It's always worth a try and if at first you don't succeed call again tomorrow and ask again......

I have been with cable for over 15 years so that's the card I used

Long term customer politely asking for a superhub v2 = result :D

You know what you've done? LOL.

The floodgates are open in both directions; peops giving it a try and peops then coming back to report no joy! I love it.

Have to agree with you. Wasted a number of days waiting for them to deliver VM hardware which never turned up. On one of them they tried to trace where it was, only to come back to say that the driver had decided to finish for the day and that my package was still in the van that was heading back to the depot!

Re: superhub 2

already tried that but they said that its not giving the correct speed and keeps dropping off. do you have any suggestions. speed test says I get 86mps I should be getting 120mps. they said that there might be a problem with some of the cables but I have already told them that all of the cables have only just been replaced with brand new ones. Virgin Media Call Centre took over my computer and they couldn't find the fault. so that I why they are sending an engineer out to me.

Try with a wired connection, should have been given a couple of network cables in the box. Wired connections are much better than wireless overall.

BTW, the field engineers (with one exception) will know very little about the SH2 and its behaviours. The triallists on the forum, who've had it some 7 weeks now, will know and eagerly await the feedback!

I'm an IT Network Tech so very techie anyway so won't take me many mins to set it up myself and should be able to import my existing SH1 config if the format is still the same. I assume it would work as the config pages are pretty much just the same.

I'm happy to give my experiences after it's installed :)

All it took was a phone call for self install, so i am surprised they're not doing what they did for the trialists.

That's an interesting point. I haven't read every thread on the VM Trial Forum, but I don't recall anything about loading a SH1 config into a SH2. You news will likely be a first.

It will likely look terrible but don't be put off by it as it seems to not affect real world performance.

I know Seph is one of a kind ;). During the trial I think I lasted in router mode a matter of hours before going modem. The main reason being the 5GHz wireless only seems to work for me on factory settings. Having just started in router mode again and tweaked a few of the settings it's taken a good 30 mins for my laptop to see the 5GHz network. Still I'll live with it for a few days, then turn off wireless for a days, then probably go back to modem mode.

Cheers

Grim

Yeah, it was talked about plenty during the trial. This is a tweaked setup, when I first got the SH2 in the early days of the trial it was like this:

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/s...17-04-2013.png

It's mostly down to how you have your wifi settings configured and is mainly cosmetic.

Well I received my SH2 earlier today so easy to set up and get running too

did a few tests on old sh1 before installing pingtest.net speedtest.net etc noted results then switched to sh2

pingtest.net SH1 Ping 25ms Jitter 13ms packetloss 0% Line Quality B

Pingtest.net SH2 Ping 13ms Jitter 2ms packetloss 0% Line Quality A

Speedtest.net SH1 82.36Mb/s ping 21ms Upload 7.72Mb/s

Speedtest.net SH1 103.66Mb/s ping 6ms Upload 9.85Mb/s

So far so good lets see how it performs over the next few days

My latency is higher on the SH2 compared to the SH1, My Mini-Slot Size has changed from 128 to 4 on my upstream. after looking around on the virginmedia forums someone spoke to an engineer about it and they said: "the reason the pings were high was due to the mini slot size being 4 and said soon enough a firmware update should sort this". knew i shouldn't have changed something that wasn't broken.

Phoned VM earlier to attempt to get a Super Hub 2 without the install charge.
(Stated that the SuperHub One Wi-Fi within the property is not great and range is lacking.)

Person on the phone said i should really get a Engineer out to look at the problems with the Superhub One and would get an Engineer out as per the reps advice.

So in the end i left without the sole reason to actually phone them and i would imagine the engineer will not be able to do much.

Basically, the "engineer" was talking utter gollox.

The SH1 which uses the Broadcomm DOCSIS chipset reports the upstream minislot size as the number of symbols per minislot. At 16QAM, that's 4 bits per symbol so Minislot size of 128 = 64 Bytes.

The Puma 5 DOCSIS chipset (which was also used in the old VMNG300) reports the Minislot size as the number of upstream clock ticks each 6.25 Useconds wide.

So into a Minislot of 4 ticks is packed 64 Bytes.

Does that make sense?

Is there a consensus yet: the SH2 has lower or higher latency than SH1 (both in modem mode)?

Engineers don't touch wireless (unless something has changed, which I doubt). I would fully expect the engineer to come out, take one look at the superhub and say it's working fine, then leave.

I meant to get this 3 months ago because I was in the trail. But VM didn't sent me one. So have to ring after 3 months to get it.
Never want to be a beta tester again. What's the point joining the trial if the customers not in the trail gets the super hub before the beta tester?
People in the trail should be the first people to see the super hub 2 for the customers not in the trail.

Well 24hrs on and my SH2 seems rock solid and a huge improvement over my 2+ year old SH1.

Pings are low jitter is barely existent speeds are almost maxing out during peak and off peak times.

Have yet to try modem mode simply because I wanted to test the 5Ghz wifi out xD

Unacceptable though that was (failure to deliver SH2), at least you have access to the trial forum where a lot of stuff gets discussed (in confidence).

If you thnk it's rock solid, my test firmware is even more solid! Strabge that I should say that - I felt it was solid on the firmware you had, but jitter was annoying in router mode. In modem mode, of course no problem.

Now, with current firmware that will be turned into a release soon (don't ask me when) - maybe one more test version to go - there is no jitter in router mode on my system.

So it gets better from very good, IMO. Nobody who knows me on these forums ever thought I'd have a good word to say about a Superhub!

Yes, the one in use flashes. If both in use they both flash

Unacceptable though that was (failure to deliver SH2), at least you have access to the trial forum where a lot of stuff gets discussed (in confidence).

I have been a lurker on these forums for sometime and I have also seen some of your posts over on the vm community forums, always intuitive and straight to the point which is what people appreciate xD

Haven't used a superhub in router mode for nearly 2 years however at this present time I am tempted to leave this sh2 in router mode as I am not sure connection quality could improve by switching it to modem mode and reconnecting my samknows trial netgear router....

Maybe I will give it a try run in the near future but I don't want to risk breaking something that's not currently broken xD

My current version is
Boot Code Version PSPU-Boot 1.0.16.22
Software Version V1.01.19

Can't wait for the update if it makes it even better xD

Thanks for those nice words.

As I said, unless you hit one of the barely noticeable things that needed fixing in 1.01.19, you won't notuice the difference on later versions. But I'm not gonna mention them because I'm curious to see what the peops discover.

As for modem mode, I will go back to it after the trial period ends. But as the previous SH1 router mode enemy, I'm quite happy that I'm running the SH2 in router mode at this time.

As per my previous post, the Engineer arrived changed over the SuperHub One to another SuperHub One and stated that VM are aware of the Wireless issues and that a new SuperHub is currently out and that i should provide VM with pressure to allow an exchange, which should solve the Wireless issues.

He watched us using a laptop, connect to the Hub (The Laptop was within another room and it was always dropping connection, but the Desktop computer in the house, which is directly connected to the modem/router did not have any such issues. He did mention that it could possibly be the Wireless card within the laptop, but he was not convinced that was the issue.

He seemed in quite a hurry to get onto other jobs.(Which i guess is understandable.)

My door buzzer is supposed to be fixed next week after a snotty email, as soon as it's fixed I shall try the retentions route for a SH2 now the manned install is cancelled. Bit annoying really but hey ho.

we have no wifi diagnostics, pointless sending him out

You can do that yourself with your own equipment, pointless sending a tech out, what happens the week after when the routers move channels

I agree there, mines set to Automatic as well but usually have no problems apart from the usual SH1 weak signal in the bedroom a short distance away in my smallish flat.

You really need the SH2 or your own router to get a better signal. :)

i wish mine looked like that but my maximum, levels off at around 40 strangely, however i don't believe the TBB is accurate with the SH2.

How could it not be? Dont be brain washed by statements from VM

SnoopZ 07-06-2013 21:57

Re: superhub 2

Because i don't think my ping tests or speed tests reflect what i am seeing on my TBB graph.

Maybe i am wrong but if my SH1 looked like my graph of the SH2 my connection would be terrible and i have a pretty good SH1 graph.

Without going into specifics (because of the trial rules & I don't quite understand it), there are some issues with TBB and SH2 in router mode. However, I do think there's a problem as some trialists on 'moded' firmware no longer have issues.

Cheers

Have the moded firmware cleared up the messy TBB graphs? i didn't think it had.

So are you saying the SH2 responds to pings from TBB at lower priority, or that TBB send SH2 pings at low priority?

SnoopZ 07-06-2013 22:04

Re: superhub 2

I really don't know as i am not that clued up on all this but you can see from my 2 graphs that something is happening with the SH2 and not on my SH1 and it doesn't seem to affect the connection at all. :)

I also have far less jitter with the SH2 and you wouldn't think it looking at my graph.

The hard evidence shows otherwise ;)
