Re: Major TiVo Update

my slow TiVo was just another excuse to leave apart from the price hike.

SkyQ faster better value tv

Re: Major TiVo Update

Just switched mine on and found that I couldn't even get into my recordings.

Did a reboot, that fixed it (albeit very slow) and now we have "No network availability C130).

I now think that the problem is so serious that VM need to seriously think about promising all TiVo customers with a new box at no charge.

This is the only way that I can see them salvaging not only their TV business, but possibly their whole business as many will be moving from one triple provider to another.

It's easier and more cost effective, so they may end up losing BB, TV and phone customers because of this.

Cable TV has always been the poor relation, it's only my dislike of Sky that has been the main reason for my loyalty, but there are much more cost effective choices now.

Re: Major TiVo Update

As Richard just pointed out what they should do is give all existing TIVO customers the new one for free as we've had to put up with this slooooooooooooo ooo oooooo o ooow box for so long.

I do hope our fantastic VM employees who post on here are forwarding the problems we are all facing since the new update :)

Nice to hear that we are all suffering since the new update apparently.....

Re: Major TiVo Update

Also another reason the new box should be free is we rent our tivos but they will it a installation charge to get round it

They must be seriously worried that they are about to loose many loyal customers.

A reason it shouldn't be free as it would cost a fortune replacing thousands of boxes

But how does that compare with losing thousands of loyal customers? In the end, it's a balance.

I guess the trick is to have a price increase, lock customers in a 12 month contract then bring out the box so they don't have to give them for free

Companies gain and lose customers all the time so at the end of the day its all swings and roundabouts and what companies accept as the bottom line.

The bottom line is give me a service that works. I uphold my side by paying a monthly subscription.... VM need to hold up their side by giving me a fit for purpose service.

It was bad enough before the update.... it's appalling now.

l am sorry to hear of your poor service Mobes and l sincerely hope it gets sorted out for you but we must remember there are many out there who receive a excellent service as well.

Re: Major TiVo Update

Given how badly the existing Tivo performs and the number of complaints about it, I think that Virgin should reduce any premium we will have to pay for the new box to encourage people not to jump ship.

The new box may well be capable of encouraging many to pay the higher price, but those who cannot afford it will simply opt to go with another provider. Maybe there should be a special deal for existing customers only. Whatever they do, their priority should be to recall the existing Tivos as soon as possible. People should not be expected to put up with the current state of affairs, which should be regarded as an embarrassment for Virgin Media.

Re: Major TiVo Update

For those that remember the launch of the current TiVo, I wonder if they will do a lottery again to win a free V6 box and a years TiVo service charge???

That would be a start I guess.

As for the blanket wide suggestion of giving new boxes away, you've got more chance of excrement landing on your head from a flying pig

Overall service from VM is excellent Den. But they haven't done their homework with this update and have let themselves done badly!

Exactly.

Remember that VM BB ad with the spinning circle saying that there is no buffering with them?

I'm surprised that Sky haven't done something similar to capitalise on this cock up.

"Why wait to view your recordings"? and then a mock up of the purple circle on screen going round and round :D

They even made a mess of that competition.

Due to an error, many customers (myself included) did not get a chance to take part. Due to the usual VM incompetence what should have been a bit of fun turned into sour grapes for a lot of customers.

Absolutely spot on mate, you summed that up perfectly....

Re: Major TiVo Update

I was part of a later group of Beta testers for the software upgrade.
I don't know how many of us there were in total but no one experienced any more slow down that the usual we expected.
However since they have rolled it out to everyone they have officially closed off the project and published a questionnaire about the project and said we had several weeks to complete the questionnaire.

I came back off holiday to find the questionnaire gone and so if they have closed the project off I wonder how they are going to test the next update?
Mind you if we did not see these slow issues a lot of people are getting now it's probably why they have binned us!

As the old saying goes, "If at first you don't succeed....hide all the evidence and hope that nobody notices" :D

Seriously though, sticking their heads in the sand is not going to make this go away.

The closure of the any trial won't be connected to hiding any issues that are occurring. Once the thing that a trial is testing is delivered into 'live', then the trial is closed.

What I'm sure of is that you are reading and passing on the info we've given. If you need any more details Ben then just feel free to ask.

Re: Major TiVo Update

Well, I'm sticking with Virgin until I get some first impressions of the new Tivo. If I'm not impressed, I really will have to move to Sky, much as it pains me. VM have really got to get themselves in a position in which they are regarded as the no 1 provider of digital TV services. This is the only area that lets them down at the moment in my opinion.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned but don't understand why but the TV anytime app works brilliantly controlling my TiVo instant response compared to using the boxes remote control!

I don't understand how changing the way the commands are issued helps the poorly performing STB

Does this really work?

Following yet another reboot, I find the EPG is now being affected. It won't even let me set programmes for tomorrow.

The Discovery Bar has disappeared and it won't let me come out of the EPG, all it does is 'bong'. Pathetic.

Why on earth CS have this info to hand and save the time and cost involved in sending an engineer out?

How could taking the card out when rebooting speed it up?

The cards are no longer required I am sure.

Its virtual viewing cards now.

When my Tivo was changed about 2 months ago. it does not having a viewing card

Good point.

Edit: Apparently, the engineer took the cards away and said that they are now "covered by the software".

Maybe a reboot after taking the card out will improve some people's boxes? Perhaps the delays are down to the machine reading the card when it doesn't have to??

Removing the card makes no difference. If it went faster, that would be because of the reboot.

Re: Major TiVo Update

Thanks for the info. SP.

I was hoping that we had stumbled onto something here (in a similar way that removing Suggestions is helpful) as one or two have said that doing this has led to an improvement in speed. But, as you say, a reboot helps anyway!

I've asked those who say that this procedure has led to an improvement to let me know if this is long lasting.
