Re: NTL offering package to challenge talk talk

I got my monthly email from NTL and again the price was back to full price meaning the usual chasing up of rententions to reinstate my discount as there is no way it's worth £35 to me.

The bloke told me that they'd moved office and a lot of staff were made redundant from rententions (aka customer relations) in december and found difficulty in finding the notes re the deal I had agreed with them which was £10 for 10meg per month with no time limit.

Now the company has merged they aren't at the moment able to promise anything that'll extend to more than 3 months and insisted I had to ring back in 3 months when they'd reinstate my deal yet again. The bloke was very polite and told me that later in the year they will have some good deals - the standard retentions deal at the moment for 10meg is half price - ie. £17.99 a month.

If in 3 months they mess me around then I'll consider moving to the (almost) free sky broadband product.

Re: NTL offering package to challenge talk talk

I was looking to switch to the Sky 3 for £26 offer (actually 3 for £37 once you add the BT line rental) as £37 is much cheaper than the £51 NTL were charging me for more or less the same package.

I wasn't looking to play Retentions Roulette (honestly - I was all set to quit) but NTL have chopped my price down to £31 per month for a year. Sorry if this upsets some people, but I guess NTL figure it's better I pay them £372 a year rather than that money going to their competitors.

Anyone who got a discount from NTL needs to watch their bills even more closely than normal right now becasue of the recent price rises. You can pretty much guarantee that your discount will stay the same whlist the price goes up thus you won't be getting the deal you were promised

thats correct the price increase will effect everyone including people that are recieving a discount. but on the upside you can cancel within 30days of a price change so can go elsewhere

I'd say its more likely that any discounts applied will disappear and retentions will have "no record on your account of the offer we made last month..."

yeah, that's pretty much what I experienced when I phoned them. I have sky free broadband available now at my address so if NTL dont keep to the deal then I can get my BT line reconnected and get 'free' broadband from SKY. I'd prefer to stick with NTL though as cable broadband is superior.

:dozey:

Yes you're quite correct. What I was pointing out was that there may well be a double overcharge. E.g. one of my discounts has failed to appear again, but also i've got a slight overcharge on talk Unlimited 24 due t the refund on the bill not matching the price rise.

Anyway, I called to complain again as they failed to refund my overcharge from my last bill plus didn't fix any of the overcharges on this month's bill either.

They treid a new tactic of saying that now they are called Virgin all offers are no longer valid :Yikes: Fortunately the supervisor confirmed this was nonsense and they basically agreed the current system was not working. The good news is there will be new retentions offers at the end of February which should actually work and won't require you to phone up and have a big argument every couple of months.

Re: NTL offering package to challenge talk talk

Surprise Surprise, my bills are back to there old levels.

According to customer retentions, I do not exist on the system for the phone, even though I have next months phone bill!!!!

It appears that accounts have to finish in 01 to 09, though I have different account numbers!!!

Ah, I am on SMS, which has not been migrated, so the retentions person, after 10 minutes of trying to find me found out, which was news to him.

So I have to talk to 2 different people now, thats progress NOT

Re: NTL offering package to challenge talk talk

when you call through, if you were passed from CS they should have selected the correct department for your billing system, if you direct dialled when you put your phone number in it routes you through to the correct department, provided you put the right one in,

Why can't they just offer it on the website!? One wonders......

P.S. if some1 from retentions could list these other packages, presumably Bundle 1/2/4/5/6/.... ?;)
Oh, and can any1 tell me if u get a FREE WIRELESS ROUTER from VM. I have/had ntl. I know telewest customers got one :(

lostandconfused 08-02-2007 10:19

I think I may have to, as everything is a mess with all these discounts not being applied properly! Plus the broadband bill has STOPPED COMING! So i might just ask them to put me on one of these packs, so that I dont have to keep calling them, and also hopefully start getting a broadband bill!

Re: NTL offering package to challenge talk talk

RESULT!!!

confusing situation for me, but finally all sorted!

i got this:

Talk Unlimited (24 hour calling)
Talk International (cheap international calls)
Talk Mobile (Cheap mobile calls)
Line rental
Broadband Size: M (2Mb)
= £19.95 a month fixed with no need to keep calling back each month.

+ £11.50 for TV
+£8 for Star Plus

= £39.45

For LIFE!!!

She said that it is cheaper to give half price bband for 3 months, but u have to keep calling back. This maybe a bit more expensive, but its fixed.

I think this is a FAIR PRICE to pay VM, so dont start saying "u should pay full price" blah blah, because I have had my fair share of my probs too!

Code:

Thu, 15 Feb 2007 11:25:53 GMT

1st 512K took 2172 ms = 235.7 KB/sec, approx 1942 Kbps, 1.9 Mbps
2nd 512K took 2203 ms = 232.4 KB/sec, approx 1915 Kbps, 1.87 Mbps
3rd 512K took 2157 ms = 237.4 KB/sec, approx 1956 Kbps, 1.91 Mbps
4th 512K took 2140 ms = 239.3 KB/sec, approx 1972 Kbps, 1.93 Mbps
Overall Average Speed = approx 1946 Kbps, 1.9 Mbps

Thanks guys for your information. After noticing that I have been overcharged for some time now I called retentions and they have credited me back over £50 to my account and put me on the £19.95 package above (would have been £26.95 for 4MB broadband).

The slightly annoying bit is that I pay in two bits - £18 per month for BB and £1.95 per month for my phone. My £50 credit is on my phone bill so I'll be using up that credit till kingdom come! Still, I'm moving abroad in August, so I guess I'll get a cheque back then.

you wont have a cheque for a retentions credit. if you dont use it for calls it will be written off

Hi Lostandconfused,

I hope you're wrong about that as it's a lot to lose. It's really a refund of being overcharged and the retentions guy said that he could put me through to customer services to have a cheque arranged there and then. However, I'd been on hold for so long by that point I just wanted to get off the phone! Maybe this week I'll ring CS to try and arrange a refund cheque.

Well, lostandconfused, you're right - I spoke with billing (in India?) who couldn't generated a cheque but put me through to retentions (in the UK) again. Retentions spoke with the accounts department who told me that when I disconnect my number in August they will automatically generate a cheque for the remaining credit as they can't hold on to any credit that is rightly mine. So, phew, it won't get written off.
