The repeats have helped me catch up with some great shows from the very start. If and when the channel launches on Virgin Media, those new to the channel will find the repeats incredibly useful. If it wasn't for the repeats I'd have never gotten into shows like The Borgias, Boardwalk Empire and Blue Bloods. Admittedly the channel isn't terribly awash with brand new episodes of shows each and every night, but I do take in about 3 or 4 hours worth of shows from the channel each week. It doesn't sound like much but I only watch TV a few hours per day. |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 4.
Not really news, I suppose, but was on the phone to VM to downgrade services and was told that due to ESPN going, they are hoping to get BT Sports onto TV XL, but don't know what's happening. No intention to stop me changing, just an off the cuff remark.

Chad, (sorry, not fully sure how to add another quote in) I did not mean to include the repeats of G.O.T etc in my 95%. I agree fully that these repeats will be useful to new subscribers and eventually/possibly VM subscribers (dependent upon your outlook.) However, many Sky viewers will see these shows as reruns now (and in their eyes, it may push the percentage higher than 95%), and when new Sky and VM subscribers have caught up with these shows, they will become part of the many reruns shown on Sky Atlantic.:( |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 4.
Right so if this channel with loads of first run shows is a pile of repeats to you, then what payTV do you watch? Alibi and Comedy Central must be lucky to have 3 hours a week of new programming.
|
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 4.
Indeed, I don't see how that comment doesn't apply to the vast majority of pay tv channels. Only the mainstream terrestrial channels (big 5 + E4) ever seem to have anything vaguely new on it. Atlantic is much better than its peers in a fair comparison.
Sounds like sour grapes (yet again) from some. Much like the laughable "WELL I NEVER WANTED BT SPORTS ANYWAY" comments, makes the posters look like petulant children. |

However those who do, should at least be given the choice. We obviously don't know what the sticking points in the talks are, but if Virgin are holding out for including in the XL package for a fixed price, then I don't think this is in customers' interests if it ends up denying it altogether. It would surely be quite straightforward for VM to market BT Sport in effectively the same way as Sky Sports, as a stand alone package and taking a small handling fee for collecting subs and carrying the transmission. VM have admitted they make little or nothing from carrying Sky Sports, they do so as a service to customers and because it boosts the overall attractiveness of the service. |

If the choice were that or not getting it all, what would you prefer? As a customer you at least then have free choice between all three platforms, and can do the sums according to what meets your needs. Not having any particular interest in PL football, I don't see subsidising this out of XL subs beyond the level of ESPN as being any sort of priority when there are still other things missing from the package. If BT started showing other sports we were interested in, maybe we might choose to pay. It is important for the VM platform that customers have as full as possible a choice of content - that doesn't mean everybody has to subsidise providing premium content 'free', however slick a marketing ploy this might seem to be. |

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 4.
Sorry, was not meaning to be antagonistic, just trying to a) inject some humour (poor judgement) and then b) just trying to answer another post. I know many people do want Sky Atlantic. I personally do not think it is worth all the hype. Yes they many new shows, but it does not mean all of them are good. A lot of my friends do not watch many of them now.
Yes, all channels show copious repeats with which I have no problem, I just think for all the hype the channel channel gets, it should have less repeats and more original content than it does. These are just my views on the channel. Jameseh, Comedy Central and Alibi, are specialist channels aimed at people who like crime shows or non-stop comedy, as you will be aware. They do show new content on a regular basis too, probably not as many hours as Sky Atlantic granted, but these are specialist channels and will only show a certain type of show. I have said many times before that I do not care for Sky Atlantic and would prefer any money spent to go elsewhere (a few HD variants would please me more.) I will happy for those that want it, if VM ever get it though. I am sorry if these views have offended or continue to offend anyone. Mod's given my stance on Young_Timbo, if people feel I have stepped over the line, please feel free to take retrospective action. |
Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 4.
I don't see it happening myself but that's just my opinion , the whole BT Sport deal is BT want people back on their network with phone and BB/fibre that way when there house is in order with their tv product they can begin to upsell products and strengthen their triple play offering.
There TV offering will continue to grow with more Internet TV channels to be added. http://recombu.com/digital/news/bt-a...ls_M11973.html |

For some unknown reason Sky have also chosen to put some US Network shows on Atlantic, which really belong on Sky One or Living, but that doesn't detract from the original premise of the type of specialised content Atlantic was set up for. One of the reasons that Atlantic is sought by many on VM is that Atlantic is the only place to get these US cable shows. Netflix and Lovefilm will often get the US network shows eventually, but Atlantic is the only place that I am aware of to get HBO shows. And before anyone says Blinkbox, that is way too expensive in my view. Quote:
