MTV OMG has launched on channel 318.

Channel AKA (previously available via the AATW app on channel 345 and in Apps & Games) has been withdrawn.

Clubland TV continues with Now 80s & Now 90s both also available via the app.

Interesting Article - Sky brings Netflix on board from BBC website

The satellite broadcaster will allow viewers to watch Netflix shows on its Sky Q platform later this year.

Customers will pay for Netflix as part of their Sky bill, although prices have not yet been announced.

Are VM waiting to announce something similar with Amazon??

Yikes, how embarrassing for VM, so often the last one to secure new channels.

In fairness, that's because they're a closed network.
But that's still no excuse for not having FreeSports by now.

Have to agree - it is on other providers as a non-subscription channel.

All the more reason to upgrade to the V6!

One problem is that the V6 is the only box which requires VM's broadband to work, and not everyone has it.

Quote:

Originally Posted by Horizon (Post 35939426)

Sky's new IPTV service is an interesting development, but it is deeper than that for me.

I have been saying for a while that I am concerned about the lack of quality viewing on the non-premium pay TV channels. Although there are one or two good things to watch, you have to look hard to find them because they are few and far between. The only recordings or on demand viewings I will access this week from Sky's own non-premium channels are Mosaic (Sky Atlantic), Save Me (Sky Atlantic), The Blacklist (Sky One), Here and Now (Sky Atlantic), The Good Doctor (Sky Living), Jamestown (Sky One), Britannia (Sky Atlantic), and there's also The Walking Dead on Fox.

Now most of these are lukewarm at best (I would not bother with them if my wife didn't want to see them), and you will note that four out of the eight programmes are on Sky Atlantic, which is not available on the Virgin platform.

So the value to me of these channels is not particularly great and so if the situation gets much worse, I may well abandon these channels in the future and simply watch the films pack on Now TV.

However, there are other factors too which will inform my thinking. Virgin's content may well be bolstered soon with Sky Atlantic (enabling me to cancel my entertainment pass with Now TV) and VM's own exclusive content will start to make a difference in the choices we have. This could be significant if the choices were good ones. I have been enjoying 'Good Behaviour' and I have bookmarked other shows from the Virgin Exclusives. If they continue to add and bolster their content in this area, that will be a significant factor in keeping me with Virgin.

Finally, I will be looking at new streaming apps being added to the system. If Virgin finally secured Amazon, that would ensure that all the content I watch can be searched from my V6 box, and that would also be significant for me. However, I would like to see much more choice of streaming services on the V6, and if Sky offered that but Virgin didn't, that would definitely make me consider my options.

So there are lots of factors involved, and when things become clear on which way VM is going, I will make the decision on whether to stay or go.

I have already cancelled my Sky Cinema package with Virgin, by the way, because I watched all films from Sky's offering through on demand to save space for other recordings but too many of these are shown in standard definition only. So I have taken out the movies pass on Now TV instead. Currently, everthing is shown in the lowest level of HD (720p) but that is much better than standard definition (I have a 49" screen).

So to answer the question, I have already cancelled my Sky Cinema sub with VM and I am biding my time before I make any further moves. I would prefer to stay with VM rather than go to Sky but I will continue to monitor the position. And if the choice on Sky's non premium channels gets much worse, I may decide to go Freeview, Now TV films pack, Netflix and Amazon. Unless of course, Virgin come up with a good choice of exclusives (especially if they are in UHD!).

My understanding is that you would still have to pay Now TV for your pass as that is the way that it works with Netflix on VM.

I don't disagree, although things can change. Isn't Sky seeking to bring Netflix into their packages, the same way as they will be doing for BT Sport?

Maybe they are waiting for the HD version. The channel in standard definition does not look great.

In the meantime, anyone without an aerial desperate to see Freesports can view it on the TV Player.

I know that l whinge about VM. At the end of the day, its US that end up paying for a second rate Tv cable company.

I cannot persuade my wife to ditch VM altogether. I have got so fed with price increases, There promise of 'to give the customer the value for money'

While their directors lap up free lunches and playing golf all the time.
When they asked us what we want - we don't get it.

They put on tv channels that most people don't want. We have been offered SA so many times by Sky. But, VM have said that its too expensive.

Freesport - is a FREE TO AIR CHANNEL, and VM still don't have it. It doesn't matter if contracts are with another company - Premier Sports.

All directors have to do is sit round a table and thrash a deal out.

The VM sales team were out in force today in Hounslow. When they asked me, l said ' my wife said we are with VM already. I said, the sooner it goes the better. Instead of saying, why ?, can we get you a better deal to stay' the guy walked away. And said 'never mind'

Some company reps try there best to keep customers. But l think customers will simply walk away from VM, after April - when l believe prices are going up again.

And then in six months, they will do the same again.

And especially, if its true that Sky will go down the same road and get cables. Like it said in the press.

What makes you think Sky's wired service will carry FTA channels automatically. These channels currently only pay Sky for an EPG listing. Something here is making me think Sky are heading for a hybrid service with this offering, supplemented by either Freeview or a dish.

Now TV provide FTA channels, so I don't see why the Sky internet TV system won't. In fact, it won't be such an attractive proposition without it.

The big question really is whether the Sky internet TV service will be on demand/streaming only. I don't think it will be (at least at this stage) but I wouldn't rule it out either.

Having said that, Sky make too much money from advertising on their channels, so my bets are on a live tv option being very prominent on their UI, at least for the next decade.

Base on info we have seen on the ofcom web site it look like Viceland are broadcasting on Sky with no licence.

---------- Post added at 23:45 ---------- Previous post was at 23:39 ----------

Also 8 Sky Sports HD Channels - bar Sky Sports Mix HD and Sky Sports News HD - was removed from the Virgin Media UK EPG last night on both V HD and V+ HD Boxes.

They are only on TiVo or V6 boxes now.

EPG Now goes like this on V HD or V+ HD boxes:

445. Talking Pictures TV
509. Sky Sports News HD

My watchlist includes Madam President, Startup, Hand of God, Animal Kingdom and Goliath, but there's loads more on the list which I will struggle to get through! The Evening Standard: Ofcom to consider Russian news channel RT's licence.

Media watchdog Ofcom is set to review Russian news network RT's British broadcasting licence following developments in the Salisbury poisoning investigation.

Russia Today is broadcasting on Virgin Media Ireland at time of posting.

Can I ask:

A) Why has 8 Sky Sports HD Channels been removed from all non TiVo or V6 boxes for?

B) Why cant Virgin Media move all red button channels on Channel 344 (NOW 80s and NOW 90s) and all Worldbox channels onto their own channel number on TiVo and V6 boxes.

A) The carrot to incentivise customers onto the V6 is the offer of a free box, the drip drip removal of channels from legacy boxes is the stick. There are no technical reasons why this had to be done.

B) It's cheaper for the broadcaster.

We think it under 30% (And that being fair) of them who have Sky Sports in.

I clearly think that should be the case. Placeholders like YouTube, Netflix, VEVO and hayu should remain as shortcuts from the homepage. If VM adopted NTL's negotiation team from Day 1, we'd have so many more channels and apps available.

I don't think that this will affect VM viewers (unless RT is on VM in NI.)

I was under the impression that only the Tivo and V6 could do H264 which Sky Sports HD channels are now being shunted to.

Samsung V+HD & Cisco VHD boxes can decode MPEG4 without problems, so this is not the issue. In fact all HD channels on VM have now converted to MPEG4, not just Sky Sports. I just get the feeling VM want to dump the outdated Liberate interface these boxes depend on ASAP.

A516Digital is reporting that the new BBC Scotland Channel will have an HD Channel from launch.

https://www.a516digital.com/2018/03/...-to-go-hd.html

Bizasia is reporting that ZEE Punjabi is to be replaced with Living Foodz on Sky from March 26th.

Bizasia says "Despite this, ZEE Punjabi will continue broadcasting on Virgin Media as per normal." But Media Boy HQ have seen on our TiVo box that ZEE Punjabi are being listed as "To Be Announced" from 6am on March 26th on Virgin UK Channel 812 at time of posting.

Hopefully the BBC Scotland programming, including their Tartan version of the news, will be available to English viewers on the BBC i-Player, as we won't be getting the live version of the channel.

You have BBC ALBA and S4C on UK Wide Virgin Media so you have to wait and see.

With all the BBC regions available live on the BBC iPlayer app on TiVO/V6 I can't see it ever happening. The only thing you lose with the regions not on the EPG is the ability to record, & the regional programmes are usually available on catch-up within an hour of broadcast.

PS. If you change the region setting on the iPlayer the alternative BBC2 programmes should also be available.

Which wouldn't be so bad if the programmes didn't disappear after 30 days.

I would suggest it's because they don't have enough sporting events to show and it probably saves them money too

Soccer AM and that "talk about the Sunday papers" show broadcast on some channels as well.

And what is the point of Sky Sports Main Event?

Some sky packages have a limited number of the sports channels - main event is one of these channels - I presume the idea is to entice people to upgrade to all sports channels when they view things they wouldn't normally get.

According to the BT website you also get Sky Sports Xtra with Main Event - for £27 pm & £6pm extra to get them in HD.

Total rip off imho.

Yeah and people on here slate Virgin Media's negotiation team. The current deal between BT and Sky for SKY Sports is a stinker. It'll be all change in about 8 months but until then their customer's are getting 💩 for the price of gold.

Thames Valley (Wokingham, near Reading).

Base on raw information we saw the few weeks back they was the high number of Known bugs that Virgin Media was trying to fix.

We cant reveal the full list.

Sounds like VM is the same as Sky - never release known error list (that way you can deny knowledge of errors when customers ring up)

Why can't companies be honest,

1) have a centralised list of known bugs that people can view
2) indicate which are actively being worked on
3) indicate when a fix is being released - even if it is say 3-4 months

If we was Sky we would rebrand Sky Sports Main Event as Sky Sports Extra and cut back on the number of live sports Sky need to put on the Red Button.

As far as we known you can only get Sports Main Event if you have the Sky Sports package in (re all Sky Sports channels).

We are talking about Sky and Virgin Media viewers.

I can sympathise with that view - it would indeed be interesting, and if there was an annoying bug, you would at least see it on the list and know that it had been picked up.
However, the downside for Virgin Media would be that the usual suspects would be claiming compensation for problems they may otherwise not have noticed, when a fix is delayed, people would be ringing up to vent their spleens and complain about the delay to the original timetable, etc. I think VM believe that it is better not to say anything and hope that most of these problems won't even be noticed.

ITV Encore cease broadcasting on 1 May. So that's one channel less on Sky that we don't have.

Its programming will then be available via On Demand and I understand that this will also be available to VM viewers. Whether this will be a separate app or whether the additional programming will be added to 'ITV Collections' on demand, I am not sure.

For those who have been following The Americans on ITV Encore, a new series of this starts on ITV 4 on Wednesday 4 April at 10pm.

We subscribe to the Now TV Entertainment Pass and they notified me by email that the live channel would no longer be available from 1 May as it was closing down. However the on demand channel would continue to be accessible.

Yes, because they didn't follow through with the original plan to bring lots of new content on to this channel. Instead, they continued to rely mainly on ITV repeats, many of which had already even been shown on ITV3!
