If I DOWNGRADE over the phone, can I UPGRADE online directly after?

No need to do that. Phone them and tell them you want to go from 3mb to 10mb and they should do it there and then, they did for me and I'm in your area ;)

I know the Linksys BEFSR41 v1 and 2 only had a 10Mb/s half-duplex WAN port and I guess anyone using a wireless B router via wireless can't get half of the rated speed - but what about actual perfomance with these and other routers?

I'm using it through a D-Link DI-624 (cabled, not wireless) and is full speed ahead.

I have found no speedtest has given me a full 10mbit, though downloading from multiple sources (say two dls at once from ms) I can get my full whack. So be aware.

For instance Robin Walker's speed test seems to give me 4980 or 5002 most times, so it looks like there must be some kind of something going on somewhere.

I have had the same problems. But, you do have to remember that there will be a vast amount of servers that don't actually 'have' 10mb connections, or have their bandwith to unique ip's throttled.

Is definitely 10mb here though, as shown in previous screenshot.

I do suggest using mirror.ac.uk to test.

Yeah, I had some strange results depending upon the site used for testing. I've been having a great time downloading stuff from http://gamefiles.blueyonder.co.uk/blueyondergames - I'm maxing out my connection with this at the moment :)

I am using the cheap wired Origo 4 port router it's 10/100 and working like a dream.

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)

I have NTL 3mb connection and in the northampton area, I have not yet recieved the upgrade, and am not expecting it for a long time due to the last year.

Until two months ago i had an on going fault with the green box at the end of my street, 5 engineers and 25 phone calls later its sorted...

So it leaves the question will my service be upgraded or will it be a disaster like the last year of service?

>> And Will my Linksys BEFSR41 have any issues with the 10mbit connection if it has the 10mb WAN port?

Many Thanks,

Mark

I've just been reading on another thread that people are slowly being upgraded to 10meg, though you have to phone NTL and ask them to upgrade you apperently. Then I checked the competition.

UK Online offering 24meg. £29.99
Be also offering 24meg. £24.00

NTL 10meg. £37.99?

Ok, so UK online and Be are ADSL2, but how long before NTL catch up?? Or drop their prices!!

On top of that, I have the sammy STB which nobody seems to know if it will handle 10meg.

Not sure if I'll bother asking for the upgrade now. :erm:

They may drop them slightly in April, but certainly not to £27.99

I thought that had been made clear now. As it stands the Samsung will do about 8 meg max.
