Interesting. Are the new ones Samsung built or still Cisco?

Wonderfull Virgin Tec. just left. Fitted a new box and all now working okay.
As Tivo said there must be an installation fault and there was, even after fitting new box it would not work so Tech. had to go outside and make good a faulty connection.

Great to hear that in the end you have had a positive outcome to your installation problems.

If TiVo is giving so many people problems i think i won't bother upgrading to it yet until the rather annoying issues are resolved.

I think you will probably find they're very few people having problems, they're 220,000+ VM TiVos out there, they're bound to be people having problems just like with any complex product. Just like there are plenty of people having problems with V+s.

That's a very negative attitude. If we were all to adopt that view nobody would ever upgrade to anything new.:redcard:

I have three Tivo's in my house and I am perfectly happy with all three. The Tivo is a huge step forward in PVR technology. Those that are complaining are focusing on, in my opinion, very minor niggles.:Peaceman:

That's a fair point i suppose. What about the red button, does it support things like sky sports match choice yet as this is a service we do use on a regular basis.

If you use red button I would wait until there is parity with the V+.

Isn't the extra storage on a sky box taken up by its on demand service? You know, the one Virgin customers can access without any drop in storage capacity or broadband speed.

Meaning VM TIVO will record 120 hrs HD but due to Sky using Mpeg 4 their 1tb box will record 240 hrs HD. I suppose this will change with VM if they ever make the switch.

No as the Sky+HD 1TB is actually 1.5TB , 1TB for personal use and 500gb for Anytime.

I hope when the red button comes to TiVo it is more stable than it is on the V+ at times! In relation to mpeg4 it is only legacy STB that are holding VM back from switching?

Yes, we need everyone to be on TiVo, V HD or Samsung V+HD to make the switch.

That's great news, seems like its been in the pipeline forever. Can we expect the equally elusive TiVo iOS apps to lauch at the same time?

That would be a great Christmas present from VM. :D

Thanks DF, it's great having you and other VM staff around. :D

On a side note, they'd be zero point putting a dual core processor in the VM TiVo if they weren't any plans to utilise it.

WHAT????? Are you insane?

Virginmedia should keep TiVo as its working for them, but as a long term Sky subscriber I could not imagine anything worse. The Sky EPG is perfect as an EPG.

Of course I know that my views are because I'm out of touch with the latest tech and TiVo is too advanced for me, But I like it like that.

Couldn't help but laugh at the Sky comparison chart, three of TiVo's X's are service based, not STB related and three of the X's are coming soon on TiVo anyway leaving only the ownership X left.

Who knows?? I personally rarely used reminders on the V+ but I appreciate a lot of people used them and miss them on TiVo.

I guess if enough people feed back to VM about it then they might do something about it. I'm sure it was mentioned in the VM community support forum so hopefully your wish will be granted in the near future

Pretty much agree , from the recent surveys they've sent me they seem to be developing Sky Go further and increasing the functionality of their mobile apps I know there doing some kind of trialling the Sky+ app to access your planner , use as a remote etc and a multiroom DVR , however they're going to lose the race to VM here in my opinion.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Hello, I apologise if this question has been answered further down the thread but I am quickly asking the question on my phone and I didn't want to have to quickly search through.
I would like to know if it is possible to use the search and browse TV function to search on demand and catch up too?
I ask this because I am looking to purchase TiVo after the 15.2 update although when searching for Snow Patrol on my sisters TiVo yesterday, the only results I got were for shows on MTV Rocks and none of the music videos available on demand.

Thanks,
Matt.

So are there any plans for it to search MoD or is this seen as a TV search feature only.

Not checked for a long time, but I think MoD does have a search facility when you are in MoD but request here is to search all content irrelevant of source.

I've seen a USA demo of Tivo Premiere searching multiple content sources e.g. TV, Netflix, Blockbuster, etc but not sure it goes far as MoD or even if that type of service is available in the USA (Just don't know).

I was wondering the same , the TIVO premiere search feature enabling you to search amazon on demand , Netflix , Blockbuster OD and linear TV is amazing.

why is that?

tis a minor irritation because trying to find songsd is a pain.

even search by artist leads to every song in the list by each artist, very strange and time consuming.

But if you notice all of those are for TV programmes or Films not music videos

I don't think TiVo has the metadata to be able to search Music Videos at the moment

As an example you can set up a wishlist for Actor or Director, but not Singer or Composer

I get you , only a minor niggle I suppose , the search will be invaluable if services such as Netflix and Lovefilm get added.

Perfect Choice 14-11-2011 20:18

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

It is still an impressive search feature even without music and the lack of metadata make sense for now (wonder what spotify will do though since online can search their database by singer/group/album?).

If VM can activate that search capability when they reach agreements with the likes of Lovefilm, Netflix, etc, then they really do detach you from TV channels and into content delivery (and way ahead of Sky) and that is where I believe VM want to get to (don't care where the source is, just find what I want to watch).

I don't think the Tivo Spotify App has search, it can just access playlists you have set up on your computer or mobile.

You're on Basildon.

Incidentally, the area references is just the billing system number, and often doesn't indicate where you are. But handily you filled in your Location.

Spotify is going to be an app, so to start with will be standalone from the rest of the menus I expect

Although who knows what could happen in the future

Quick question does any old ntl/vm remote controls work with TiVo in relation to basic functions, channel changing etc? My dad loves his old blue NTL one, which the engineer left when we had our V+ installed.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

They do work but there are so many buttons missing that you pretty much have to use a TiVo one.

Just had a message on the tivo box saying update happening at 2am any day between 17th to 24th Nov.

Several people are receiving this message on Tivo foruma s well now so looks all go for the 15.2 update starting in 2 days time.

Where do you live? I am in Nottingham which should mean I am in the first group.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

I got the message too and I come under the Luton area.

Its a bit poor of them giving a timespan of a week and then saying any recordings planned for the time of the update will fail. Doesn't affect me but I don't know why they can't send an another message out the evening before your update is due, as surely by that point they will know if the update is going to go ahead or not.

It makes a change for Nottingham to get something first rather than last.

TiVo is very usable with a blue remote. Up/down/left/right/OK, CH+/-, numbers, i (browse) to record, guide for home, tv, colours, standby. What more do you need? :)

For new installs after 24th I'm presuming this software will be installed by the technician when he installs the box ?

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

It will automatically pick it up as part of the install, engineer won't have to do anything

Got it here in West London, I guess Media Boys dates look pretty accurate. So another message will be sent on the 25th to detail the new features so I guess the iPad app will be out any day after that.

Might be a few days later as it is Thanksgiving in the US and Apple usually put worldwide freezes on the App Store during holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas.

How long to wait?

How long does it take for the "go back" feature to work -coming up 48 hrs the day will go backwards but sticks at a single programme on ever channel.:dunce:

Received a message this morning to say that update will happen between the 17th-24th and it will happen at 2.00 in the morning and will last up to hour and also make sure you have no recordings at that time or else they will fail.

It takes a full week for the TiVo to be able to " go back" one one week. It cannot access programmes before it's install date.
