Thats the place :)

Cool, I usually park along the road by the side of the Romper and walk down. I've never risked parking at the Holiday Grim, not sure if they go around checking the cars lately but I know a few people who do sneak in there.

I'll check ATIS on Monday morning if I can remember and post a heads-up as to which runway direction is active. Gutted I can't get any time off to pop down.

Cheers yeah. I've just had two days off though and have 300+ unread mails in my inbox so might be a bit pushed to get any time off this week but I will try :)

Looks like were on 23L today which is a bummer. I'll keep an ear out for it on VHF.

Seen everything today, 2 Dreamliners, The A380, The Antonov 225 and an explosion on a Thomas Cook during take off, which shut down the runways,

Re: Plane Spotters Corner

Dont think the explosion was as serious as I made out, apparently it was the brakes going bang, loud bang though, it managed to get off the runway itself so it couldnt have been all that bad. Shut the runway for about 45 minutes while they got a road sweeper on the job. I wouldnt have fancied being on the plane which was about to land, it didnt half pull up steep to abort. No vids sorry

Area 51 (including the salt lake extension) is only 8,000m long, where as the salt lake runway at Edwards AFB is 12,000 long ;)
