Expect you get SH2 if your SH goes faulty or you pay. Expect SH1 fault calls to to increase!

The government is planning to enforce isp's to rollout ipv6 in their desire to give every connected device its own ip address. The bad news of course planning and action could be many years apart so that may not be happening any time soon either.

I'm certainly not disagreeing with that at all, but we all know what Virgin's like - if it saves them money in the short term, they'll probably ignore it. And it's not like they're getting a lot of new customers these days to be worried about running out, either.

It may be designed to stand upright rather than flat, but is there any provision for it to be wall mounted?

The current SH can be supplied with a wall bracket, although these are apparently rarer than a golden goose, but wall mounting doesn't really work so well given the connectivity for leads from the side. SH2 seems to have connections only on the end so it could be fixed neatly to a wall and yet offer easy access to plug / unplug.

I don't think it would be practical for the SH2 to be wall mounted. The way the connectors are it wouldn't look good. With the SH1 it was good because the connectors are on the back so they would be hidden if it was wall mounted.

Also I believe the SH2 broadcasts it's signal out of both sides and the top - wall mounting it would risk blocking one of the signal directions

The SH 2 broadcast its signal best where the front lights are ... so where facing the leds lights is the best signal ;) perhaps with about 45 -60 degree better range ... than sides or backwards

... at least that what i am getting from my tests and if you move it slightly left or right can make difference (where facing the leds) in signal

When you look into the top, you can see the antennas. There is 3 on the top left and 1 on the top right so as Ben said, depending on which way you would wall mount it you would either block 1 antenna or 3.

Were there any rules in the trial not permitting you to open the device?

That would be covered by your general terms and conditions which prohibit you tampering with VM devices

I don't think anyone will be able to answer that although its a dead cert that 'someone' opened it up
