Doubt the Red Button will be in HD i do not think sky have any HD Red Button content ! although the way west indies are playing at the moment the match may not even last until the Red Button.

I presume that we will only be able to select something to view on Red button (eg match choice) but we won't be able to record your choice of match as you can on Sky? Would that be true?

I guess it's a case of wait and see.

You are right you can record match choice games on Sky so maybe you will be able to on VM too.

Jameseh 27-04-2011 23:26

Re: sky sports red button

It'll either play back like any VoD content or just 'a stream' like BBC Red Button so its unlikely you can record.

Not that many games left and they seem to be more spread out now. I'm sure they'll just be on the regular channels although perhaps not in HD if you sub to it.

I can't see why anything from the UCL will be on red button until next season now as there is only the second leg of the semi's and the final left.

The Tuesday game will be on Sky and Wednesday on ITV1/STV/UTV so no real need for it.

I can only comment on how it is implemented on Sky. The first red button service tomorrow will be available on SSP2 from 1930 for the WI v Pakistan ODI (that is if the match lasts until then!)

The red button is always available on Sky but most of the time it is just for the Sky Text service. When there is an actual interactive service available it tells you on screen what is 'hiding' behing the channel, for example 'match choice'.

Maybe VM will just deliver a holding screen if content isn't available or the red button option may only work when there is additional content available.

You'll soon find out as there's not long to wait now (hopefully!)

The wait is nearly over though and if you are like me when I got it you will really realise what we have been missing all these years.

OK, some of the red button stuff isn't that good (especially PQ) but I used to get very frustrated knowing there was content available that we couldn't watch, especially in todays circumstance where for example you could be really enjoying the ODI and then it gets hidden behind the red button.

Does anyone have any proof that they can post which shows, 100% that the red button will be launching tonight? I'm still very dubious seeing that it's now 12:30pm and Virgin haven't made any kind of press release regarding it's launch. Is the launch of the red button tonight still purely based on rumor and speculation?

Or maybe they don't want to affect TIVO sales when customers find out how fundamentally flawed the TIVO is at current with its lack of Sky sports red button , BBC interactive and no PPV sport function.

If you have been offered an additional free V+ it is actually not too much of a problem. It will be a problem signing up new customers (if they don't also get that offer) but then that hopefully gives them some impetus to sort this out sooner rather than later.

How advanced the product has little to do with it. Many products start out basic and have extras added later, the ps3 for instance. Another example is Sky's anytime + service where the majority couldn't access it all. i don't know if that's changed. So getting free multi room worth £7.00 or so is a pretty good compensation.

Is that a joke? You have posted over and over why the Tivo isn't worth it after saying you were desperate to get one before you changed tv supplier. Should I accuse you of sour grapes. I am getting a Tivo fitted next week and have been offered a free V+. I think I am pretty qualified to say whether I think that is compensation for lack of red button (for me anyway).

No it's not accuse me of what you want :D I have posted saying it's not worth it currently. Have I ever stated I would never get one ? Hope the PQ is ok for you ;)

To be fair VM did state the football would be available for the 2011/2012 season.

Is there a link to that, fella? :)

If you are prepared to accept the limitations in certain areas of the TiVo box at present and teething problems then go for it.
Personally, I have never brought into brand new Tech as I like things to do what they are supposed to and it drives me potty if they do not. I will wait until all the currant issues are sorted and then I shall re-evaluate TiVo.

We’re giving you more control with Sky Sports red button.

Soon it will be even easier to catch your team on telly, thanks to the Sky Sports red button.

If they’re not showing on the main channel, all you need to do is press the red button on your remote control, and Bob’s your uncle, you can scroll through all the games and select your side. It’ll work for all 2011-2012 Barclays Premier League matches, plus any UEFA Champions League match, ATP tennis, US Open, Heineken Cup and more. Plus, your clever red button unlocks loads of news and stats, too. And an extra bonus, from late spring you can use it to track down smaller sports events, games or highlights, too. Just keep an eye out for the red button appearing on your Sky Sports premium channels. Nice one!

Thanks mate... hmmm... wonder if that actually does mean match choice or only the ability to use the red button on the match you're watching... it's not clear to me.

See on the schedule were it says Super Rugby and I know this uses the red button, in fact look for the * at the side and as you can see its quite frequently used.

I remember watching Canadian ice hockey whilst i was based in Alberta. The Calgary flames were the team we followed and to such exotic places as "moose jaw" and Medicine Hat. Can you imagine a footballer trying to get into one of those punch ups

I have family in different parts of Canada, they are mad for it out there, it dominates like football does here. There are leagues everywhere, my cousin still plays at 48, he must be a glutton for punishment:D
