i think it's great that vm have gone to a 10mb standard
i think it's great that vm recognize that a larger bandwidth is needed in today's world
what i don't think is great is that when anyone dares to use the bandwidth that they say we need for video streaming,faster downloads and online games they are capped
i like vm and have few problems but i totaly disagree with upgrading to a 10mb standard when they havn't got the system in place to cope with it.I also disagree with the the 50mb untill they can get the 10mb and 20mb sorted to a standard that they don't need to cap heavy users

There is only one comparison for value and that is you.

If you are receiving a service and are happy with the service in terms of performance and price then that is al that matters.

There will always be someone who has a better deal - but that goes for everything, however standard prices do help but with companies offering deals to attract new customers it only goes further to widening the gap between new and existing users.

In my opinion this free upgrade is very good. I know many of us hate STM (including me) and I know that when we are upgraded to 10Mbit we will still be throttled.. but the thing is, the lowest speed we would get throttled to is probably 2.5Mbit/s. That is still faster our full connection speed that we have now! :)

Basically, for heavy downloaders, just think of it as slightly better speed than you have now without STM ;)

internetguy, you are assuming that the stm levels will be the same for upgraded customers, though if they're not I don't see the point in upgrading anyone. For the general browsing, emailing etc that the 2Mb user is only expected to do then 2Mb IS ample. I'm one of those 2Mb customers and, have to admit, I conform to this expectation. If VM's intention is to drive the "Connected Home" ideal then they must expect we will all start using our newly available bandwidth and get frustrated when we're STM'd. I believe, however, that this is no more than a marketing gimmick. I hope it won't come back to bite them in the backside but suspect like many recent upgrades it will.

With all due respect I doubt it.10MB will be the new 2MB.Everyone wanting speed will have moved on up already leaving us who browse and email with the odd download here and there, to be happy as Larry...:)

i agree Maggy J.

2 Mb is ok for us light users, but we have 2 laptops in our house and so having 10Mb available will make browsing etc snappier for everyone in the house. Also if its a solid 10Mb, it easily betters most connections around the UK on "up to 8Mb" who actually are getting 3 or 4 Mb. Its a smart move and secures my business.
