Is there a ITVBe+1 channel?

updated 19/11/14

ITVBe+1 is currently only available on Virgin Media, channel 120. It is reported that ITVBe+1 will be available on satellite and Freeview in the future.

Standard or High Definition?

updated 19/11/14

ITVBe HD is currently only available on Virgin Media, channel 179, for viewers with a higher-tier subscription. It is reported that ITVBe HD will be available on Sky in the future. Earlier in 2014, ITV indicated that the HD channel would not be free-to-view.

It's odd that they aren't even testing it off the EPG on satellite ready for when an SD slot becomes available for the timeshift variant/Freesat. Also, there's nothing to stop them launching the HD version immediately.

I assume that ITV must be supplying VM with a direct feed as there isn't actually anywhere for VM to pick up the feed from!

In other news, i've been informed that the people behind the Made In (insert city here) portfolio of Local TV channels have approached VM with a view to having their VOD Player carried, which they state will be launched sometime in 2015.

They have also promised to have their various websites up and running in the new year. Apparently, their website/s don't even carry programme listings at the moment! I'm not sure what they actually consist of as i've never looked, but would have thought that this would have been a priority before transmissions commenced- especially as i've noticed that Local TV on VM has no Series Links!!!

nodrogd 23-11-2014 16:27

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2014) Vol. 4

Most of VM's HD channels are line fed direct to the SHE at Langley in an uncompressed format, so no need for a satellite feed.

Media Boy HQ has not been given any DNP Orders or news on any new channels coming or even testing on Virgin Media this side of the Holidays bar that one confirmed new channel - Bay TV Liverpool next week.

Unconfirmed reports say That’s Solent may launch on Wednesday in some areas including Portsmouth, Fareham, Southampton and Winchester on Virgin Channel 159*.

If Worldbox allows us to watch some international programmes in English (such as Australian programmes), this might be useful to have.

Unfortunately, I have this feeling I might be disappointed!

There is nothing wrong at VM. There are people who are customers who want channels like that. English is not their first language.

It also has nothing to do with SA or that Sky will NOT sell it at a reasonable price.

But I do find it annoying that he lobs a hand grenade of a comment into the forum, then vanishes when people ask him to defend or debate what he has posted. And then he comes back a month later and posts the same comment! (But I'm sure there's plenty of things I do that probably annoy people too!)

You shouldn't take everything people say so literally. In your efforts to be so politically correct, the humour was lost on you. Now whose the "dunce"?

I have no problem with non English channels appearing on VM as long as there are no capacity issues and the wider customer base are not expected to pay for them.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2014) Vol. 4

I think we have some decent American shows that come out, but most of these end up on SA.

DOES anyone know, what the cost was, and why VM wont have it - surely, VM have been offered it many times.

But ALWAYS VM say no due to cost - or is it exclusive to Sky.

And before, someone says it. I am moaning.

I believe that VM should show all channels available, especially from Sky. As at the end of the day - WE the customer ends up paying for it.

A very good question. I've not heard of it and had no joy finding it on the internet either.

I'm assuming it's something like this but global?

Or could it be something like a travel channel?

Worldbox is set to launch via an new TiVo app. TiVo viewers can also press red on Virgin Channel 834.

I've never heard of it...I guess I could google it :-(

Info on my list about Worldbox is base on information posted on Digital Spy by Technix on September 24th.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2014) Vol. 4

VM's TV system has never worked on postcodes, which is why we have all the posts about people getting the "wrong" TV region on VM. The broadcaster decides which areas they want to cover, & then VM "best matches" this to the network headends in the target area.

Some more dual region ITV areas would be most useful...

Arthur, you can get SA via NOwTV. There is nothing stopping you popping to Tesco and getting a box tonight, you do not have to keep making this point, although I do find it rather endearing that you still get so passionate about it.

Going back to your other point about foreign channels, doctors, nurses, soliders, scientists, shop owners from all over the world come to the UK to earn an honest living and help improve our economy. If they pay Sky or VM why should they not be able to watch content from their home country/continent. If they pay VM so they can watch content from their home country/continent, surely that helps keep the costs down? If I moved to Germany, and I paid a cable provider or Sky equivalent, I would expect to be able to watch at least one channel dedicated to British programming.

Especially now as a few retailers are doing the nowtv box for £14.99 with 3 months entertainment pass, i got one earlier from Currys.

At the risk of getting Harry going... :D

If I went to a foreign country, I'd expect all the TV channels to be in the native language and just be pleased if their was an English speaking channel.

Not the right thread to talk about Now TV but the tech who replaced my Tivo said there was issues with either SKY HD or Now TV box with a VM phone line?

I want to use Now TV app with my PS3 for the Amir Khan fight so no phone line required, be more than happy to be corrected on this!

Got both Sky+HD and Now TV boxes - neither are connected to my VM 'phone line - the Now TV box doesn't even have the necessary socket to connect. Enjoy the fight.

Thanks, just downloaded the Now TV app onto my PS3, I will get a weeks pass close to the time of the fight, then all I have to worry about is the broadband with VM going down at 4am on Sunday morning knowing my luck:(

The nowtv box is a ROKU and i had a nowtv box when i was with vm and had no issues at all, he might of been refering to the ping issue which stops the box from connecting to the router but that is very easily sorted by turning ping off on the box.

Because English is so widely spoken my expectation would be slightly different but if we were talking about any other language then I'd agree. That said we are considerably more multicultural than many countries, even our closest neighbours, so I would expect services from companies in the UK to reflect the make up of those companies' customer base.

If anything, I would prefer to have a wider choice of foreign channels - watching the price is right in Indian is classic !
As has been stated earlier, the UK is a multi-cultural country, so why not show the channels - it widens VM's appeal to customers. and at the end of the day, if they are not to your liking, dont watch them.

Are they not in a package of their own?, if so that would seem more logical, and then who want's to watch them can pay separately for those particular channels.

Thought you already had one? Is it better value to buy another box to get the passes that are thrown in?

That's been brought up before, it would seem like an ideal solution, but I doubt VM would want to do it. Cord cutting is becoming an increasing problem (the current strategy is to move channels into lower packages to discourage this). I doubt they would want to encourage streaming channels from a competitor!

Exactly, like I said earlier, if they aren't preventing English channels from launching due to capacity issues and others aren't expected to pay for them I have no problem with foreign speaking channels.

Unfortunately, there are several in the XL pack that i'm on which means i'm subsidising them. I would expect such channels to be premium add on services, maybe VM have calculated that it draws more asians to the VM platform and/or it encourages them to upgrade to XL and is ultimately more profitable?

I realise that we all effectively subsidise channels that we don't watch, but at least we have the choice to do so if they are in English.

Finally, I do not believe that we are a multicultural country, nor that we should be encouraging this- particularly as the population has never been consulted about this social experiment.

There can only be one culture in any given country, that is not to say that minor cultures should not be tolerated as long as they are not problematic.

Enoch Powell's prediction of "Rivers of blood" has come true, but not quite in the way that he envisaged, but that's for another thread.

LOL, Social experiment? zenophobe much? Nice to see you are being open minded. Care to define problematic? Do you refuse treatment from non-British Doctors/nurses? Have you never frequented a shop owned by "foreigners"?

Most ludicrous statement I have ever read.

LOL, no spirited debate. I should have been clearer. If I was a tax payer in a foreign country, and I was fortunate enough to be able to afford to spend money on a pay TV provider, I would fully expect, in this day and age to be able to watch a channel with content from my home nation(s). I appreciate it is peoples choice to move, but I feel very sorry for those in this country that can not watch anything from their home nation. As I say though, it was their choice to move, so if they miss out, it is all part of the decision they had to make when moving.
