Can I just point out that nothing has been banned and no Muslims appear to have been involved in this blown out of all proportion farrago of innuendo. It may be pointed out before; if so, I apologise.

What actually happened was - Daily Telegraph
Dozens of companies submitted entries to the annual BETT awards, led by Becta, which heaped praise on a robot with 67 different manoeuvres, a computer program which allows children to recreate Jackson Pollock paintings and a game helping pupils to learn French. But Newcastle-based publishers Shoo Fly were shocked when judges told them that their interactive 3D book was unsuitable for children.

In a feedback form, Becta told the company: "Judges would not recommend this product to the Muslim community in particular."

I would not recommend Eastenders or Strictly Come Dancing in our house, but they aren't banned or offensive (OK, maybe they are offensive :D ).

Somehow "not recommending" became, in the following newspapers -
Daily Telegraph - story based on the Three Little Pigs has been rejected by a government quango in case it offends Muslims. (they also managed to sneak in a reference to Baa Baa Rainbow Sheep, just in case enough people weren't upset)
Daily Mail - A story based on The Three Little Pigs has been rejected by a Government-backed awards event because it might offend Muslims... and builders (love the ... between Muslims and builders)
Daily Express - A pop-up book based on a popular children's fairytale has been dismissed as "offensive to Muslims" by a Government agency.

I love the fact that putting a statement in quotation marks makes it ok to lie.

Definition of quotation marks from the dictionary -
"Either of a pair of punctuation marks used primarily to mark the beginning and end of a passage attributed to another and repeated word for word, but also to indicate meanings or glosses and to indicate the unusual or dubious status of a word"

If you looked a little harder, yes NZ supplies quite a lot of lamb slaughtered according to shariah law but that is for Muslim customers, it sure dont end up in Tesco's or my local butcher.

Oh and you obviously didnt read my post correctly because I didnt refer to any culture specificaly. I said why do we have to conform and intergrate ourselves into other cultures where other cultures (but not all members of that culture) dont want to intergrate themselves into our culture. We are being forced to conform to what others want by the small minded PC brigade and our wonderful :sick: labour government.

Due to the amount of Halal meat NewZealand produce, it's more economical for those Halal producers to only produce Halal meat, it saves on seperate storage facilities and the risk of cross contamination.
To non-muslims halal meat is just meat, so yes, a lot of the NewZealand lamb which arrives at Tescos or your local butcher is indeed halal.

We're not though. As I've said, by someone not doing something, it doesn't mean that you can't do it.
How does someone not selling alcohol prevent you from buying alcohol from someone who is selling alcohol?
When I was at college and worked in BHS, because I was under 18, I was not allowed to sell alcohol, another member of staff had to come over and complete the transaction. How is that preventing the buyer from purchasing alcohol considering the transaction was completed?
Please, do explain how someone not integrating with us means we have to integrate with them?

There's very little difference in how an animal is slaughtered under Jewish or Islamic laws. Infact Kosher meat is permissable to eat for Muslims as its slaughtered in virtually the same way. Kosher meat slaughter is a bit stricter than Halal, as, if I recall correctly, there has to be a Rabbii in attendance.

Theory: Most of the coverage of 'Muslim' issues is actually the planned Islamophobic propaganda from the red tops, faithfully regurgitated by those without a brain in their head and interspersed with the old touchstone phrases 'common sense', 'PC gone mad' and 'you couldn't make it up'. These are, in fact, the only people obsessed with the fantasy of a takeover of Britain by an odd combination of the Guardian and Islam. It's probably a medical condition.

Evidence - ginge51 and myself have five posts each in this topic:

ginge51 uses the word 'Muslim' or cognates 0+5+2+4+2 times in five posts, or 13 times in total

Myself: 2+0+1+1+2, or 6 times in total, despite writing much longer posts. This is because the story doesn't concern Muslims, and I was writing about the story. What ginge51 was writing about, perhaps he'd enlighten us?

All of which suggests that a) ginge51 and co. are more than twice as concerned with attacking Islam than I am defending it and b) in attacking a supposed 'white PC' conspiracy to defend Islam at any opportunity they're attacking something that doesn't exist. Hardly doing your cause much good, is it?

What does exist is an attempt to defend enlightenment, reason, individual freedom and evidence-based rational decision making. You know, traditional British values.

I could go on - another classic from Arthurgray50@blu who's dangerously close to being reported to the mods for subjecting the rest of us to passive bigotry and waves of people not reading the background and demonstrating again that when it comes to small-minded frightened passive-aggression the UK leads the world. Pathetic stuff.

I read what John Gaunt had to say about the 'Banning of the 3 Pigs" in his column in the Sun today. No mention of how muslims had nothing to do with it, deciding to choose words like fatwas, marches etc etc to sensatioanalise the story. I read someone here the other day asking if Islamaphobia is a real word. You dont have to read much further than columists like this to conclude that its very real.

I think as long as you start whatever you're gonna say with "Im not a racist but...." you should be fine to say whatever you want here.

To be fair I think a lot of people preface their remarks in that manner because of years during which anyone who dared to raise the immigration/race issue was branded a racist by those who didn't want to hear what was being said.

a) I'm British, and the British stand and fight for what's right
b) I live in London, which is unlike the rest of the UK anyway, as I've mentioned before. Suits me nicely.
c) I have lived abroad in the past, in Germany and Hungary. From this thread, I'm not the one who needs to get out and see the world.

and most importantly

d) The missus doesn't want to move outside W4, except to LA and I'm not bloody mad enough to do that.

I think more and more people dont think like this anymore, choosing to justify their stance by whats going on, say, in countries in Africa or the Middle East.

You hear more and more people using phrases such as "we dont have any (human) rights back in Tehran/Sudan/Saudi so why should we let them have them here" or "I can't practice my religion iin Saudi/Sudan/Iran so why should Muslims be able to hear the Azaan in Oxford" etc etc.

Both of which, as I wrote a couple of days ago, are the same as saying 'I don't want to live in a democracy any more'. It's toddler thinking and you don't have to dig very far to reveal contradictions. My current favourite is:

If we can't talk about Muslims for fear of upsetting them, because an all-powerful PC brigade is stopping us, why are we talking about Muslims all the time, usually in response to a negative story in the (Ex)press, which is clearly not being stopped from upsetting Muslims. Given the prevalence of psychological projection as a mental condition (where you put all your fears and secret desires onto an enemy, like all those repressed gay Republicans) perhaps they secretly want to live in a nice, safe totalitarian dictatorship?

Going back a bit, this is nothing new, the Greenham protestors used to be told to go and live in Russia by ranting right-wingers all the time - later we found that Reagan's posturing and missile waving had spooked the Soviets into considering a first strike, thinking that Ron was serious, so the wimmin had a point.

Anyway, what's wrong with Saudi Arabia? Monarchy, respect for religion and family, death penalty, low crime, no drunken louts - Daily Mail heaven.

The thing is, a lot of people (of all races and religions) for whatever reason find the sight of a naked woman offensive. Similarly, a lot of people find swearing offensive. Some are even offended by the thought that anyone would be looking at a naked lady.

Now, I personally would say that these things should be expected in some areas (builders, maintenance, plumbers or any office where there is a largely male population), and anyone who is likely to be offended should bear this in mind when applying for jobs in these places.

Now, I speak as someone who was given a verbal warning about his language in one job, after a woman (English, and as far as I know, not a muslim) complained.
