Just a quick on Mb, where abouts did you find the info the the BBC HD channels launching on the 10th?

All MB does is pass on info what he's been given it's not his fault if channels don't launch.
FOX+ was meant to launch a couple of weeks ago , no idea what is going on with that even my source has said FOX epected FOX+ to be and running on VM by now but something is stopping it no idea what yet.
3 channels were meant to launch last night maybe it's a simple case of sources jumping the gun a little but the new channels are coming that is a guarantee , just don't know when yet.

The thing is, any technical hitch can delay the launch date. I would think that all hands are on deck to ensure the nationwide Netflix launch goes without a hitch.

Exactly. Those waiting for SKY Atlantic have held on for almost 3 years so far, what's a few more weeks now?

I've just found out that Netflix has all the Sky Atlantic programmes on there that you could ask for! So I'm no longer holding out for Sky Atlantic to appear on Virgin - Netflix will do very nicely - and without all the ad breaks too!

At least we know that Netflix is likely to launch this month. This will complete my wishlist, frankly!

Netflix does not contain any of the HBO programmes (not the UK Netflix anyway which is what the TiVo will show)

Sadly, even the US Netflix store doesn't have HBO content (I've just checked). It does have the AMC series Mad Men (not season 6 yet though), Walking Dead and Breaking Bad but I can't see any HBO series there, even older fayre like Sopranos or Six Feet Under.

In the UK Sky have exclusive streaming rights for HBO shows. In the US HBO use their own service.

You can subscribe to HBO on demand using a VPN for about £7.50p/m.
You do this via HBONordic.

Tesco's BlinkBox has UK HD streaming of the HBO shows, albeit only after a season has finished on Sky Atlantic. Pricey though.

Aside from Game of Thrones, Sky Atlantic hasn't really got anything that will appeal to the mass market. Sure, Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire and (arguably) Newsroom are great shows, but for me Walking Dead, Breaking Bad and House of Cards are better...and all on TiVo by the end of the year.

I'm thinking of starting a companion blog to VMHD, concentrating on the new Netflix service arriving on TiVo in the coming weeks. To this end I've set up a small poll (www.vmhd.blogspot.com) to gauge interest in the new service. Let me know what you think.

i hope its not because of the reactions of certain people on here. we know they're rumours and they're not confirmed. its good to hear it though even if its only 90% possibility. rumours are better than nothing and i don't hold you to it.

unless its some other non cable forum reason for this in which case fair enough :)

Personally I used to hate reading about "Rumours" or "coming soon" - but now I like reading them - especially when they are late in materialising.

It's just the reactions of some members who seem genuinely suicidal because a channel is not live yet

Especially when it's the +1 channels. New channels offering new content.... maybe, but +1 channels when we have 3 recordable tuners and most digital channels repeat stuff later in the week....

Yes, keep posting the rumours (when you can). It's what makes coming here interesting and if they don't come off then they don't come off. There can be many reasons why some rumours don't pan out but it's certainly not worth worrying about.

Yes, but what? Once it's arrived, it's kind of there and nothing more to be said. If it's show recommendations, then that is a possibility, though both DS and AVforums have similar threads. And that's more of a discussion than a one persons blog type thing. That's why I was asking (a genuine question) what would be included.

May I suggest we split this thread? 'Actually coming soon' and 'Rumoured coming soon' ?

I'll get flamed for it but to be honest it's become a joke. First there were rumours from insiders and it's rapidly degenerated into rumours from 'viewers' which could be any Tom Dick or Harry sending joke PMs quite possibly.

As others have stated, when it appears on the EPG, it's FACT

I prefer to hear rumours as they occur. Media boy hears things and reports the information and makes it clear it's rumours. I'd rather hear this to be honest than nothing. It's interesting. It gives us an idea what's happening

And to media boy it was confirmed at the point. He was told it was by an insider. I'd rather he tell me the news. It didn't happen. Could have been a last minute problem at virgin launching the channel. Could have been incorrect news from the insider. Could have been a genuine mistake

But I love the news from media boy and I want him doing EXACTLY as he's doing as I thoroughly enjoy this thread

To those who don't want any chance of things not happening then change log is much better for you
I personally love this thread. The highs and the lows. The excellent news from mb.

Can someone please confirm which package the CBS channels are currently in. The MB list says M+, but someone earlier was adamant that they were on the M package.

Take that as

If VM had any concept of keeping their customers informed with upcoming channels then I'd forgive them for stopping "insider" information, but they don't. I wouldn't even notice new channels sometimes unless I read this forum.

Yes, but 'confirmed channels' are only known when they appear because VM don't give any advanced publicity at all!

Well, looks like the Changelog is the place to go now.

We can only assume that VM have clamped down on the leaks with threats of dismissal if anyone dares to speak out of turn. It's easy to lay traps with misleading information so they get to find out who it is.

Still, what we do know is that Netflix and Fox + are definitely on their way, the new BBC channels will be with us soon and Sky appear to be pretty well on board for their missing channels to appear on VM.

If that all comes to pass before Christmas, then I will be pretty happy, I must say.

I don't think that a launch would be delayed simply because word had got out that the channel would be launching.

My contacts at VM over the years have mostly given me the impression that they don't care about leaks (after all, Sky viewers simply monitor off EPG tests to get a heads up on what's coming to their platform). If anything, they are often amused by some postings! A "leak" of this nature is, after all, simply advance knowledge that a channel is coming to the platform. Most carriage agreements don't forbid platform operators from disclosing that a channel is due to arrive and whilst it may be viewed by some as unprofessional, at the end of the day it does help to reduce churn by attracting and retaining customers.

The only exception to this that I know of was BT Sports.

In the main, adding a new channel is viewed simply as an administrative matter by VM. If someone gets to know a little early that The Africa Channel +1 is starting, it's no big deal, in fact a little extra free publicity is probably welcomed by both parties.

VM are aware of and do monitor forums such as this for many and varied reasons. The main reasons are to ensure that staff are interacting with customers, suppliers etc appropriately and to try to gauge a cheap and easy (but rough) idea of public opinion etc. CBS Drama was not an expensive channel to buy and many people were asking for it on forums. The fact that it was added to the platform was not a mere coincidence ;)

Now, having said all that I have found that people are being tight lipped about Sky Atlantic and nobody knows anything about Baby TV going into XL.

If SA does arrive, maybe a big advertising blitz is planned??

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 5.

Don't believe insiders and leaks are a big issue,it's just the rumour mill as got very active and it may well be vm are still negotiating for some of these channels and that could delay a deal,it's just best to go back to what it was a coming soon thread amongst friends with confirmed channels rather than what might be and maybe's.remember been a good year for vm and still plenty on the way so there is still a lot to smile about and I'm sure we will see a mb exclusive confirmed channels post very soon ;)

Probably the case there and additional people phoning up saying where is x channel as They read it here and staff didn't know.

Anyway just adding my appreciation to everyone who discloses info, even rumours like vincerooney states brighten my days up reading the banter and speculation

I honestly can't see VM sorting out the legal, retail and technical sides of launching a channel and then abandoning it at the last minute because of something that has been posted here :D

The only exception to this could have been BT Sports.

The non appearence of the +1 channel was more likely due to the date being put back in favour of essential tests that need to be completed for Netflix, which takes higher priority than a +1 SD channel.

Sometimes dates are planned, but due to technical difficulties encountered or higher priority deals that are subsequently agreed upon, they are put back. This is why VM don't usually announce launch dates in advance, as it would irritate cystomers and make them look unprofessional.

Even putting a 'coming soon' slate onto the EPG is a risk. There were unforseen technical difficulties that delayed the launch of The Africa Channel and a legal oversight that led to the delay of Tiddlers TV.

They need to log into their account bud first i upgraded to M+ , then shortly after the xl for £8p/m for 6 months popped up under my offers , i ordered that instead and got the "you're in!" e-mail today.
The offer is for everyone on M+ or for thos on M it's M+ for £3p/m for 3 months but because they went upto M+ the XL offer should show up within 24hrs if that makes sense? lol.

I've added a screenshot if that helps?

Cheers for that info. I do wonder if LG may be trying to morph the M TV package into a package designed to offer the best of both freeview and Freesat?

I think that the best of these two platforms, combined with a TiVo, may tempt existing Freeview and Freesat viewers onto the cable platform.

Of course, once on it, it is much, much easier to upsell.
