I won't watch the new TG, as I cannot stand Chris Evans. They'll soon regret sacking Clarkson as they will lose their biggest international seller.

I think everyone's intrigued to see how Evans will do this and what style of show the new top gear is going to be. Again though, I can't see past it ever being as good as Clarkson's show.

I will subscribe to Amazon just to watch Clarksons new show. As for the new so called top gear well there is not a chance i will be watching that.

Top Gear was getting stale IMO. There are only so many times you can re-shoot the same joke. The new line-up gives them a chance to do something different. It will stand or fall on its own merits, just as it did when they last re-booted it.

I doubt people think it's getting stale, I was on the waiting list, to get on the waiting list for over 6 years.

Well clearly "people" do ... I am one of them ;)

I have no idea how many people agree with me, but I'd be surprised if I'm the only one. Mind you, I was never an avid, set my schedule, mustn't miss it viewer.

There are doubtless those that think this is the worst thing that could possibly have happened to it. A higher proportion of such people are likely to be found among those that wait years to get studio tickets. However, the show is made for broadcast, not theatre, so the more important figure is how many people tune in, not how long the queue is at the aerodrome.

Will the viewing figures go up or down? Time will tell.

Chris Evans bends over and throws up during Top Gear filming after a racetrack’s fast pace put his head in a spin.

New host Evans, 49, retched at the trackside after trying out an Audi R8 V10 with co-presenter Sabine Schmitz.

German racing driver Sabine, 46, had been at the wheel with Radio 2 DJ Chris in the passenger seat.

She screeched to a halt when Chris felt ill and he clambered from the car and stood hunched over at the track in Monterey, California.

The point, as been made before, is that it really isn't a car programme. It's light entertainment with cars. Especially since many of the cars shown cost more than people's houses.

Hampster, captain slow and Clarkson all had a good knowledge of cars not just an interest. I've seen Le Blanc on a few car related programmes and he is definitely interested but once the questions come at him his knowledge is not great shall we say. Should of gone for Jay Leno.

Well I meant more like a woman such as Suzi Perry. They do make up about 50% of the population after all. I think the main issue is that if they stuck with three male presenters trying to form the chemistry that the prior three had it would be awful. They are going to have to change the show and attempt to avoid being a pale imitation of what went before.

So we have Eddie Jordan and Sabine Schmitz in the Top Gear team. At least two people with actual knowledge of how to drive a car properly fast and industry connections.

THE full line-up for the new look Top Gear has finally been confirmed.

Chris Evans and Matt Le Blanc will head a SIX PERSON bumper cast also featuring Formula 1 pundit Eddie Jordan and motoring journalist Rory Reid.

German racing driver Sabine Schmitz will add some much needed glamour, while YouTuber Chris Harris will help draw in younger viewers.

Eddie, who once had Michael Schumacher and Damon Hill as part of his F1 team, said: "I have such enormous respect for all my fellow presenters and I politely ask that they go easy on these old bones."

Announcing the lineup on his Radio 2 Breakfast Show, Chris described Eddie as "bonkers", "unpredictable" and "a loose cannon".

With the BBC announcing the presenting line-up for the latest series of Top Gear, critics were quick to take to the internet to voice their disapproval. ‘Top Gear, more like FLOP Gear,’ one wag wrote on the site’s Facebook page. ‘I mean, I only recognise like three of them – and one of those is The Stig – so they can’t be any good. And I don’t like the ones I recognise, so they’ll be rubbish too.’

Other critics were quick to pounce on the unfamiliarity or familiarity of the hosts, the fact they either know too much or not enough about cars, the chemistry that may or may not be present, their dislike of Chris Evans because he got to see Billie Piper naked or whether the show will be too much or not enough like the ‘old’ Top Gear.

All agreed that they would not watch it, though they watch the first one, but only to deride it, unless it’s alright, in which case they might watch the second one to see if it wasn’t a fluke, then get Top Gear Live tickets to make fun of them not being able to deliver it to a crowd, and possibly a DVD or two so they can nit-pick in my spare time.

It seems the BBC do not understand why top gear was popular. Imagine the best moments of topgear, now replace clarkson, may, Hammond with Evans, Le Blanc, Schmitz.

It was the dynamic, not the "metal boxes" that we loved.

Shows how much the world has changed.. I remember the old days when Chris Tarrant would drink until the early hours and then turn up to present the Capital Breakfast show still drunk..

Even a few years back, Lisa Snowden left Johnny Vaughan a drunken voice mail, which he played (much to her embarrassment) on the show the next day.

These got barely a mention in the press at the time.

Now, we apparently have BBC bosses panicking that Chris Evans likes the KFC too much..

CHRIS Evans has called for the BBC to never air 'disrespectful' Top Gear scenes filmed outside the Cenotaph.

The DJ claimed the entire Top Gear team were "mortified" by the reaction to the stunt, which came about after The Sun obtained pictures of co-host Matt LeBlanc skidding through Westminster and throwing smoke into the air while driving a Ford Mustang.

He said: "I think the images are terrible, they look so disrespectful. I saw the images this morning for the first time and I felt the same as everybody else. This is not a good story, no.
Linky

Quote:

Chris's apology puts him at odds, once again, with Top Gear bosses, who tried to defend the stunt yesterday, saying: "The activity actually took place around 40 metres away from the Cenotaph. All agreed in advance."
Oh dear. Hitting the nail squarely on the thumb.

Damien 14-03-2016 14:19

Re: Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday

I know some are out to get the new Top Gear but is filming near the Cenotaph really that offensive? Plenty of films, events, sports and so on have been filmed on Whitehall and sometimes the Cenotaph is in shot. As far as I can see the Cenotaph didn't form part of the stunt, i.e they weren't do u-turns around it, it was just there because it exists on Whitehall.

A spokesperson for Westminster City Council said in a statement: "What the Top Gear team did on the day was not what had been agreed during the planning process.

Quote:

Col Richard Kemp told Stephen Nolan the war memorial should be shown "respect".

Col Kemp likened the Cenotaph to a "cemetery" and said he did not want to see any clips featuring the memorial in the final edit.

He added it "does not need to have people screaming around in cars and generating smoke from their tyres all over it".

Damien 14-03-2016 14:39

Re: Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday

You can always find people willing to go on record, there is always someone who is offended.

It's more why the sudden offense about filming near the Cenotaph considering it's been done many times without objection? Off the top of my head I know cycling races have whizzed past it, that section of Whitehall was used in the Bond film Skyfall and also one of the episodes of the modern Sherlock. Oh and 28 Days Later.

The cenotaph is on the Parliament Square end of Whitehall, one of the most iconic parts of London, an area constantly being used in films and on TV. Sometimes the Cenotaph is in shot and sometimes it won't be but if it's not the focus of it then what's the problem?

Well the thread started out with JC punching the producer which was news at the time.

I thought Jeremy Corbyn was a pacifist? (Do I get a prize for sneaking Corbyn's name into an entirely unrelated thread :D)

Jesus Christ, Jeremy Clarkson and Jeremy Corbyn. At least one of these people punched a producer in the face.....

The lengths this current topgear team are going to get noticed is now sickening.

Never really had any intension of watching it anyway, this idiotic stunt at the cenotaph as cemented that decision

At least they're using people like Ken Block, rally icon and absolute legend.

Just that is enough to annoy me. 0 World Championships. 0 National Championships. Wheelspins around traffic cones.. legendary :D

Michael Schumacher is a Motorsport legend. Senna is a Motorsport icon. Colin McRae is a rally legend and icon. Ken Block is a plantpot. He'd fit right in with this half arsed cast.

Would be a bit difficult for the Top Gear crew to get Schumacher, Senna or McRae, seeing as Schumacher is in a Coma (that he is looking increasingly unlikely to come out of) and both Senna and McRae are dead.

I actually think that if he could, and if the money was right, Schumacher would have done it though. He seemed the thoroughly enjoy himself any time he was on Top Gear.

I thought he was out of the coma now

Re: Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday

As far as I know, he is. But the rest has been extremely private so one could only assume the worst and he's been left in a really bad condition.

It's not really about getting someone better, it's more a dig at those that insist Ken Block is some kind of Rallying legend, a Motorsport icon and so on when he's really not, that's why I slipped in that last dig. I also hold a personal annoyance when it comes to him. Colin McRae rally literally turned into Ken Block powerslide simulator. I've probably worded it all wrong but It was certainly more of a dig at Block than it was Top Gear (I've made it no secret I dislike the cast though)

Ben Collins without his Stig persona would've been a great choice as a host.

First trailer for the new series:

... and it actually looks quite good ... :Yikes:

Hang on for the very end where Sabine Schmitz asks Chris Evans why his puke is red ...

There is one big problem for me and thats Chris Evans, i have never liked him and i knew him before he was famous. He used to drink in the same pub as me in Stockton heath (Warrington)

Just looks like Top Gear with new presenters.

Doesn't seem different at all.

Which is good.

It's a performance. You don't have to like the people off-camera to enjoy what they do, unless of course you have actual personal reasons.

The reason i liked Top Gear was the three presenters it was their interaction that made the show. A knob head like Chris Evans being in charge of the new top gear will just ruin it for me. I will be watching the other 3 on Amazon

Call me old-fashioned, but I am waiting till I have seen a few before I decide whether I like it or not... :D

I am one of Clarkson's fans, i have never been a fan of Evans. There is room on TV for both shows i just cannot see myself watching Evans and his over sized ego

You are obviously never been enamoured with Chris Evans certain style which l suppose is a bit like marmite in that people either like him or they don't like him.

Personally l think the public prefer Clarkson more then you do Chris Evans but it will be interesting to see how both shows are received when they air.

I believe he has calmed down a lot in the last decade - I think it's called "growing up"...

Well that was utterly disappointing. Evans was overly irritating. Not quite sure what the point of it all was as none of it was funny. Hopefully it'll settle down a bit (or a lot for that matter).

True, but some people can't get over their dislike of a person based on something they heard.. I know a person who has a massive fan of Denholm Elliot, then found out he was bisexual and never liked him after that. I argued that it didn't matter who he bedded (within reason), he was still a fine actor.

Everything I've heard about Russel Crowe leads me to believe he's a complete Arsington in real life, but I can't help but admire his on-screen performances. He's a very good actor.

Meanwhile, I watched tonight's Top Gear and enjoyed it. It was a good start. I think Evand was trying a bit hard at times, but that's unavoidable given the show's recent history and the pressure not to kill it off.

I've yet to watch it, but watch it I will. Even if I think it is a complete pile of crap, I'll give it a few episodes anyway, as it sometimes takes a new presenter a while to find his or her feet, and they have all new presenters.

Well peanut we agree on something . I don't know what I was expecting but I didn't expect the same tired old formula and tired old gags. We watched 2 blokes drive a couple of three-wheelers to Blackpool in the rain. I mean, riveting it wasn't.

The whole thing should have been re-vamped. The old show had become stale and the first episode of the new show felt stale too.

Ginger has lost his bottle.
