No - it's the one with the broken flux capacitor.

They never had credit card slots, they had subscription card slots.

Actually they kinda did. The 1000 and 2000 series STBs had an additional slot for a Mondex card.

It was pretty obvious feature on the box. Never used of course but I'm sure I remember it even being touted as a new way to do online shopping by Telewest.

Ah, Mondex! Late 1990's, sort-of a pre-pay card; load some value to it from your account, then pay for small-ticket items without fiddling with signatures, PINs or online Bank authorisations. Some people thought it was the future of payment technology.

Just goes to show how wrong they were.:D:D

It was a nice try though.

edit Just had a thought, basically it was a pre-paid credit card which is still available at a cost. The joys of corperate policy. Screw the customer for what they can get out of them!

It required special dedicated terminals somewhere to load and manage the card, and more in-store to accept payments. It was slow to use to pay for anything. It had no chance.

Anyway, back to Broadband Hardware Trial 2015 !

While on the trials forum i mentioned i get a slow down in the evenings sometimes from 100mbit to 50mbit, and they're now crediting me £10 a month until April 2016, i didn't have to even ask for it or make a phone call.

I have mentioned in several threads that I am on 152 but lucky if I get 50. How did you know you were getting the £10 credit? Did you call them to report it?
I am due to go to 200 by the end of this month so maybe if that upgrade can fix my poor speeds....

I joined a utilisation thread in the trials forum, and posted i was getting between 20-50mbit most evenings on my 100mbit connection, a MOD checked my connection and could see my peak time usage was breaching their thresholds, he reported it to networks then asked me to take the chat out of the trials forum and create my own thread.

He then posted in the thread he was moving it to a special team to keep an eye on the progress and updates. Another mod pmed me saying he has put a monthly rolling £10 credit on my account with a review date of 31/3/16.

He did say they don't usually do credits like this via the forum without me phoning up but for this kind of issue they could.

Sorry for the bad news. That's like expecting an increase in road speed limits to reduce congestion at 5pm. i.e. It won't have any affect on low speeds caused by congestion.

Yes and you don't want to do it late in the day for when you may get problems.

Read the forums as to what to expect as to not be disappointed.

Ignitionnet 04-11-2015 18:22

Re: Broadband Hardware Trial 2015

If you're curious about its specifications have a look at this.

It's a 24 downstream, 8 upstream cable modem. With a router delivering 802.11ac WiFi. 4 x GigE ports. Also 2 x RJ-11 telephony ports making it an eMTA.

Sorry to ruin the surprise. ;)

EDIT: Incidentally, for the curious and those of a more cynical bent, and with the inevitable denial in mind as it's a seriously top secret thing a new cable modem, a total game changer because of course if this comes out the competition are bound to come out with better kit to, err, attach to their maximum 80Mb VDSL 2 lines, source.

Also they appear to have another version of the kit based on the Compal CH7465E.

Virgin Media refuse to comment but their parent have discussed this.

So I guess they are going all kinds of dual vendor it seems.

It was my poor attempt at humour. I am still finding how excited people are getting over it quite entertaining.

Must be my age and cynicism.

I'm with you and it'd go straight into modem mode as I've a far superior router at home but I imagine for those on the original Superhub or even the SH2 non-AC it's a bit of an upgrade.

Both of the hardware models I've heard it to be based on are 2014 kit.

It's a custom device being purchased in large quantities. I find it entirely believable that it'd not be especially expensive.

As far as I know they are not, the difference is firmware rather than hardware, but obviously I'm not privvy to such things so may be wrong.

Shush you.

I for one like the AC speed when transferring stuff across the home network. More and more people have NAS's these days thanks to the pitiful upload speeds on VM making cloud storage of large files a chore.

Unless it proves better than my N56U router then I think in the long run it will just run in modem mode.

For the second wave I understand you should have got access to the forum before getting the kit - the instructions on how to install were on the forum, not in the box, apparently!

Well you're on a trial, so expect problems, just install it at a reasonable time in the day when you can get help from the capable VM team on the VM forum if needed.

As the above post says i am also posting with internet.

Re: Broadband Hardware Trial 2015

I'm not on the trial and not even on-net so don't care, but those of you guys who are on the trial I would strongly recommend avoiding discussion of it on here. VM UK's obsession with secrecy is well known, hence why they were still obfuscating over the kit even when their parent had announced it.

UnStable - do remember you agreed to keep schtum and your having the kit is conditional on that - I didn't hence can say whatever I please :)

Mark, I really appreciate the efforts you've gone too. Can't wait to share my experience on there soon.

Do you by chance have two UserID's on VM Forum and if so have you checked PM's and both VMM/VMM2 Trial access on both accounts?

I've just checked and I don't appear to have any private messages. I only have one account in the VM forum.

Don't sign up for a trial then, you're just wasting everyone's time.

I had an issue, posted it to the forum and it was resolved about 30mins later. Didn't have to do a thing.

It can be slow getting a response from mods, but once they do respond issues get resolved quickly.

Unless you call VM support then you are pretty screwed half of them don't have a clue about it. it must be so secret even support don't know about it

Not really to do with secrecy. It wouldn't be practicable, and is unnecessary, to train the normal support staff on a product that is still in development, gets very frequent firmware updates, and may look considerably different by the time it is released (if it is at all).

Because i am on the trial and know the state it is currently in, obviously can't say here but it is not ready for a customer to use, far too early and needs more testing and firmware updates, which is the whole point of a trial.

Why would you be shocked when exactly this has happened in the past?

Re: Broadband Hardware Trial 2015

I was in the SH2 and SH2AC trials and now with the SH3 I would class myself as a normal to low user and so if I am having problems then I would say the general public would do.

The previous trials did not seem to have this many issues as I am still experiencing now.

SH1 was a joke during the trials and is still a joke today.

depends what you want to do with your router....I play games and some downloading and occasionally a bit of streaming so not really come across any problems.

Although I have the steam link now so see how well it starts playing

No. First thing I tried when I got mine 7 weeks ago.

The cookie credential doesn't have the same info (once decoded) as in the article.

There are other things you can try but I can't say what.. :D
