The dogs are only placed at the top for UEFA competitions, starting with the Champions League this week and the Europa League once the competition starts proper.

Dogs in the bottom corner seem to still BT's choice going forward for other competitions where their feed doesn't block the bottom corner.

Showing it at the bottom is madness, it's always covering the playing surface and this in turn blocks out some of the play, when it's at the top it's nearly always in the crowd and therefore none of the play is blocked.

exactly. but its probably some late 20s executive working for BT whos on 200k a year and thinks putting the score board at the bottom is "quirky and revolutionary" and will make them stand out against sky sports.

Hiring and keeping the incompetent Michael owen is doing that for them alone.

Who let the DOGs out?

OLD BOY 23-08-2015 13:29

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

I don't know why they even need the DOGs in the first place. Most people with a brain know which TV channel they have tuned into, and if they've forgotten just need to press the 'info' button.

Even if they have concluded there is a need for them, I don't know why they have to be so prominent! Why can't they be greyed out so that they are less obtrusive?

Very annoying.

Yes, we know that, and look what adverse publicity BT have had over their branding! A greyed out DOG should overcome most objections.

Losing the next Ashes will bother SKY as it gives their rivals a foot in the door. The ECB will be very much looking forward to the next tender for domestic matches and SKY will no doubt have to pay a lot more to retain rights or be prepared to share or loose some.

It does now make sense as to why BT paid big sums to sign up Graeme Swann when they only had rights to Caribbean 20:20 cricket

I'm glad to see BT focusing on building up it's sports portfolio outside of just football. If they get next year's US Open tennis I'll be very happy.

They also have women's cricket and Big Bash leagues and some FTA highlights and some live games too

BT Sport has also acquired free-to-air rights that includes daily highlights of international matches and the Big Bash League, as well as one Big Bash League ‘match of the round’ broadcast live and free each week.

Interesting in that they seem to have also gained FTA content . I imagine it's for BT Sport Showcase, good to see some live cricket returning to fta.

Not for me. I will, finally, have the choice to watch pl football (if I want), premiership rugby, and what should be some pretty decent test cricket and to a lesser extent a decent powder puff T20 tournament. Obviously it's not England, but being a neutral has its benefits if a test gets tight.

It won't cost me much more, I simply need to join bt, on a cheap deal nearer the time and get the above heavily reduced in price. It's all good in my eyes.

It's not overly bt's fault prices go up, They do offer their sports dirt cheap. Sky should reduce theirs accordingly. It's just that Sky never will!

Not bad news for US ALL.

I refuse to subscribe to SKY and love cricket so good news for me.

Anyway lets face it is the billions paid for football that is driving up the subs. £80m for 5 years of cricket is nothing, in fact a mere snip compared to £900m for 3 years champions league and £5billion for 3 years Premier League. I doubt this will have much impact on current level of subs.

If you are an England cricket fan it might even save you money as instead of subscribing to SKY, who won't be showing any English cricket in Dec2017/Jan2018, you instead subscribe to BT who are currently cheaper.

For as long as people keep paying them and not cancelling or downgrading significantly. Have Premier League rights reached their peak?

Prices will always go up regardless as consumers are prepared to pay. That's the unfortunate reality but it's about 90% driven by football.

I doubt these cricket rights are is going impact too much on BT's bottom line and therefore subs. Lets face it, this is £16m a year for the cricket compared to £300m a year for Champions League and Europa.

Its funny as just a few days ago lots of people were cheering SKY about the so called bargain of £18m a year for La Liga rights. When it comes to PR and ratings for The Ashes V El Classico, in my mind the cricket wins, no contest. So a far more sensible purchase for BT in my view.

Good point I agree , one thing the competition does is drive sports prices down if you'll shop around.

As an example just look at the discounts offered over the last year or so for Sky Sports , VM have seen the season ticket on the Sky platform people have been reporting tons of half price for 3,6,9,12 months.

The question is would you have been offered this had BT not got involved in Sport ?

BT Sport have also offered discounts if you take their own TV or inclusive with XL if you take VM or £5 for Sky Subscribers who take BT Broadband.

From what I understand BBC are showing the Wembley games live and Superbowl but that's it, not sure if there will even be a highlights show on FTA.

Although not FTA at least Sky will be showing the last 6 Sunday night games on Sky 1.

Real shame it's all on Sky now, was gutted to lose MNF from Eurosport to Sky last year and now SNF too. Very tempted to get the game pass now.

Had exactly the same thought :D

Robbie & Owen surplus to requirements in the commentary box, just having Hoddle without either of them would be so much better.

Sort that out and the logos and then BT's coverage would be pretty good. Ian Wright was on great form today.

I'm pretty sure they're Qatar based and have satellite and internet operations throughout the Middle East. I subscribed to their service a while ago but cancelled after a couple of weeks as the promised Premier League games weren't being shown on their internet channels. From memory, they had a couple of dozen sports channels and covered football from all over the world, rugby, cricket etc. etc. They also had general entertainment & documentary channels as well as numerous movie channels similar to those that Sky offer. It's a big operation and I don't think they're short of a bob or two.

So anyone with a computer could subscribe I guess? Can you get any of their channels on the a Sky box,I.e. by manually tuning in?

No, the satellite footprint is restricted to the Middle East & N. Africa. They weren't too fussy about taking my money but a lot of their football rights don't allow internet transmission, which is what I wanted - they refunded my money very quickly and without any hassles.

Not too sure if Premier League Pass operating out of NZ may be worth looking at.

OK thanks for that. Does sound like it's not for me as I only like football when it comes to sport

I've linked to the last page but if you go backwards you'll get the idea. Don't start from the beginning because the thread was started 2 years ago.

HD is £7 SS is £29.95 I think

The legal stuff looks wrong

Sky Sports HD & Sky Movies HD: You must subscribe to Sky Sports and/or Sky Movies in SD to take these channels in HD. Sky Sports 3 HD and Sky Sports 4 HD are not included. Sky Movies Premiere +1 not available in HD. It's £7 a month for Sky Sports and Sky Movies in HD.

All Sky sports channels are available in HD

I note that we still haven't got the BT Showcase channel. Does anyone know what the delay is all about and when we will be able to pick it up on VM?

As far as I understand it we get BT freeview on channel 548 for FTA matches, showcase is reserved for freeview

That was my understanding, but it's not broadcasting yet on VM, although it is on Freeview.

I think it will only broadcast when there is FTA, it's not 24 hours per say AFAIK

Nothing appears to be scheduled yet on the EPG.

No, the EPG will only be updated very near to when the matches are shown. This lack of certainty helps encourage subscriptions to BT Sport.

548 carried the Man Utd game last week on VM - BT have not yet announced the next 'free' game which will be on 15 or 16 Sept.

To confirm, BT Sport Showcase is not coming to VM. That's why BT Sport Europe is unscrambled on 548 on VM from time to time but only when the FTA matches are on.

Looks as if BT are going to show (as I predicted ) the first pick CL game on BT Sport Europe and second pick on BT Sport 2, so two games in HD for Virgin Media and Sky users

Interestingly the Showcase game is Wednesday again (may be a regular thing) and on both days there is a game on BT Sport Extra 1 meaning BT Sport lite will get at least one game per night.

This what what was quoted on digital spy

Full schedule:

Tuesday September 15: Paris Saint-Germain v Malmo - 7.30pm (BT Sport Extra 3)
Tuesday September 15: Real Madrid v Shakhtar Donetsk - 7.30pm (BT Sport Extra 1)

Tuesday September 15: Manchester City v Juventus - 7.30pm (BT Sport Europe / BT Sport Ultra HD)
Tuesday September 15: Sevilla v Borussia Monchengladbach - 7.30pm (BT Sport Extra 2)

Sky Sports adds even more England Test cricket

Quote:

Sky Sports*has secured the rights to England’s 2016 tour of Bangladesh, further strengthening its position as the home of cricket.*

The deal for two Tests and three One-Day Internationals means that all of England’s matches for the next two years will be exclusively live on Sky Sports, following the recent agreement to show England’s tour against Pakistan in the UAE next month.

They seem to be getting very defensive about being the 'home of cricket', Could it be because BT sports have got the next Ashes series ? It seems to have upset Sky a lot !

You'd have to ask them that , personally I'd sooner watch paint dry over cricket incredibly boring game in my opinion.
