Market value as it stands separates the two club by 500oddm so in short Arsenals deal sucks. The Emirates deal is really bad but theres no choice there becasue the club had its hand tied although like I said at the time, extending the stadium naming rights was in my opinion not a good idea at the low rate. i would have rather sweat it out and looked elsewhere for revenue. its ridiculous that Arsenal are missing out on revenue!

Our deal is similar to most clubs. United is a special case because 1) It's United and their brand is massive irrespective of success or otherwise on the pitch 2) the deal is for 10 years, ours and most others are for 5. Someone will probably analysis in better detail at some point as to why the differences are so big.

the Puma deal is ok Damien. its the Emirates deal that is a proper downer though.

MU are a cashcow and leading the way because of the success and recent consistency bar Moyes.

10yr-5yr. predicting so far out is risky but IF the PL continues to rise in value then that deal will look market rate for say Arsenal in say 5 years so MU may have a devalued deal should MUs value rises. licensing has most probably been offered to Adidas in the deal like that in the Nike deal. Arsenal have its own inhouse licensing.

Chelseas is a 10 year deal, signed last year with adidas worth £300 million. Madrid and Barca are in the middle of 8 and 10 year deals, both getting around £30 million a year also. It will be interesting to see if any other clubs get close to a deal worth as much as Uniteds. It seems strange that they managed to get a deal worth more than double any other club has, its worth nearly as much as the club was sold for not all that long ago!

I would like Vermaelen to stay but I guess he wants to play more football. He has been professional all season despite being moved out of the side as well. So I don't think we need to be firm and hold him to his contract and I don't think Wenger will so if he goes to United then fair enough (although hopefully he'll go elsewhere!).

Hansen pretty much apologies for his comments about Theo...

Quote:

Four years ago, I said that Theo Walcott did not have a "football brain", without realising that my comments would be misinterpreted to such an extent.

The meaning of my observation was not as brutal as it may have come across, but nonetheless, I was critical of Walcott’s ability and I am pleased to say that Theo has proved me wrong one million per cent.

He is a proper player and I have to admit that my comments about him were the only time that I have ever been happy to be wrong.

Theo is an intelligent boy, very bright, with genuine ability and he has given the best possible response to my remarks by pretty much showing two fingers to what I said.

I have met him since I said it and there has never been a problem between the pair of us. I am delighted with how he has developed as a player.

England may have performed better at this World Cup in Brazil had Theo Walcott been fit and able to play a part, with his cruciate ligament injury ultimately costing him his place.

You wouldn't see the likes of Ronaldo, Messi, Bale etc doing this. I'm not saying its the reason why England don't produce world class players, but it shows you something about their dedication to reaching the top when the likes of Wilshere, Hart, Rooney etc are seen boozing and smoking.

Disgusting, just shows how commercialism is coming into the game more and more now. A new kit every season, demanded by fans? It might be demanded by the younger fans, who don't have to fork out for the kits (I mean the really young ones, like 13 and younger).

Think that is the case, also left a spot for the Sports News channel to go when the HD launches next year. Looking forward to tomorrow, F1 in HD.

Back on topic, kept an eye on the score Saturday but reading a match report it sounds like Stevenage were totally hammering the Hammers. Shame they let 2 goals in during the last 10 minutes, but if they can get that sorted then I reckon Stevenage could do really well. Possibly even gain promotion at the first attempt. Watch this paragraph come back and bite me on the backside next May.

14/1 to win the league, pick a couple of other teams, do a few double and a treble

In his well documented career as a journeyman coach he won't be there to build a squad (I mean actually build a squad, not do a Chelsea) or slog it out over the long haul.

Brought in to get a series of quick-fix results before he upsets the media, his peers, the players and ultimately the board. Terrible appointment imho. If I were a Man U fan I would be very worried and I think anyone who has followed Dutch football over the past 20 years would concur.

Now now, that's not the point.

Building a squad is assembling a group of players who will grow together and sustain a stable platform for the team over time, a philospohy that's served Arsenal well over the years. I hope it's something Brendan Rodgers does for us in the future because we haven't had that stability since the end of Kenny Dalglish's original tenure.

Actually Mourinho did build the backbone of a succesful squad first time around but your owner is an arse since nobody has been afforded the same stability since. Bringing in the old and infirm (Etoo and Torres for example) when talented young players like Sturridge and Lukaku are farmed out. Is it really that risky allowing them to develop?

So you've not had a stable platform for over 20 years, yet you're criticising us for doing what you seem to have been doing recently? With regards to Sturridge, he might have come good but he had his chances to start, believe me, but more than one manager didn't fancy him. Same as with Lukaku. Did Andy Carrol get a fair crack at it? Or Downing? We've wasted plenty of money, and dumped lots of players, but we're not the only ones.

Yes, however it doesn't meant that I am not just as critical of my own team. Over the past couple of years though I would like to think that we've taken significant steps towards breaking free of that endless cycle of burning money on players who offer value for a limited time.

And we've been guilty of that more times than I care to remember. Belts have been tightened because of FFP more than anything else.

The Utd deal might make a difference. Big money deals will be hard to query, as they will point to that deal, as the baseline

While I don't disagree with you Colin, the flip side to that is their worldwide support and stature enables them to attract that type of deal. For all the laughing at them last season, that's something we can never match.
