It was my poor attempt at humour. I am still finding how excited people are getting over it quite entertaining.

I'm with you and it'd go straight into modem mode as I've a far superior router at home but I imagine for those on the original Superhub or even the SH2 non-AC it's a bit of an upgrade.

Both of the hardware models I've heard it to be based on are 2014 kit.

It's a custom device being purchased in large quantities. I find it entirely believable that it'd not be especially expensive.
