Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

You may remember a while back that my Apple Time Capsule router died, out of warranty..

Well, on Monday, Apple issued a product recall for routers within that serial number range, and refusing to power up.

So, I just need to get down to an Apple store, and hopefully should walk out with a new one (if not a recon one).

They will even attempt to recover the data and copy it to the replacement.

:D

Good to hear, but I hope William is encouraging you to go see your GP, it sounds like an inner ear problem which should be investigated, imo :)

belated happy birthday to your No.1 son, being 2, Fingy :)

My happy thought is a bit geeky in that I finally bought a 2.5" external hard disk - 500GB of storage that can just be plugged into an usb port with no power supply required.

- which means my WD media player can now benefit from many, many more files to play back - so far, keeping up with Warehouse 13 at US pace works brilliantly :)

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

Two happy thoughts.

1) Apple have confirmed my router is both broken (not that I expected it to suddenly work) and covered by their recall. They have offered to replace it, but have none in stock ATM..

2) You may remember a couple of years back, I posted that the guy who lives opposite liked to park outside anyone's house but his own (OK, he has a car and a van, but he also has a garage that could be cleared out, and space outside his own house). I also posted that while him doing that is inconvenient for me (I don't drive, but its nice to allow parking for visitors), our neighbours have a wheelchair bound grandson, so they *need* the space outside the house clear.

Well, they finally complained to the council, who have responded by putting a disabled parking bay outside their house. The guy opposite is not happy.

Just finished work, after 12 hours in the office.

Why is that a happy thought?

Because I was tidying everything up / handing over to others, because after 6:30pm tomorrow, I am on annual leave for three weeks.

And to make it better, for my last day at work tomorrow, I will be hosting a table at the Pakistan vs Australia cricket international at Headingley - what an excellent way to finish a very hard couple of months. :)

I've flown on Jet to a bus with wings, nothing to worry about.

Get an MP3 player with music or something to relax you, get a window seat and what as you take off, and look at thr view as to asend and desend.

If you like me and live near the airport, try and see if you recognise any locations you see.

Flying is one of the greatest things you will ever do in your lifetime, its so exilirating the first and second time I have done it. Its just like being on a bus when your in the air if you dont look out of the window, but I would cause I was afraid of heights till I did this and loved the views

Just relax and let it all wash over you and you will wonder what all the fuss was about, and a window seat is well recommended as the view will be fantastic.;)

Enjoy the break away and remember to turn over on the sunbed for an even burn, and I do mean burn with you being Scottish.:D

Mags you lucky thing, you will have a marvellous time. If you really are scared/claustrophobic PM me. Don't be scared, there really is nothing to flying, but if like me you are claustrophobic, I found it best to sit at the back. Not the best seats, but being able to see the full length (space) of the plane helped me a lot. Also, and I know this is illogical (but then that's what Phobias are) I was nearest the door........I know stupid isn't it. :dozey: Have a marvellous time!

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

Need to tell a little story here. As normal, yesterday, when I got up, I fed the pets some breakfast and let the cat out. Our cat normally goes out when the weather is warm and comes in in time for dinner.

Yesterday, he didn't. So, I checked all his little haunts I know of (he likes to hide under certain bushes and sleep under next door's car), but he wasn't there.

Now, he's been quite ill recently, and is having treatment for a breathing problem. As you can understand, I was rather worried that he was going to die. I was checking the gardens (front and back - he doesn't venture too far from those) regularly through the night, and got about 1 hours sleep.

So, this morning, rather knackered, I phoned my sister (she is staying with her boyfriend) to say that the cat had disappeared. Not sure what I hoped to achieve by doing that, but I thought she ought to know (he is her cat).

I've been worrying all day, and asked several of our neighbours if they'd seen him. A couple had, but on our shed (which is one of his normal sleeping areas).

This evening (about 20 minutes ago) he suddenly turned up looking rather disheveled (which is unusual, he is normally a very clean cat), sitting on the doorstep, looking lost but otherwise unharmed (as far as I can see). Just phoned my sister to let her know. She was ecstatic.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

Those of you who are friends on FB may have noticed that I've taken up running this year, with a view to doing a 10K at some point in the autumn. Unfortunately, the various aches, pains, strains and generally unfit have meant that I haven't been able to get past 4 miles for months - today, back on the treadmill, I've just done my first 10k in 54:38. How chuffed?

The end result is happy but not the story.

My Brother In-laws, Nephew(6) in November last year broke his arm, which was fixed.

In about March he was riding his bike, and turned to sharply and broke the arm for the 2nd time, again it was fixed by a metal rod.

On Monday, he broke it for the 3rd time, bending the metal rod in the process, his mother heard the scream from a distance away.

Well today we's waiting for the cast to on, and has been banned from any physical activity/sports for at leat a year.

Bah, it needs to be at least a 3 ;) Congrats though, if you can knock that out on a treadmill a 'proper' 10K will be very doable.

Not bad. Training for the Glasgow 1/2 in a month so doing 9 and 10 mile long runs once a week. Once that's out the way it'll be upped to 15 mile long runs till about Xmas time as well as the rest of the training :)

The turn of the year is when the proper pain starts. Aiming for 3 1/2 hours this time so it's a LOT of training.

Glad to hear that you're on the mend Jo. Do you know what kind of virus it was or is it a mystery?

Not a virus as such just my immune system kicking in yet again when it wasn't needed. It destroys things that are not a danger to me, normally my red blood cells, but this time it decided it didn't like my digestive system. Still at least I seem to have got away with not having to start taking steroids again so I am a happy, but very weak for the time being, bunny. :)

Very good move. Do you have a unibody one or the older type with the light-up keys?

That's ok then, there is a common problem with the previous model where the plastic trim above the dvd drive warps and creates a gap between the 2 sections of the lower body to varying degrees often causing difficulty in closing the lid/screen. Mine did this but not to a great extent, still annoying though bearing in mind how much they cost. Steve Jobs doesn't seem to give a toss about quality control so always a good idea to take out Apple care if you're willing to take the risk on Apple products these days.

Result, I just had a phone call, from a manager of a job agency, about a temp job for a local company minimum wage and crap hours (6am to 2pm or 2pm to 10pm).

He made a comment about the minimum salary and I said that its a jobs, and he was impressed as some people with my skills would turn it down.

While on the phone, he said that the company has a supervisor role going so you never know, the only thing against me is that I've not been in a paid supervisor role.
