I might be a Tottenham fan, but how is it fair that Bayern dominated the game throughout, and yet it went to penalties when Chelsea done it.

Throughout the game the only player that did anything was Cole, there was nothing up front from Chelsea, l think they only had one shot on target and that was from cheater Drogba.

Am l angry, you are damn right l am, you get teams that play for the draw, and you could see it written all over the game, that is the only way that Chelsea could beat Bayern - on penalties.

No, what we should have are judges, like in figure skating, who give marks out of ten to the team who dominate throughout and if it is level at after 90 minutes, the team with the highest marks from the judges will win...that should make it fairer ;)

How does that sound Arthur?

Auxerre have taken the lead over Montpellier! Montpellier are ahead in the title race on the final day, a small team who only need to avoid defeat or hope PSG don't win to win the title. Come on Montpellier.

Bayern got exactly what they deserved which is nothing. Their finishing was appalling, Petr Cech only made one save of note, a lucky deflection with his foot onto the post. He did not have to make a single 'world class' save all night, he was not leaping left and right keeping out one goal bound effort after another. Chelsea had one chance and scored a very good goal, Bayern's huge number of dreadful attempts would not have been out of place in our local Sunday League.

Even Torres would have put a couple of them away.:D

PSG are drawing at the moment as are Montpellier.

---------- Post added at 21:33 ---------- Previous post was at 21:29 ----------

PSG have taken the lead. Montpellier are still drawing and their game was delayed due to fan trouble so this may well be very close!

---------- Post added at 21:52 ---------- Previous post was at 21:33 ----------

Hazard has played his last game for Lille and left to a standing ovation after scoring a hat-trick.

PSG have won their game which means Montpellier cannot lose if they want to win the league. It would be tragic if they didn't. They are a small team and would have beaten the billionaire owned and funded team of PSG. They are drawing 1 - 1 at relegated Auxerre but the game is 10 minutes behind due to the game being suspended due to fan trouble. It's just been suspended again due to even more fan trouble.

---------- Post added at 21:57 ---------- Previous post was at 21:52 ----------

The Auxerre fans seem intent on destroying Montpellier's chances. The ultras seem to want the game to be called off and are celebrating the suspensions in play whilst mocking the Montpellier fans.

Montpellier have won Ligue 1. Outstanding achievement. Probably the least suspected winner of all the major leagues in Europe. This is a smallish team, mid-table at best, that have beaten the likes of PSG to the title.

---------- Post added at 22:33 ---------- Previous post was at 22:29 ----------

As for Hazard I suspect this will drag long into the Summer. He, or his agents, will try and play Chelsea, United and City against each other and maybe entertain bids from Madrid. Expect teasing quotes every few days from the player and United to pull out as the wage demands prove excessive.

I think the major talking points of the close season will be of Tottenham.

Daniel Levy will keep to his word and NO ONE will be leaving, you cannot buy success.

Roman thinks he can buy cups etc, and City feel the same. Tottenham are a growing club and next season will surprise everyone.

A rumour going round now is that Roman is prepared to offer Harry Rednapp £400.000 per WEEK, to manage Chelsea, is he mad.

This is quite an interesting article on ticket prices for next season. I cannot believe that Arsenals cheapest season ticket is more expensive than Uniteds most expensive! I know the Arsenal season ticket includes more games, but still. You can see why some Arsenal fans are so demanding of the team.

You do get the Champions League games included and the first few FA Cup games. The United season ticket price is a bit of a bluff because you're required to buy the Champions League and FA Cup games as they come available. Why they can't include that with the total price is a bit weird.

If we take the most expensive United season ticket: £950 for the 'Sir Alex Ferguson Stand Tier 1 / South Upper Centre' area and then add 7 cup games (FA Cup and Champions League are priced the same at United):

£950 + £364 (£52 x 7) = £1314

And cheapest (East Stand Lower):

£532 + £210 (£30 x 7) = £742

It will probably be a bit more because the further you get in the Champions League and FA Cup would mean you need to pay more but we'll exclude them as beyond 7 you would need to buy (but are not required to buy) tickets at Arsenal.

Actual price comparison:

Cheapest:

Arsenal: £985
United: £742

Most Expensive:

Arsenal: £1,955
United: £1,314

So yes. A lot more expensive but not quite the most expensive being cheaper than Arsenal's lowest price. ;)

I think it's worth pointing out it's largely product of the location. Spurs' prices are a lot closer than you would suspect:

Cheapest:

Arsenal: £985
United: £742
Spurs: £730

Most Expensive:

Arsenal: £1,955
United: £1,314
Spurs: £1,845

Which of course doesn't include Champions League games and only two cup games.

That said it is frustrating the prices at Arsenal are so high. They are amongst the highest in football. The board need to understand that if Arsenal don't buy world-class players then the fans resent paying world-class prices for their tickets. They do this because the other revenue streams are pretty rubbish at Arsenal. They were tied into long-term contracts for the shirt deal to help pay for the stadium when they could easily double that now. The commercial revenue is also pretty poor compared to United and Liverpool.

Diver maybe. Nasty and Dirty.. well I didn't think Roy Keane had been retired 10 years.

Premier League's leading all time goal scorer was a dirty player. Shearer led with his elbow everytime he jumped for a ball.

As for foreign cheats, yes there is plenty but Ashley Young has been the joke of England this season and made us look completely stupid.

Russ 23-05-2012 14:05

Re: Football Season 2011/12

Keane and Shearer may have been dirty but they were not divers. They did not intentionally get people sent off.

Young is an embarrassment to United at the moment, I'll never deny that. But the escalation of the whole culture of diving and getting people sent off in the PL seems to have coincided with the arrival of Dogbreath.

No - before Drogba arrived, it seems that the game had its cheats but no worse than anywhere else. Then it's like he came along and raised the bar for cheating. Then players who came from leagues where diving was prevalent (Spain, Italy etc) realised they could get away with it more, instead of abiding by our slightly-less respected rules.

He just comes across as a nasty, arrogant piece of work anyway. His outburst at the camera on Sky Sports and his subsequent forced apology didn't surprise me one bit.

Rooney has had outbursts on camera. Only difference is Drogba's outburst was somewhat understandable given the context.

England has long had cheats and dirty players. In fact for so long that's all we really had whereas players with technical ability were rare and had to cope with everyone else trying to kick them out of the game. A entire league of Stoke Citys. I think it's somewhat of a myth that we like to spread that we were above cheating or foul play. I don't think it's worse now. It's different now because we play a faster more nimble game so people falling to ground is more common and it's considerably easier to foul someone.

gazzae 23-05-2012 14:54

Re: Football Season 2011/12

You don’t like the man fair enough but to blame him for the escalation of the cheating and diving culture? Come on. Why not blame Robert Pires? He was in the league 4 years before Drogba.

Yes he can be a tool on the pitch but so what he is entertaining. Plus I have a lot of respect for what he does off the pitch.

I watched the rooney incident yesterday on tv, that he got banned for two games. That was nasty, and i still wonder how he only got two game ban. The authorities are too soft.

In fairness just about the whole of the Arsenal team in the early-to-mid 2000s were known for their cheating.

But Drogba was the complete package - a cheat AND an arrogant, nasty player. He set the standard.

In other news Arsenal have had a £3 million bid for Joe Allen turned down. OK we may be new to the Premiership but £3m for him is disrespectful. Next Wenger will be bidding £20m for Messi.

Thought this was interesting. Surprised Villa have the 2nd highest Wages V Turnover percentage. Man Utd have the lowest.

Joey Barton gets another 8 match ban and a £75,000 fine so that's him banned for 12 matches total..

That's nearly a third of the season, he can't expect to be paid during that time and QPR can't expect to of load him anytime soon either

The Sun is going to reveal a player at Arsenal or Spurs will be signing a new contract but it isn't RVP. I suspect it's Bale or Modric.

Update: Official confirmation of Romain Amalfitano's transfer to United appeared from SJP on Wednesday afternoon. He'll become a Magpie on July 1st when his current contract with Reims expires and a four year deal has been agreed. Squad number is tbc.

expect 2 or 3 more transfers in the coming days too.

guy reckons the squad will look like this next season.

Debuchy, Mbiwa Colo, Santon
Ben Arfa, Tiote, Cabaye, Amalfitano
Cisse, De Jong/Dost

Yeah we only had 2 regular English starters last season with them being Danny Simpson and Mike Williamson, those two will be on there way now with Simpson getting greedy.

He is good and as Pardew mentioned he wants a CB that can score 6-8 goals a season from set pieces, Steven Taylor is capable of that but I can't see him starting ahead of a new CB arrival.

For what he actually did that is harsh in my opinion. His name/reputation has got him that length of ban.

harsh? he kicked out after being sent off. i'm surprised QPR didnt get fined for failing to control their player.

Re: Football Season 2011/12

There appears to be a 'one rule for one, and one for another' in the Joey Barton situation.

Years ago what happened to the Barton situation would have been accepted, now we have to scenario with the Barton position, who gets a 12 match ban for what he did.

Yet John Terry is in court for a racism comment and yet is still playing, the farcical of the FA is saying that Barton has 'ruined the reputation' of the game.

What is more important to kick out racism in the great game of football or a punch up that happens in the game each week.

Some people might not not like what l have written, but the players of today would not survive in the days of Ron Harris or Vinny Jones - now they are the great days of people. Today the players go down feigning injuries to get players sent off.

More of a knee than a kick. I just think if it had been any other QPR player the ban would have been a lot less. I can't stand the bloke but being banned for nearly 1/3 of next season is very harsh for what he did in my opinion.

First red card: 3 games + 1 more because it was his second.

Kneeing the player in the back would get him another red card. So that's another 3 games plus 2 more because it was his third. So now we're at 9 games. Then he still refused to leave the pitch, touched heads with Kompany, and he is a prior history of such behaviour. All of that probably caused the FA to add the additional 3 games.

also may be because he didnt acknowledge what he done and said some pretty stupid things after. all of which he seems to stand by?

For once i have to agree with Arthur. The strangest thing i find is that suarez received an 8 match ban for allegedly saying something to evra pretty swift but terry is still playing the game and in the England team

Suarez admitted it whilst disputing the context. The police didn't get involved. Terry is denying the charge and the FA don't want to deliver a verdict whilst he is awaiting trial for obvious reasons.

Willl Terry face both a ban and fine as well as court (whatevers decided) if found guilty?

If found guilty then The FA will start their own proceedings.

Gonna look great isn't it if by some miracle we manage to win the thing and the there he is posing with the trophy, he won't be able to stay in the shadows he demands to be the centre of attention at all times and how many more players are we going to loose 'coz of him, that's two now.

If Suarez was worth eight Terry's will have to be more because he lied, thirty games in his case seems fair to me.
