Spotlight TV has officially ceased broadcasting. A new channel called Music & Memories has taken its place on ChannelBox (Freeview 271) with similar content. There is also an Irish Country music evening every week in a Monday on Channel 7 TV that features programmmes that used to be broadcast on Spotlight. This can be found on Vision TV (Freeview 264) or on Sky channel 182.

Are there any spare 24 hour Freeview slots available?

I ask because it's believed that Christmas24 will be going FTA on 1 November.

I'm wondering if it will stay FTA after Christmas, but this business model usually means that the channels also join Freeview.

What I said was a sweeping generalisation of my recollection of my many years watching developments regards TV in UK. I can only give a gut gist, I can't give specifics, it was simply my immediate reaction to it.

Sorry I can't give you a more specific answer Richard.

Re: Freeview changes

Due to today changes on Freeview:

*Freeview has NO room to launch any more new channels unless they make a bid to use Together TV slot on COM4/SDN.

*No broadcaster wants a Slot on SDN that has been open to any broadcaster since June 2022 so SDN has given it for FREE to Together TV.

Here is today changes in full:

Information from UK Terrestrial TV:

*NOW 80s has been delisted from Manchester TV Network on Ch. 77.
*Clubland TV has been delisted from Manchester TV Network on Ch. 80.
*NOW 90s has been delisted from Manchester TV Network on Ch. 87.
*Together TV has moved from ch 83 to ch 92 on COM5 and changed to Together TV+1
*Together TV has been added to COM4 on ch 83
*RealityXtra 2 has been added to COM4 on ch 69
*Pet Collective has been added to COM4 on ch 278

There's bound to be another change on the way because RealityXtra 2 being on a Main multiplex whilst RealityXtra is on the Local multiplex makes no sense.

Base on my EPG - Reality Xtra 2 is only broadcasting 14 hours a week.

So it look like AMC is using Reality Xtra 2 to keep Channel 69 open for it to sell.

Who may bid for channel 69?

*UKTV Media Ltd for Dave ja vu with Yesterday +1 moving to channel 74.
*ITV Network Ltd for ITV4 +1 (Moving from channel 89.)
*A&E Television Networks UK for Blaze +1 (Moving from Channel 81)
*Earth Day Texas for EarthxTV (Moving from channel 79)
*Talking Pictures TV Ltd for Talking Pictures TV (Moving from channel 82)
*Media Trust for Together TV (Moving from Channel 83)
*PBS UK for PBS America (Moving from channel 84)
*Hochanda Global Ltd for Create and Craft (Moving from Channel 85)
*That's Television Ltd for Classic Hits UK (Moving from channel 88)

But saying that Channel 69 stop broadcasting in June 2022 - that was over 12weeks.

As far as I know after 12weeks a freeview slot left free goes to a other broadcaster.

So I do not know what in hell is going on.

---------- Post added at 18:41 ---------- Previous post was at 18:37 ----------

For all we know AMC deal with Local Mux is up soon and Reality Xtra may use slot.

Any more left on Freeview? Yes.

DBR is reporting that COM4/SDN has got unusing 1.4Mb/s that enough for:
*COM4/SDN has room to launch up to 10 streaming channels.
*COM4/SDN has room to ONE more SD 24 hour channel.

DBR is reporting that BBC B/PSB3 has got unusing 8.4Mb/s that enough for:
*BBC C/PSB3 has room to launch BBC News HD and up to 2 SD channels.
*BBC C/PSB has room to SIX more SD 24 hour channels.

DBR is reporting that COM4/SDN has got unusing 1.4Mb/s that enough for:
*COM4/SDN has room to launch up to 10 streaming channels.
*COM4/SDN has room to ONE more SD 24 hour channel.

All rest of streams on Freeview are full bar BBC A.

*S4C can move to BBC A in Wales to let E4 launch on SDN in Wales.
*Then E4 can move to SDN in Wales to let GREAT! movies action launch on Freeview in Wales.

All views on this post are my views.

Mike has confirmed to me The BBC Information Channel will appear on Freeview on November 23rd.

RXTV is reporting that Quest Red +1 will close on November 23rd on Freeview Channel 71

But Alaraby Network will launch on Freeview at same time on channel 279

https://rxtvinfo.com/2022/quest-red-...eeview-changes

Here are my own views:

With Quest Red +1 only launching on COM6 on June 30th 2022 - are WBD set to reuse Quest Red +1 slot for one of a following channels:

*Quest is broadcasting on COM4 right now
*Quest +1 is broadcasting on COM5 right now
*Really is broadcasting on COM5 right now
*Quest Red is broadcasting on COM5 right now
*Food Network is broadcasting on COM5 right now

Quest Red +1 has an on-screen message about the +1 closure, and it's on Freeview's website too, so it's more that RX now.

The only reason for inconveniencing their viewers with a move I can envisage is if it makes more sense financially for all their channels to be with the same multiplex owner. In which case, Quest would move from COM4 to COM6.

Will the then called Discovery did buy that COM4 slot for Quest in late 2008 ahead of it launch in September 2009.

But Discovery or SDN has ever reveal how long is the deal for Quest to be on SDN runs for.

Digital Spy did report on January 6th 2009 that Quest did appear on SDN.

Discovery was set to launch Quest in May 2009 but it was postphone on it launch date until September 2009.

According to kjhskj75 on Digital Spy a hidden version of Ch799 on Freeview says this

"Good News!

You do not need to make any changes to continue viewing BBC services

on this equipment.

We would recommend separately checking all satellite reception

equipment you use by tuning to channel 799."

This is bound to change since that's clearly meant for Satellite not Digital Terrestrial.

BBC Information Channel added on Ch 799.

Heart (Ch 728) has moved to COM5 from COM4

Quest (Ch 12) has moved to COM6 from COM4.

Re: Freeview changes

Who may get Freeview Channel 57 after Smithsonian Channel closes on January 5th/6th?

*Narrative Capital Partners LLC - due to GREAT! movies, GREAT! tv and GREAT! romance channels being below Channel 57 on Freeview.

*ITV Network Ltd - for ITV4 +1 to sit beside ITV3 and ITVBe +1 channels on Freeview.

*Warner Bros. Discovery - for Quest +1 to move up to higher Freeview slot.

*Gemporia Ltd - for Jewellery Makeror HobbyMaker to move up to higher Freeview slot.

*A&E Television Networks UK - for Blaze to move up to higher Freeview slot.

*CBS AMC Networks UK Channels Partnership - for CBS Reality or RealityXtra to move up to higher Freeview slot.

*That's Television Ltd - for That's TV UK to move up to higher Freeview slot.

*Earth Day Texas - for EarthxTV to move up to higher Freeview slot.

*Talking Pictures TV Ltd - for Talking Pictures TV to move up to higher Freeview slot.

*Media Trust - for Together TV to move up to higher Freeview slot.

*PBS UK - for PBS America to move up to higher Freeview slot.

*Hochanda Global Ltd - for Create & Craft to move up to higher Freeview slot.

I think PBS may do a deal with Paramount to get a 24 hour slot - then give it old slot to Together TV +1 after all Smithsonian Channel do timeshare with Together TV +1 right now on COM5.

Rumour: UKTV on the move on Freeview from January 6th.

Paramount has sold Smithsonian EPG slot on Freeview (Channel 57) to UKTV for Dave ja vu to move from Freeview Channel 74 on January 5th. [1]

When watching Dave ja vu the on-screen message appeared saying you will have to retune on that date. [2]

If Paramount has also given UKTV it broadcasting slot we may see YESTERDAY +1 going full time on Freeview.

Where do UKTV broadcast on Freeview right now;

SDN/COM4:
*Dave ja vu
*Drama

COM5:
*Dave
*Drama +1
*Yesterday +1 (5am - 7am)
*Smithsonian slot (7am - 3am) - New slot from Jan. 5th?

COM6:
*W
*Yesterday

UKTV are telling viewers to retune to carry on viewing Dave ja vu from Jan. 5th - what may happen (here is my own view):

*YESTERDAY may move to Dave ja vu slot on COM4.
*Dave may start using Smithsonian slot - it works broadcast wise.
*W may move to Dave COM5 slot.
*Dave Ja Vu may start using W slot on COM6.
*Yesterday +1 may start using Yesterday slot on COM6.

Re: Freeview changes

MB there's been no indication that the changes to the Welsh D3&4/PSB2 multiplex have been applied anywhere else. The changes to BBCA/PSB1 for BBC Scotland were eventually applied everywhere, but the key word is "eventually". And it doesn't mean the same will happen in this new circumstance. They may have decided to only apply it to Wales-serving D3&4 transmitters in this instance.

Sorry for getting back early but I just found where ITV/Channel 4 found the room to add E4 in Wales to D3/4:

It was as followed:
Look like D3&4 has only cut some channels Mb/s to add E4 in Wales on D3&4 so they CAN launch a UK Wide channel outside Wales if they wanted to.

Wales
PID null: 1.5Mb/s
DATAS & Audios: 4.8Mb/s
Channel 5: 1.8Mb/s
E4 +1: 1.2Mb/s
SC4: 1.5Mb/s
Channel 4 +1: 1.4Mb/s
E4: 1.5Mb/s
More4: 1.2Mb/s
Film4: 1.5Mb/s
Channel 4: 1.6Mb/s
ITV1 +1: 1.3Mb/s
ITV4: 1.7Mb/s
ITV2: 1.2Mb/s
ITV3: 1.1Mb/s
ITV1: 1.8Mb/s

London.
PID null: 0.5Mbs
DATAS & Audios: 4.3Mbs
Channel 5: 1.4Mbs
E4 +1: 1.6Mbs
Channel 4 +1: 1.4Mbs
E4: 1.9Mbs
More4: 1.5Mbs
Film4: 1.8Mbs
Channel 4: 1.8Mbs
ITV1 +1: 1.5Mbs
ITV4: 2.0Mbs
ITV2: 1.3Mbs
ITV3: 1.3Mbs
ITV1: 1.7Mbs

So to find the room to have E4 and it audio on D3&4 you will see from the list Mb/s has been cut from E4 +1, More4, Film4, Channel 4, ITV1 +1, ITV4, ITV2 and ITV3:

When you take away the list Mb/s in Wales it comes to 2.0Mb/s needed to broadcast E4 and it audio.

Wales > London. (Wales has lost/gain)

*PID null: 1.5Mb/s > 0.5Mbs (+1.0Mb/s)

*DATAS & Audios: 4.8Mb/s > 4.3Mbs (+0.5Mb/s)

*Channel 5: 1.8Mb/s > 1.4Mbs (+0.4Mb/s)

*E4 +1: 1.2Mb/s > 1.6Mbs (-0.4Mb/s)

*SC4: 1.5Mb/s
*Channel 4 +1: 1.4Mb/s > 1.4Mbs

*E4: 1.5Mb/s > 1.9Mbs (-0.4Mb/s)

*More4: 1.2Mb/s > 1.5Mbs (-0.3Mb/s)

*Film4: 1.5Mb/s > 1.8Mbs (-0.3Mb/s)

Channel 4: 1.6Mb/s > 1.8Mbs (-0.2Mb/s)

*ITV1 +1: 1.3Mb/s > 1.5Mbs (-0.2Mb/s)

*ITV4: 1.7Mb/s > 2.0Mbs (-0.3Mb/s)

*ITV2: 1.2Mb/s > 1.3Mbs (-0.1Mb/s)

*ITV3: 1.1Mb/s > 1.3Mbs (-0.2Mb/s)

*ITV1: 1.8Mb/s > 1.7Mbs (+0.1Mb/s)

I was going to post this earlier but the forum wasn't loading for me.

I noticed it on a local version of the mux on DigitalBitRate the other day and a516digital is saying it's elsewhere too.

https://twitter.com/a516digital/stat...02518334296065

It doesn't mean everyone outside Wales is getting a new channel on this multiplex as the BBC did the same on PSB1 (aka BBCA) when they made space for the BBC Scotland channel. It's sat empty everywhere else.

And London was one of the last areas to be upgraded.

What may launch on the D3&4 on that new slot outside Wales:

May launch:
1) ITVBe - ITVBe do broadcast on SDN but do broadcast on D3&4 in Channel Islands.
2) E4 Extra - from COM5
3) Film4 +1 - from COM5
4) 4Seven - from COM5
5) 4Music - Relaunch
6) More4 +1 - Relaunch

Will not move:
1) CITV do broadcast on ITVs SDN
2) ITV2+1 do broadcast on ITVs SDN
3) ITV3+1 do broadcast on ITVs SDN but may move to D3&4 and becomes fulltime
4) ITV4+1 do broadcast on ITVs SDN but may move to ITV3+1 old slot starting at 9pm
5) ITVBe+1 do broadcast on ITVs SDN

If space is used outside Wales it will be for something non-core as otherwise there would be another Wales anomaly for a core service.

So it would likely be ITV4+1 since it onl has a very short and useless overnight allocation. ITV3+1 has a schedule that matches nicely with CITV which it shares stream with so I can't see ITV3+1 taking it.

If a C4 channel takes it it'll be a +1 or 4Seven since the latter is basically a timeshift in another guise.

I don't think any service will use it having said all that. It'll be like what happened with BBCA/PSB1 all over again.

I still feel S4C may move over to BBC A sometime this year due to the following:

A) Since April 2013 a funding for S4C was transferred to the BBC.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S4C_Authority

B) The BBC is not using the broadcasting slot outside Scotland [Slot being use in Scotland for BBC Scotland Channel).
C) S4C is on BBC iPlayer
D) S4C HD to timeshare with CBBC HD in Wales on Freeview.

If S4C was going to go to BBCA D3&4 probably wouldn't have been reconfigured in my opinion. Unless the reconfiguration isn't about S4C but something about ITV's or Channel 4's DTT strategy, and more likely the former if that's the case since they own SDN/COM4.

I think some BBC rules regarding BBCA's use would need to change for to S4C to use it anyway, and as far as I'm aware they haven't.

Sorry I did think E4 +1 was on SDN.

My source did only say: E4+1 changes tomorrow.

kjhskj75 did post on DS Forum that E4+1 "Reduction in coverage".

As E4 +1 is on D3&4 right now so E4 +1 is moving to BBC B (Only on Freeview HD) or SDN (Old Quest slot)

---------- Post added at 18:42 ---------- Previous post was at 17:39 ----------

Changes on Freeview from January 25th:

*E4+1 on Channel 30 will be moving from D3&4 to a unknown mux - on Reduction to coverage so I think E4 +1 will move to BBC B (E4 +1 will only appear if you can get ITV1 HD) or SDN (Quest old slot)

*Together TV +1 will not close now on Channel 92.

Well I can now envisage E4Extra moving to D3&4 the following week.

Maybe one of Channel 4 deals are up with COM5 and are looking to save money on running cost:

Here is where Channel 4 own Channels are on Freeview:

Channel 4 - D3&4
Channel 4 +1 - D3&4
E4 - D3&4
E4 +1 - D3&4
Film4 - D3&4
Film4 +1 - COM5
More4 - D3&4
E4 Extra - COM5
4seven - COM5

*Freeview web site says E4+1 will be "Reduction in coverage" from today - so that may mean E4 +1 is moving to that new slot on D3&4 and will no longer broadcast in Wales or moving to BBC B who has got 11.8M/bs doing nothing.

Together TV +1 has moved from COM5 to COM6 and it broadcasting hours has move from 2am to 6am to 5am to 8am. But stays on Channel 92.

And is now timesharing with Jewellery Maker and PBS.

Together TV +1 old COM5 slot has now moved to Channel 790.

That's 60s or That's TV UK now 24 hours? (To be confirmed)

Both GREAT! Romance and GREAT! tv are broadcasting from the local mux.

Today's Freeview Changes:

ITVBe (D3&4) has moved from Channel 791 to Channel 17.*
ITVBe (SDN) has moved from Channel 17 to Channel 792.*

ITV has today reveal that CITV channel will close in early Autumn.

*ITV2 to start broadcasting Kids programmes again since 2004 in the mornings. (GMTV2 did broadcast on ITV2 before moving to ITV4 with it launch in 2004.)
*Will ITV use the old CITV timeshare slot with ITV3 +1 to launch ITV3 +1 on Freeview full time?

It might increase the chances of COM4 switching to DVB-T2 with no core ITV services left on it.

Also it will make SDN with three and a half unuse slots.

Now we know why CITV was not rebranded last year or did not move to D3&4 to timeshare with ITV2 +1 for.

Pretty sure that ITV will use the vacated space to make ITV3 +1 24/7 on Freeview.

.

With really short versions of ITV4+1 and ITVBe+1 on that stream currently, I wouldn't be surprised if they made those longer.

As I understand it, the C&M infrastructure has been ready for some months. In fact, the old C&M setup has been repurposed to bring the BBC HD regions to satellite.

Many of the regions now have an alternative SID number for the new regionalised BBC ONE HD, which is a good indication of how far work has progressed. Some regions still having the SID number for the main region in the existing, ITV based, macro region, indicating that more work is needed.

Although the old TSIDs are still being used, some with the same ID are carrying different data, so the multiplexes have been split. Maybe Wednesday's changes will also involve renumbering the TSIDs. When the new TSIDs are known, it will be a good indication of how well the new infrastructure will allow for the correct ITV 1 HD regions to be added at a later stage.

The London region will now out of sync with the BBC house style for SID numbering. The SID currently used for the England-wide BBC ONE HD service has been 17540 which, following BBC house style, should be the SID number for a London regional service. It appears that the new regional service for London has now been issued with SID 17536 - under the BBC house style, that would be the SID number for a UK wide service. SID 17599 would have been the correct number for an England-wide service. It will be interesting to see if this anomaly is corrected but it is, by no means, critical.

Wednesday's changes should be quite revealing.

A little late to get back to this but the TSIDs did, indeed, change. From the information available the numbering has followed the BBC house style. Still no information about TSID numbering for the sub-regions (Sheffield, Gloucestershire, Shropshire etc). The DBR scanner used for west midlands areas seems to have inconveniently gone offline just before the changes. That info should be an indication of how well prepared the new infrastructure is for adding the correct ITV regions. London kept the correct TSID region with BBC ONE HD taking the UK-wide default number for the SID. Unavoidable, I suppose, as the London default number is still being used for the red screen version in areas still awaiting conversion. It would probably have been better to convert London in the last batch but the changes seem to have concentrated on getting the more densely populated areas of England converted first.

Shropshire still hasn't been updated (on DBR) but Gloucestershire is using the West Midlands TSID, so BBC B hasn't been subdivided in the same way as BBC A. It would be nice to know what is being used in Sheffield (as it would take a different version of ITV) but, since Sheffield & Bilsdale became co-channel, both are now difficult to check.

Can't see it happening. They shut one of their channels on Freeview clearly to save money. Unless the price of DTT broadcast has changed significantly in the last year due to no takers for the remaining streams, I can't envisage it happening.

Having said that, it might explain the RealityXtra2 "placeholder" at 3am to 5am on the Together stream. https://www.xhxf.uk/timeshares/

Maybe there was a Save Money Now, Reassess in the Future strategy going on?

Or maybe they couldn't get the deal they wanted, so we're holding out to see who would blink 1st for lower carriage fees??

Spare capacity hanging around fir a time is bound to decrease prices as less fees are better than no fees!

I would have think the THREE SDN slots WOULD BE full up by now:

*ITV put ITV3 +1, ITV4 +1 and ITVBe +1 on a weekly basis - until other broadcast wants to join Freeview or move from other stream.

or

*Do the deal with Channel 4 for 4Music, 4Seven and E4 Extra (E4 Extra can easy fit into Together TV slot on SDN) to launch/move. With Channel 4 reusing COM5 with More4 +1 and Channel 4 give Together TV a slot until Channel 4 deals are up with COM5.

Only my view due to SDN being own by ITV.

Sheffield is using the same TSID as Emley Moor, so no special arrangements to allow it to carry the correct ITV1 HD region. Sheffield should take Yorkshire - Calendar South with Emley Moor taking Yorkshire - Calendar North. All academic at the moment as both will continue to take the Granada HD Macro region for the foreseeable future.

The thing is, ITV bought SDN as an extra revenue stream. They can make more money by leasing the slots to other channels. Maybe there are contracts in place for broadcasters to take the slots when their contract with Arqiva expires. If the slots are vacant for a long period, ITV would benefit from putting their own timeshift channels on SDN full time and bring in extra advertising revenue. It's a complicated balancing act.

unknown at time of posting on what way happen to Together TV on SDN - Move to a new unuse slot* or close.
