No one would ever mention the world rankings in any seriousness

Well done to northern Ireland and to think some here would deny countries as small as them the chance to compete on a level playing field

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

There are TWO big pointers to make regarding Arsenal and Tottenham.

I do generally feel for Gunners fans, All Wenger bought in the window was Cech, who was off loaded by Chelsea, as they felt they had a better keeper. The Gunners fans must be getting really fed up that Wenger wont buy in any window. If his main strike force gets injured, he will be in the same position as Tottenham

Levy, has always been the same. If anyone upsets him like - Adebeyor, then that's it. They are out as they are expsenive and will play with the academy.

Like Berbatov, he was offered a place at Villa. But his wage demands were too high. And he is now playing for a Greek side.

Spurs will always be tightfistedly, and must get rid of there scout who did the buying for Soldado etc.

Poch bought his own scout from Southampton - But Levy blocked a move that Pock was going for.

You wont change Levy, if Spurs are still in the lower part of the PL. Bet you that Levy will sack Poch. Spurs will never get into the CL until they get at least TWO strikers in

I heard someone say today that the only way Arsenal will finally listen to fans if is the fans don't renew their season tickets for next season. If fans stop buying tickets, then surely that will be a massive clue to the owners?

The owners are quite happy for Arsene to remain in charge though and although most fans will have a moan they still generally still buy their season tickets as a lot of the Arsenal criticism in the end is media inspired in my opinion.

Newcastle apparently made an offer of £10 million plus Rolando Aarons for Charlie Austin. There's silly made up stories then there's that.

A second source claims Newcastle were infact offered Charlie Austin for £12 million and Newcastle declined saying they were quite happy with we've got.

If the second is true it seems like Newcastle won the hardball game played out all summer then pulled a quick one and left QPR with a valueless player.

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

I reiterate what I've said all along, LVG is not the man for United. Ok he has reportedly backed down over a few things with the team but he has never felt to me like someone who feels the need to back down. I always said the main problem with Moyes was although he seemed a genuinely nice guy he always came across as being too timid - a United manager needs to have arrogance and swagger but in my opinion LVG is TOO arrogant. He has to be the boss of course but doesn't seem to accept United have done things a certain way for a LONG time and given how he says he'll retire in a few years he seems to be determined to change United far too much from the SAF era.

So I'm not too impressed with LVG.

But for 1 day who the hell cares :D

Not a classic by any means, the first half was awful and for an OT game United almost seemed scared. I'm not yet convinced this side will gel properly and dear Lord do we need another established striker.....however you can't argue with the result, beating the scousers any day is always going to be good for football :D

Liverpool's goal was pretty good but Martial's was better - all that pressure on a teenager but he took on the Scouse defence single handedly. Early days but I'm already feeling slightly better about his over-inflated price tag :)

I'm just hoping he doesn't turn out like Donkey Diego Forlan and Donkey Dimitar - couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo the rest of the time but banged them in for fun against Liverpool.

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

Charlie Austin will finally make his Newcastle United move in January for a cut price of £6 million. Newcastle had the money, they still have £120 million to spend over the next year. Speculation increases this is Mike Ashley setting up a giant adboard for the sale of Newcastle United by investing massively and aiming high in hopes of a potential buyer. It's been made clear Mike Ashley would never offload Newcastle onto someone that didn't have the money to keep them going so it's not as easy as it sounds. Newcastle are currently valued at £222 million and a buyer would be expected to pay £350 million to secure the club unless a payment scheme for the £120 million 0 interest loan from Ashley is worked out.

West Ham tonight, TD, may the best 11, 10 or 9 players win :D

Newcastle will remain unchanged from Arsenal bar Mitrovic who is replaced by Cisse. (Prediction)

Anthony Taylor will will referee tonight's match, an enemy of both Newcastle and West Ham, notably this year already dishing out that red card that see's Adrian miss this game and those two dire penalty decisions against Liverpool last year have popped up with him in the build up. West Ham only going up, Newcastle, just uninspiring, the manager, everything. After the first half you have to change things, he didn't and went with the same boring play from the first and lost miserably. McClaren won't be sacked but he's making a right mess of this. Perez looked brilliant when he came on and should be starting way ahead of Cisse. You know something stinks when your Right back is your best striker..

What's McClaren doing here?

European attendance records last season:

Quote:

1) Borussia Dortmund - total fans 1.367m Average: 80,463

2) Barcelona - total fans 1.475m Average 77,632

3) Man United - total fans 1.431m Average: 75,335

4) Real Madrid - total fans 1.388m Average: 73.081

5) Bayern Munich - total fans 1.239m Average: 72,882

8) Hamburg total fans 905,278 Average: 53,252

9) Marseille total fans: 1.005m Average 52,917

10) Newcastle total fans: 956,823 Average 50,359
Bold are the standout ones, Dortmund had a pretty dire year but kept the attendance up, Lewandowski, Goetze and co all gone yet the fans still turn out, Newcastle were fighting relegation all the way down to the last day. It's no wonder Mike won't leave.

Barca and Madrid is the confusing one if someone can interpret incase I'm thinking wrong. It appears they rarely sold out their stadiums last year

Edit: If anyone can explain what Liverpool's defence was doing there... Rodgers...

Dortmund is Dortmund. The football club or the way of life should I say sits alone in Dortmund, those attendances just reconfirms what you see on the tele. Bayern Munichs average is disappointing considering its supposed following and oh yeah cost of tickets being virtually nil vs PL tickets! That doesn't add up ! Hamburg owns the city. Schalke has its history, bit like Dortmund.

RM have the obvious threat of AM and the following they have. If you tune in to matches vs lower level opposition you will see a fair few empty seats at RM. RM don't own the city unlike Barcelona who seemingly do. Espanyol cannot compete. Having said that Barcelonas average is low if you compare it to RM, this being stadium capacity > average attendance..

rounding off the numbers..

Barca = 99k capacity with an average attendance of 78k
RM = 81k capacity with an average attendance of 73k

on average Barcelona have more empty seats than RM which throws out what I said above of Barca owning the city.

Man Utd is the impeccable average on the list. Everyone else has a big loss. Arsenal comes in second behind Man Utd. Hardly surprising. London is red after all :D it also has to be said the EPL has restrictions on broadcasting of games, 3pm kick offs etc. which helps getting stadiums filled.

Marseille isn't soo much of a surprise with them having a decent'ish season. Started well then fell off. PSG fail to make the top 10 with a bigger stadia capacity and well Lille with the biggest in Ligue 1 flop

It does have to be mentioned though that these could be ticket sold averages rather than bums on seats averages. I could be wrong, the Arsenal average makes me ponder tbh.. "and the attendance today is sixtythousandmillion"... no mate it isn't! nonetheless the city is still red :D

I can understand the attendance records but where does that list get the 'total fans' number from?

Its the number of fans in total over the season. So for United 75,335 x 19 (home league games) = 1.431 million

Dortmunds is less because there are fewer teams in their league so fewer home games.

Updated list without the total fans figure.

I'm unsure who made the figure count, or whether it's completely accurate as it would take a pretty decent amount of time to complete that top 10 for last season. Might have done though before I discredit someone :D

If anyone fancies doing an attendance count of your own to verify, please do, the thought of going through 19 games is daunting.

Did it, 956,802 For Newcastle United, List is close enough.

2 less which would account for

Dortmund 19 = 1,528,797 million
-2 = 160,926 > 17 = 1,367,871
Stadium capacity 81,359 average attendance 80,463

Man Utd 19 = 1,431,365 million
Stadium capacity 75,731 average attendance 75,335

still a fair few not attending on average for Dortmund

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

Costa is some piece of work. How did that all end with Gabi being sent off lol nuts

Also Gabi on Hazard was not a pen. Defender uses strength to haul attacker away from ball but during tussle Hazard uses his own strength to make more of the situation, pulling Gabi towards him mid way through. Funny thing is had Hazard had a little more strength about him and pulled Gabi down Hazard would have most probably been called up as fouling an opponent. The defender gets the benefit of the doubt in those situations.

They both should've been sent off, they're as pathetic as each other

Yes as Shadow says its simply pathetic from them both.

Gabi didn't do anywhere near as much as Costa did. How did he get away with what he done to Koscielny ?

He was just as culpable as Costa in my opinion.

Costa should've been sent off first, it doesn't excuse what Gabriel did afterwards though.

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

Did you watch the replay Den? Koscielny done nothing but defend. Costa couldn't get his own way so he hit out. Thats a red. Gabi reacted afterwards, a lack of discipline admittedly but all due to the injustice on Koscielny.

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

Costa should have been given a straight red for the 3 times he had his hand in an Arsenal face. That red card incident sounds like a joke. I would think Arsenal could win an appeal against that, and hopefully some retrospective action against Costa can be taken. Saying that, I am still slightly wanting a Chelsea win.

The one thing you should not do is react to others.

thenry 19-09-2015 15:02

Re: Football Season 2015/2016

A straight red for Gabi for the little back kick which would be violent conduct so a 3 match ban? If Costa is called up by the FA then he too will get a 3 match ban for violent conduct which again is injustice. How Gabis action balance Costas is beyond imagination but both are violent conduct charges lol

McClaren showing his colours again by starting Cisse. Forget about John Carver, Newcastle look worse and the crisis is real.
