Not bad for a makeshift defence given the players absent.

The only real chance Liverpool had was the one that De Gea saved with his foot in the first half.

It's a good job that Lukaku isn't a defender with a 'reputation' , that first half challenge on Gomez was at least a yellow, horribly mistimed.:(

If you get City knocked off their form, which is scary at the minute, United would win the league with performances like that. Rather than go for it, Mourinho seems content in taking a point away from the big games and then consistently picking up three against the lesser teams.

Re: Season 2017/2018

Back to takeover season, Staveley could be beaten to a purchase if she's not certain about what she's trying to do. It's expected the chinese investors will formally launch their takeover bid if overseas investment policies are scaled back. There's no four groups, up from three. Staveley and Co who haven't signed a NDA, and three other who have, of which one is a Chinese consortium looking as per to throw money into football (see the ridiculous chinese premier league boom) another is Middle Eastern, relatively little is known on that front. The last is merely rumoured to be Robert Kraft of the New England Patriots, very little is known however because of the NDA so that one is merely rumour and fans have dismissed Robert Kraft as an owner due to.. well not offering much more than Ashley.

Until more decent news arrives, I'm stuck with local rubbish. Like this.

Quote:

“Current brand value, based on factors such as league standing, revenue potential, fan base and global exposure, has Newcastle valued at around £190-200million.

“This is almost double that, so I would argue it’s a high asking price.
Except anyone involved with football knows that owner interest free loans are added to the overall value. Which makes it all the more genius when he literally smashes his own argument in pieces with :
Quote:

But that is without taking into account the money Ashley has also committed on an interest-free loan basis.
Sherlock Holmes level reporting right there. Putting The Sun to shame.

Newcastle United officially for sale amid looming takeover.

Still no firm word on the potential buyers but they'd put it between the Chinese group and the Staveley group that's prompted this statement.

Quote:

"As a result of increasing press speculation regarding the future of Newcastle United, the owner of the club, St. James Holdings Limited, wishes to clarify its intentions.
"As one of the Premier League's oldest and best supported football clubs - and for the benefit of its many fans and supporters in the UK and across the world - Newcastle United requires a clear direction and a path to a bright and successful future.
"To give the club the best possible opportunity of securing the positioning and investment necessary to take it to the next level, at what is an important time in its history, its present ownership has determined that it is in the best interests of Newcastle United and its fans for the club to be put up for sale.
"To give an incoming owner the maximum possible flexibility to make meaningful investment in the club, including in its playing squad, the sale process will give interested parties the opportunity of deferring substantial payments.
That bottom bit being incredibly important. You'd want to spend instantly in January but after lumping out a massive sum for the club, they may be left with little liquid cash for the remainder of that season.

With this statement, one can only assume that one of the parties has opened formal talks. Otherwise, being fair, we already knew it was for sale. One will assume this but I can't grasp why you'd release a statement like this is one of them had made a proper approach? I could be wrong but to me it doesn't make much sense and actually signals the opposite?

It could also link with the original idea that Ashley would welcome Chinese investment and sell shares of the club, (Clever way of getting someone else to foot your bill really) It's accepted that he was pretty much told they'd only buy outright or nothing.

Obviously as in earlier posts, Staveley never signed the NDA, the Chinese and other middle eastern group both did, however it was expected Staveley wanted a deal done by Christmas, which is mentioned in the statement above coincidentally. Mere coincidence? It's all I have though, nobody knows anything besides the four groups I've posted about before.

All in all, I just think everyone would happily settle for any amount of investment at this point.

Update: Ian Dennis suggesting the Staveley group is pushing ahead. Multiple outlets reporting Staveley deal, I think it's tosh though.

Re: Season 2017/2018

Seems the Staveley source was more than just rumour, Club Lawyers are ready to set up a meeting amid reports she wants to buy the club outright but only values it at £300 million and she'd want to stick £150 million straight into the club on top of the £100m in TV money to give Newcastle a £250m budget over the two upcoming windows.

No word on the other three groups though but again the Chinese group are said to be desperate to get in on a takeover but can't until overseas investment restrictions are dropped.

adzii_nufc 18-10-2017 19:21

Re: Season 2017/2018

Yeah correct that, outlets are already confirming Staveley's team met Newcastle chiefs yesterday afternoon and have started the negotiation process. It's expected she'll be the 'sole' owner of the club should it go through but will be heavily backed with Chinese and Arab investment via FCP capital I believe it is.

The bookies have a different look at things however.
Shahid Khan - 11/1
Mikhail Prokhorov - 14/1
Mark Zuckerberg 14/1
Tilman Fertita - 18/1
Mark Cuban - 33/1
Rupert Murdoch - 50/1
Richard Branson - 66/1
Vince McMahon - 66/1
Donald Trump - 80/1

I mean I understand why they're playing around a bit given they can't offer odds on Staveley or the other three groups that signed NDA's but Zuckerberg at 14/1? same odds as Prokhorov whom is more likely to complete such a deal.
Obviously it's just a list to part fools from their money of course. I can't imagine the ramifications of someone like Zuckerberg buying a Premier League team and bankrolling it to the moon, circumventing FFP on the way by.

Last time I heard him pop up was for Spurs? which is more than affordable for him and he flat out denied it.

I'm worried Robert Kraft is legitimately interested though, don't like the idea at all. He doesn't seem much better than what we already have, although a statement claiming Ashley will not sell to anyone that hasn't got the ability to take the club forward may well be a good parting gift.

Onwards for the night though, United/Benfica for me, because Benfica are having a stinker, want to see Lukaku continue his ways.

Amanda Staveley launches £300m takeover of Newcastle. Wonder what the eventual cost is going to be and whether it's going to go through. Strange times in the north. Questions surrounding does Ashley have to take the offer, we're unaware of potential bids from China or the Middle East or whether either of those two could be completed in the time frame he wants. Just wish it was done with now.

Were racist chants in the Chelsea match the other night, directed at the former Roma CB who now plays for Chelsea, then with all the complaints of last night, a few missed the Everton fan attempt to punch a Lyon player in that scuffle, who has subsequently been banned.

They could take action, the referee hands out the yellow for the challenge in my opinion and absolutely missed everything Williams then done as part of the scuffle, it was impossible for him to see it, it was impossible for us to see it without the overhead camera. The initial challenge would be a soppy red card to be fair, on first look people are calling for his head but if you watch it over and over he's just pushed the keeper off the pitch really. Credit to the keeper, he hasn't made an absolute meal of it either. I think a yellow would be fair for that, it's not fair for what happens afterwards though.

Everything that follows after is grounds for Williams dismissal.

If they'd have done away with Bilic and approached Benitez a few weeks ago, I'd have been worried but I think that ship has sailed now that the Staveley train is in town. Assuming it goes through he'll net a £350m war chest for two windows, and I can't imagine he'd want to walk away from that chance unless it's a substantially bigger club.

Yohan Cabaye gets a yellow for a horrible scissor challenge in which he dived with frustration about a denied Zaha penalty appeal, turns out he dived. As in a previous post, the standard of refereeing this year is absolutely shocking. From horrible red card decisions to yellows for leg breakers.

So does Zaha have a game where he doesn't go absolutely flying when someone breathes on him? We've already had one Ashley Young in this league.

Funnily enough I was walking home from shopping in the city centre and it was really depressing weather and though to myself I don't have a good feeling about this afternoon, how right I was. :(

Not easy to judge without seeing the game but it doesn't sound like a great performance, first win for the Terriers against United since 1958, well done them.

l still think Man Utd will end up in the top 4 but reality is starting to set in now as there is only one team who will win the title and we all know who that is.;)

I watched this game today, Everton were just hopeless.
Would have looked even worse had they not been gifted one of their goals.

You can have Van Dijk for loadsamoney, he clearly doesn't want to play for us. ;)

Then we can sign someone twice as good for a quarter of the cost. :D

Just watching the beginning of the end for Jurgen Flopp :erm:

Honestly, this started as soon as the media started questioning how much better Liverpool are now than they were under Brendan.

Well poor defending signalled the end for the previous incumbents so you might be on to something there adzii.:tu:

Re: Season 2017/2018

I mean the defender is gonna get the blame for that free kick, but what's Mingolet doing? There's no shout from him, the ball goes out for a goal kick if he shouts for it. It's a combination of poor decisions and poor communication.

I had a conversation with Liverpool fans a few nights ago who were niffed that Newcastle were looking like getting massive investment. They feel FSG are holding Liverpool back and to get to the next level they need similar investment. I'm not familiar with Liverpool's spending capabilities though so it's not for me to speculate although they were convinced the manager wasn't getting the signings he wanted, nor was Brendan.
