can you then change from a wishlist to a series link easy enough if you see it in your planned recordings.

No problem. You have set it to 'auto-record' as well, right? :p:

I might actually set one up like that for "Continuum", which is a Canadian show I like the sound of :)

I've occasionaly run into problems (possibly my error) on future shows such as Nashville, when the whishlist has picked the recording up on a non HD channel, but there is an HD version of the channel. I've set up a series link for the HD version and cancelled the recording for the SD channel, and then I've found that planned recordings sometimes show that it won't record the episode on either channel. To avoid the occurence of that, I leave the original whishlist and recording alone and set up a series link for the HD channel and then go to 'Manage my series links' and make the HD series link a higher priority than the whishlist recording (it won't record both). The 'Manage my series links' does take a long time to process changes though. By doing it this way, when, on the odd occasion that a show changes channel, the series link will fail but the wishlist will still pick up the recording.

In that case they'll have to watch at our house :D , it seems more likely to be an E4 or Sky Living type show though :D

Thanks for that. :)

Another useful feature my parents have found is the ability to set the amount of episodes to be kept , example they have a SL for the local news however don't always get chance to watch every day and episodes mount up , they've now set to keep 1 episode only and problem solved. :)

Indeed. I do the same for the NBC Nightly News on CNBC.
