Mark Webber and his Red Bull team were in impressive form on the second day of Formula 1 pre-season testing in Jerez.

The Australian was the pacesetter throughout the day, producing a series of consistently fast laps out of the reach of the other 2012 cars.

Michael Schumacher set the fastest time of the day in last year's Mercedes.

Day one pacesetter Kimi Raikkonen was only fifth fastest for Lotus, while McLaren and Ferrari had another low-key day.

Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel and McLaren's Lewis Hamilton set closely matched times on the third day of the first pre-season test at Jerez.

Lotus driver Romain Grosjean set the pace for a 2012 car, with Vettel second just 0.167 seconds ahead of Hamilton.

The fastest time of the day was posted by Nico Rosberg's 2011 Mercedes.

Fernando Alonso had his first taste of the new Ferrari but spent the day on aerodynamic measurement work.

The Spaniard's fastest time was 1.145secs adrift of Vettel's.

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso set the fastest time on the final day of the first Formula 1 pre-season test.

A day after his team admitted they were "not happy" with their car, the two-time champion did two laps faster than anyone else managed on Friday.

Toro Rosso's novice Jean-Eric Vergne was second, just ahead of Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel, who lost the entire morning to an electrical fault.

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton was fourth fastest, 0.034secs behind Vettel.

Several MPs and Peers want the Bahrain GP cancelled, because of the unrest.

Quote from their letter to the Times newspaper.

Quote:

Given the current dire situation, with daily street protests and the deaths of more civilians, we do not believe that the time is right for Formula 1 to return to Bahrain
Also, Adrian Sutil is going to appeal against his conviction for GBH. The prosecutor is also going to appeal, saying the sentence was not strong enough. Sutil of course is without a drive this coming season as Force India replaced him. They said it had nothing to do with the court case, but I bet it did.

Maybe they can move the Bahrain GP to Dubai?

Russian Vitaly Petrov has replaced Italian veteran Jarno Trulli at Caterham for 2012.

Trulli, 37, was under contract to the team but has been dropped after a tough 2011 season and the arrival of Petrov with a substantial sponsorship package.

Because they have a race track and good infrastructure, they should have been the first place in the UAE to get a F1 Race, not Abu Dhabi!

Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel and McLaren's Lewis Hamilton were closely matched early on the first day of the second 2012 pre-season test.

After the first two hours' running at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona, the world champion was 0.208 seconds quicker than Hamilton.

Force India's Nico Hulkenberg later beat Vettel's time by half a second.

Michael Schumacher made a promising start in the new Mercedes to be fourth fastest after his first run at speed

Yep I know..

Brings back memories.. sitting in a Formula Ford on pole position at Kylami surrounded by TV cameras :D (Last time I was there I was grabbed as an extra for a TV show and ended up sat in a car in race overalls/helmet as I was the only one small enough to fit :D )

Mercedes nose looks like it's designed to penetrate the tyre barriers!!!!

Re: Formula 1 2012 Pre-Season

Maybe it s cunning plan to get a short cut while claiming it was an accident by going through the barriers. It does seem slope down very quickly.

As long as this season is a bit closer i'll be happy
